For people in search of an introduction to the Fediverse, I love @nprofile…qpfm 's "landing post for people curious about the Fediverse"
Ofc with great video's by @nprofile…zlvh and @nprofile…t6jz with practical tips and a good framing of "tech is political"
https://mishathings.org/posts/fediverse-landing-page/
Possibly you could add the POSSE strategy, "publish on your own site, syndicate elsewhere", which is relevant for organisations willing to have some control of their communications.
Practical ways to get started, if you're new on the Fedi, also include Starterpacks, e.g. by @nprofile…a92v: https://fedidevs.com/starter-packs/

The EU's Blocking Statute should protect EU citizens for lawful operation when "third countries" - such as the US - apply sanctions to them.
Example 1: ICC judges being sanctioned by the Trump regime. They cannot be served by US companies (most dominant digital platforms + all credit cards), but even EU companies feel threatened by the US administration to service them. The #BlockingStatute would sanction EU companies when they'd comply with such US interventions.
Example 2: when Trump and his vassals listed the A/I communications infrastructure as terrorist, EU banks start having problems to maintain their bank account. In this case, @nprofile…728u - of which I'm a co-owning member - considers cancelling their account in order to avoid jeopardising my and other 130k members' bank accounts, when threatened by the US.
In such cases the Blocking Statute should (if applied) force operators to not comply with 3rd country legislation, in order to protect EU citizens

What's going on at the Wiki Media Foundation, is really worrying.
Important layoffs, are they the playbook of corporates now at the top of the foundation?
This could be possibly one of their worst moves. It's a fragile balance between love work (voluntary labour) and livelihood work (waged labour). And our cherished federation, the flagship of digital commons, really depends on the goodwill of the people making small donations. That income might suffer as a result. Probably income due to deals with AI corps will bring in a growing share. But is that the future we want?
I want to learn more about this. Here's some materials:

Today @nprofile…47jv delighted our day with another of his amazing cartoons, depicting AI slop packaged in a hamburger chain this time.
The dirty brown stuff these robots put in the hamburgers makes me think of another such metaphor: @nprofile…ugpy's #Enshittification :-)
Well, I've never been a fan of hamburger chains, and with these images in mind, it'll be nearly impossible to get me to eat that shit.

Our democracies are under attack by authoritarian tech, tech monopolies, Big Tech corporations that extract enormous amounts of value from the users, manipulate them and is "enshittified" as @nprofile…ugpy reminds us.
Our answer is: Democratic Tech -but hey, you ask what's that exactly?
Here's a long article tracking the origins of the term, https://freeknowledge.eu/democratic-technology-building-alternatives-to-techno-auhtoritarianism
TLDR:
Of the different connotations of "democratic tech" we understand it as commons, where a community takes care for the tech they use; it is tech that is under their ownership or control, instead of the tech (and its distant owners) taking control over the community. So we go beyond mere "civic tech" or "democratising access to tech".
I think this is pertinent in this time when our democracies are under attack by so called "authoritarian tech".

Thanks :-)

Maar EuroSky verbaast me wel een beetje. Na alles wat we weten over Bluesky.

Radiologists would massively loose their jobs through AI, say the AI evangelists. But reality is quite different. This article by Dutch media @nprofile…p024 follows the live of a radiologist who actively uses various medical AI tools. The tools are helpful as double check, but don't reduce the workload, indeed add to it.
Conclusion: stop the AI fanatics with their discourse of AI unemployment.

Really happy that @nprofile…kz02 reached its highest funding goal. Such an important project for the #Fediverse, adding several relevant improvements to video hosting, watching and streaming.
Especially in this age of toxic tech, like Instagram, TikTok and Youtube, designed for addiction, absorbing people's time, mind and killing concentration.
No to #toxicTech, let's mobilise more people to connect to the community networks, designed for human wellbeing, for life.

#DigitalSovereignty is at the top of the political agenda, finally, that's good. But strange things (or not so much) are happening.
Like this one: The Luxembourg gov is moving to Google Distributed Cloud, see https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/luxembourg-govt-launches-sovereign-cloud/ and it is framed as "sovereign".
The Dutch minister for Digital Affairs (outgoing) is so inspired and might follow.
But wait a minute: a managed cloud service by Google, how much sovereignty does that give to you?
Seems more like a case of #SovereigntyWashing

Goede argumenten; wel belangrijk die Europese tech als repliceerbare opensource op te zetten. Zie #EuroStack Het heeft immers weinig zin Europese tech oligopolies op te bouwen.
