I contributed my first commit to Nixpkgs! In my own, stumbling, baby deer way. But hey, you learn from your mistakes! Funnily enough I'm pretty sure it was those mistakes that got that second attempt way more attention than the first. https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/539257

My first, real open source contribution https://github.com/nix-community/home-manager/commit/a4ee5403cafbc708ad0f0d585965f1931ec340a8 It involved a crash course in Bash arrays; I have never used them before.
I helped! 😄

Yesterday I learned that channel URLs must point to directories containing nixexprs.tar.gz files. I've been using random GitHub archive URLs when I should have been manipulating NIX_PATH directly instead.
