I made a new canonical home for my #mooel #lambdaMOO #emacs #slime #commonLisp #VR demons living in slime repls adventure by stitching those five short snippets together. My personal kitten is just so much better than medium.
https://screwlisp.small-web.org/current/mooing/five-notes-about-mooing-in-emacs-with-common-lisp/#codes
Admittedly, instead of being short and snippety, put together I suppose there is quite a bit of stuff there. Also my homepage does not have a new way of linking to it yet and I did not insert the pictures or many links. Three steps forward, etc.

2026-10-21 17:19:56 UTC

Just a reminder that we are back to having the usual shows and yesterday's was great featuring Jeff Shrager, Kent Pitman, Ramin Honary and I on air and everyone in the MOO VR. #lisp #3lisp #retrocomputing #climate
#peertube link in the show toot:

2026-10-20 18:20:26 UTC

Okay so the way today's #lispyGopherClimate is going to be is that I will be speaking with Jeff Shrager
( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=Jeff+Shrager&ns0=1 )
and Kent Pitman
and Ramin Honary
on the early pre-history of lisp, Eliza, and programming-gofais leading to e.g. Kent's involvement with The Programmer's Apprentice at MIT in the 80s.
Live is going to #peertube:
https://toobnix.org/w/gXLXQqxf5MYg1NDF2Ua6oA
at 0UTC Wednesday (Tuesday night in the Americas) as usual, live chat is #lambdaMOO #VR as usual. #lisp and anonradio will rerun.

2026-10-19 16:06:50 UTC

#interlisp I found a #medium article this week about BBN lisp and Black of the Black Scholes equation (#mathematics .. #finance) / #lisp community.
Here is the author's reply about them not having previously realized the BBN lisp and Interlisp were connected: https://medium.com/@navnoorbawa/thanks-for-this-0e60997bc11b

2026-10-19 00:29:37 UTC

#medium I realise my articles are pretty samey recently.
Today, I made a lispm object in #lambdaMOO #VR which you attach to an inferior #lisp. Then
run lispm on (apply 'values (loop for x below 3 collect x))
well, look at the picture.
https://medium.com/@screwlisp/moo-vr-lispm-a653a04dc146
I have to debug *sending strings* of all things, but in my private VR pocket dimension I can arbitrarily control lisp from objects and objects with lisp (there is a demon player connection).

New #medium article - now driving #commonLisp from #LambdaMOO and driving #LambdaMOO from #commonLisp #mud #lisp #emacs
https://medium.com/@screwlisp/integrating-moo-mud-vr-emacs-slime-common-lisp-4aefd556452b
At the moment I am only ranking arbitrary lisp evaluation for PersonalMOO use ! I have to think about MOO permissions and what I can reasonably say we could use on lambda.moo.mud.org (if you have a hint, I'm all ears).
https://gamerplus.org/system/media_attachments/files/117/453/374/792/635/775/original/98e9b29a20e6c5d3.png

2026-10-14 17:11:58 UTC

@nprofile…3n74 a topic I'm internally wrestling with since I set up that MOO-output-lines-triggering-clim-commands thing, is that this is a pretty crazy paradigm of computing for me. I have read a thing or two about it, but did you have any prognostications? #lambdaMOO #lisp

2026-10-14 16:07:39 UTC

#lispyGopherClimate Sorry everyone, I was mistakenly in the wrong city when it was show-time yesterday. Being in different countries is hard.

https://medium.com/@screwlisp/vr-and-ui-with-local-lambdamoo-and-lisp-clim-043fc9463ee3
#medium #article prose ; but I expand on my moo.el + #commonLisp slime #emacs #lambdaMOO #mud #VR last article to show my locally running MOO dynamically updating my graphical #McCLIM application-frame.
I said a bunch of words cynically geared at getting accepted to a #UX publication.
Preeeetty happy with it.

2026-10-11 06:39:10 UTC

Sharpsign haphazard and slapdash it may be, but I think this is one of the more important useage guides I've written:
https://medium.com/@screwlisp/beginning004-the-cattle-are-lisping-lambdamoo-moo-el-vr-puppets-with-common-lisp-emacs-slime-d5eb369cf3b0
I'm not sure why I found it so hard to exhibit.
a. Start a local copy of the world's longest running #virtualReality #lambdaMOO .
b. Connect to it in #emacs #mud moo.el mode.
c. Start slime, and hook moo output to be sent to slime.
d. Use method qualification advice to do things with that.

@nprofile…mx8a Yeah, it is literally that the advertising people (as documented ind Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide) got a computer that was so good at making manipulative advertisements that now when we see or hear something that sounds legitimate and attractive, heuristically the right thing to do is to start running in the opposite direction.
The remaining heuristic being something like, is the project already at least five years old at this point. - Deeply unfairly.

I had an idea for a few projects I will look into contributing to org. Particularly, my usual common lisp compiler is lisp-as-a-C-or-C++-library which would benefit from explicitly different treatment to most lisp compilers, and explicit support for the common lisp interface manager.
Admittedly, both my ideas are just @nprofile…mx8a s' keynote and regular European lisp symposium talks.

Well, mea culpa.
@nprofile…l2h8 is there an area of orgmode development you would like to talk about particularly, in the spirit of theming questions?
Like I mentioned before, I really like organizing heterogeneous code as org-files and org-lob-ingesting them. Though I am not sure where the action is at at org's development right now, which is also a question I guess.

@nprofile…a4ar I'm quite well-informed I think, though I have not heard of Kona. Is it related to the small-language-model formal proof deep learning?
My contrasting analogy was accepting large language model generated program code and accepting formally [] correct code from small-time humans.
In particular I was working on integrating #+ACL2 into regular common lisp source recently.

You know how every business and government, up to and including linux now accept code contributions by evil robots on the somewhat mediocre condition that there must be a human available to take the blame for the robot's failings.
This would have sounded crazy ten years ago, back before 2018 I guess.
In another direction, a completely different crazy idea would be for medium sized softwares to take in formally proven first order logic by indie developers. Since we are open now.

Well, we come from tech background, right? And it is accepted wisdom that if the company's VC budget gets directed to marketing, that means the whole company has failed. But in the business world, the theory is that the invisible hand of the market makes the best things best advertised.

@nprofile…k3ke
E.g. one cited study was
Langer A et al., Technology in Society, 2025 [17]
surveying 37 children aged 6-10, finding children performed at or below chance, significantly below adults at detecting AI (who perform at chance) for generated pictures.
If children were good at detecting manipulative content, you would expect them to find Ronald McDonald telling them how many calories are in their locally sourced ground meat mixture sinister, wouldn't you?

2026-04-08 20:22:46 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…k3ke The article thinks that the reason is that AI generated content has been groomed to look heavily edited and overproduced, and overproduced content seems more professional (hypothetically they must have some professional editing software or something) to explain the general results of AI being ranked 'better' than human content.

2026-04-08 20:20:33 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…k3ke Yes, I agree. I think it is likely to say people on the Mastodon, and our ouevre especially might be the subpopulation "good at" recognizing AI, and also be the minority who are revulsed.
But in a meta-study of thousands of normal people - students, professionals, workaday, .. - the majority can't tell better than chance, but rank AI content as being better.
In particular, children on average were seen to be more likely to think AI content is human and attractive than human content.

2026-04-08 07:06:28 UTC

I lost the source toot, but I read https://arxiv.org/pdf/2604.03437 .
The gist is that in a review of multifarious studies on whether humans can tell ai content from humans', the gist is
- no better than a monkey (to use the snarxiv phrase) on social media posts, cybersecurity, medical reports, sports/fitness coaching, and student essays
- Expert examination like poetry or doctoral candidate screening reliably caught ai.
- Some people are good at it
- AI content is more attractive than humans'

If we were to move into Phase 3 or 4, there will be priority bands to manage how fuel is allocated.
The proposed bands are:
Band A: life-supporting services – uncapped supply
Band B: economically important services
Band C: essential services
Band D: other commercial customers
Band E: general retail sales to consumers.

@nprofile…v9wr It is small comfort that now, downstream of NZ govt's copilot summaries and copilot-centric business processes, no one in the government will ever be able to read and grok it.
Which is what I meant by the emergency ejector pointing into the helicopter blades.
The billions of dollars of ai adoption by the NZ and other governments, the whole corporate world - they burned the bridge behind them. Now we are on an island with a forest fire and no hope but... what, the singularity?

for one parochial example, NZ's contract with microsoft requiring basically everyone to use microsoft sharepoint is world famous (in new zealand).
It is well remarked to be impossible, obtuse and abstruse in every moment.
Well, since NZ became Microsoft Copiloted, no-one has to know how to use microsoft sharepoint, and every government employee has gladly stopped ever using it. That is their copilot's slob.
So the NZ govt does not know how to access its files on its own now.

2026-03-09 22:08:05 UTC

@nprofile…v9wr in my opinion the problem is much worse ( #butlerianJihad ) considering the life-spanning weight of research showing the sloppers - er, chatbot adopters - lose their previous personal abilities to write and program in a miserly-brain way.
It is not simply that the ai programs are going to turn out to suck, but that their adoption has destroyed e.g. NZ's government's and every company's former human capabilities to do those things. It is an emergency ejector into helicopter blades.

I guess that #links2 is better, but console-text-experience presumes some power user configuration that tor firefox does not ask for other than disabling the remaining default-active basically-viruses mozilla garbage.

@nprofile…ugpy great essay.
I had a thought at the end that like how the epstein class benefits from economic depressions by buying financially collapsed assets
so their personal wealth number goes up disproportionately more relative to how the whole world's aggregate wealth number goes down,
we would *want* the gdp to go down, but specifically so that real peoples' wealth numbers are disproportionately higher (and the epstein class wealth numbers are even more disproportionately lower).

This gives me two thoughts.
- Do chatbots make you anti-learn faster or slower? I.e. are you more likely to get something wrong when getting out of practice if you are also a chatbot user?
- Does using image generating bots make you worse at interpreting art over time?
