sometimes I think that photos are maybe a way of documenting or capturing our feelings about objects, people, spaces etc we encounter daily. Feelings are transitory but these images we take help us to go back to the way we felt at the time...maybe, I don't know.

yeah, a writer i think, should ideally stand 'outside', be the neutral 'observer' unless you use a 1st person narrator, and are simultaneously a character in the story...

I'm on the roll here haha, But isn't compassion (if not a religious 'duty') a function of one's relative privilege, so it is easier to forgive, if we are in a safe, neutral personal situation..but what if we are directly affected by the atrocity, what if it's a close relative who lost their life, or if we are ourselves fighting for our life and we just cannot afford to feel any empathy for someone who is about to harm us?

also, what gives anyone the 'right' to forgive an atrocity, aren't we just playing 'god' in the absence of god?

I mean, is it even possible/ethical/'normal' for a 'good person' to feel compassion for someone like that?

wow, ok. I d like to read this, I am writing something currently, something that will eventually lead me to this exact same situation, ie compassion for a killer. And since it's based on something I experienced in reality, I am not at all sure how I'm going to approach it.

I was just trying to imagine a situation, when one actually gets to meet Trump, like in that song "What if Trump was one of us...just a stranger on a bus"..What would one say to him, in a hypothetical scenario, where you actually gain access to him, without bodyguards, without a fear of any repression, just meeting him face to face..would one try to be nice, polite, ignore him? Or just try to argue with him, which would probably be the worst thing to do

I just deleted a post where I actually said he 'played it well'. Hmm well, he is a player ...but I still think he chose the right asshole to target..one bastard attacking another, at least noone can say 'poor Maduro'

I'm glad there are still the critical mass rides being organized, we took part in several with my husband but that was years ago...

@npub1san…jgxu hi, what do you think of the Venezuela story? Who is the 'good guy' here? Or are they all bad ? It's obvious that Trump just wants the oil and uses the drug cartel charges as an excuse. He is a lot like Putin with the Ukraine invasion.

thanks:), it was not a bad time, it made me realize that it's possible to keep yourself comfortable even at the most adverse moments. I was actually in a position to get away from there, but I was curious I guess, motivated to see how I'd cope in the situation.

wow, in 2022, I was alone in a summer cabin without heating or insulation and lasted till mid November. No other bodies to keep warm with (!!) , because that happened after a traumatic breakup. So to survive, I insulated myself in what I called my 'survival room' - the bathroom (only space with a door that could be closed), I had a small electric heater (on lowest setting) and insulated the room with blankets, towels and pillows. I managed to make it warm and cozy while the rest of the shalet was barely above 0 Celsius. I did my online work inside my 'safe room' and all my daily activities. At night, I'd carry the heater upstairs and heat up the sleeping space first, then turn off the heat and sleep under a pile of duvets. The lowest outside temp was around minus 3 Celsius at night.

I just had a quick look at another piece you wrote on Medium, that mentions protests in Czech Republic and Poland, that were successful in bringing down their respective regimes. I think that in that transformation the main driver had been the promise of a betterment of material conditions. The Golden Dream of capitalism was beckoning just around the corner. No wonder the protesters succeeded. In our present situation its the opposite, we are trying to persuade citizen to abandon capitalism, ie a condition of relative material wellbeing and social security and plunge into the yet unknown condition of self governance and autonomy.

no, I think your manifesto is probably the best anyone could have ever written. What we need is action. And this is a real problem, how to go about it. Small resistance groups get easily overpowered. Even large demos. But there are semi independent anarchist communities and even though they have to still cooperate with the capitalist economy to survive, this is the way to go. Joining these communities and acting together. It feels much more effective than just protesting, although the protests are also beneficial as they attract the attention of the public.

Tree planting vs tree felling 😢, approx mins ago, I went on a walk through a forest nearby, where I hoped against all odds, to see the deer again. They hide in this deepest and most overgrown part of the forest which is mostly spared from logging. But today, I heard the loggers from a distance, the grrr of the chainsaws and next I saw the tree fall. And then another one. At nearly the same spot where I saw a beautiful deer with huge antlers exactly 3 years ago. I understand the commercial need for firewood, but where are the deer supposed to go?? Maybe it is time to say 'basta' to the bastards and take the 'means of production' away from them. Whatever it takes.

I was composing a very long post on this topic and I think I got 'timed out' (???), so here's just the gist of it:): if life is indeed the only god, we must modify the 'old' idea that accompanies most established religions, ie that god will always take care of us, no matter what. If god=life, WE are the ones who have to take care of it, and only then 'it' will 'take care' of us. Example: a tree we plant and look after, will benefit us in the long run.

"Because that which is holy and sacred is not much our individual lives, but life itself, that just can’t be stopped, and in order to be a living and healthy part of it, and to most peacefully live our individual lives in it, we still have to understand that it is the only “god”, and we have so much more to learn from and about it." I like this part a lot:)
