Olha não tenho 100% de certeza, mas acho que a Jadlog mentiu uma entrega no rastreio. Disseram que entregaram uma encomenda pra mim na quinta-feira e não houve entrega, entregaram na verdade hoje (segunda-feira).
Passei um tanto de nervoso, escrevi pra eles, eles responderam que eu tinha que ver com o remetente pra investigarem (a empresa que mandou não estava com atendimento disponível no final de semana...). Vou passar a evitar Jadlog sempre que possível.
O lado bom é que agora fiquei feliz que tenho #stickers #adesivos pra levar pra #PythonBrasil2026 :D

Finalmente entendi o que era uma misteriosa e enorme linha vermelha luminosa na paisagem noturna da cidade, vista da minha janela!
Nesta foto tosca abaixo não fica visível o alto contraste e intensidade da linha, que na realidade, me lembra um sabre de luz vermelho, muito marcado.
A linha distante e imensa que não parecia "encaixar" nas fachadas dos prédios próximos... mas descobri: É um guindaste de obra gigantesco!
Vi esses dias um guindaste com uma linha vermelha iluminada perto da Av. Paulista e aí que caiu a ficha.

I usually like #AntennaPod but recently it has been driving me crazy stopping the podcast every few minutes, sometimes even after less than a minute. At first I thought I must have had faulty headphones but today I'm listening without phones and it keeps pausing. I can't listen to a podcast and wash the dishes or do much of anything else like this.
Has anyone here had a similar issue?
PS: It most probably is not AntennaPod's fault, like some Android power saving setting...

I wish people from #Codeberg and #Zenodo would collaborate to get the same clever integration features that allow people to preserve #GitHub releases at Zenodo. I bet people from the scientific community would like that. Is it too much to wish some big sciency inftrastructure group would fund this? ;-)

This uses the newest #matplltlib integration added to #py5, that can convert `TextPath objects, actually I'm using the underlying capability of converting them to #shapely objects...
The matplotlib interface for text is very powerful (it can parse LaTeX) but I find it hard to use. I can't pick the typeface I want most of the time

Things that get on my nerves... I was testing an educational linter and the first time I ran it, it says: "don't use global variables"
I just can't use this in class, because, in my teaching context, students are making 10-line sketches with an animation loop and the most sensible thing to do is to use bloody global variables to keep state between frames.
When doing creative coding or small interactive sketches there are millions of reasons to use global variables, like keeping some simple global flags, or not recreating a mutable object that is expensive to build etc.

#Manjaro help needed! My laptop is old and I'm having trouble updating things because I inadvertently got some Nvidia drivers and I can't find a way of removing them... It seems the main issue comes from this https://archlinux.org/news/nvidia-590-driver-drops-pascal-support-main-packages-switch-to-open-kernel-modules/
And I'm unable to correctly replace the drivers :(

Folks! I have updated my modified #ThonnyIDE #portable for #Windows with #py5 pre-installed, updating py5 to v.0.10.6a, which uses jpype 1.5.2 and I think will solve the nasty non-ASCII path issues, yay!

Where Tim O'Reilly sees almost only opportunities, with optimism, I see many unwanted side effects, with pessimism. I think I'd prefer a more skeptical analysis.
Now the point I disagree most vehemently is when he speaks of AI tools in counterpoint to traditional programming tools: “one that can write poetry but struggles with basic arithmetic, another that calculates flawlessly but lacks creativity.”
No! LLMs can't write decent poetry and don't have creativity, it's basically a stochastic-based plagiarism machine!

There is no need for class wrappings, "singleton" or "borg" pattern implementations, when you are doing small #CreativeCoding interactive or animated sketches.
Sometimes, keeping global state is needed, and the best, simplest, most readable, teachable way to do it is with some global variables (module scope in Python).
These aren't the software engineering patterns you're looking for. #GlobalVariablesCanBeOK

A few years ago I have started converting the legacy Processing #Python mode examples to #py5 but I never finished it… would you like to help? I'm going to try out something, let's see what happens... next Saturday (2025-03-29) and possibly on some other Saturdays after that. I'm going to host an online space where I show something about Creative Coding with #Python and #py5. I'm calling it "Python Creative Coding Free Walking Tour". I'll also do some "py5 Office Hours", Q&A and on-boarding.
It will be free, and I'll accept donations, just like the free walking tour we have showing off nice spots of São Paulo for tourists. I hope it will be even better than that: as I studied architecture I find the tour guide's explanations a bit over the top and sometimes missing the point, but maybe mine will also be an over the top creative coding tour, who knows? you'll have to judge by yourselves.
The first, "walking tour" part will be from 11:00AM BRT (UCT -3) to 12:00 and then, the second, "office hours" part, will be from 12:15 to 13:00, when people will be able to ask me anything about py5 and I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge, it will also be an opportunity to get help setting up your tools/environment in order to take your first steps drawing with code.

@nprofile…zmuk it would ve just a convenient thing for teaching people that have never touched the command line interface, and are on different platforms. Maybe it is not a good idea, in not sure. But the "use case" would be, my students who have downloaded the portable Thonny could start a Júpiter notebooks based editor with a single click, and they could benefit from pre-installed libraries (or install more packages from the Thonny GUI). I'm always thinking about how to make "onboarding" ridiculously simple.

If I had the time and energy I would:
Make a #ThonnyIDE plug-in to launch #JupyterLab from the Thonny GUI interface (using Thonny's #Python #virtualenv;
Write some code to convert #geoDataFrames with a graphic attributes column into #py5 styled shapes;
Make a search interface to my daily sketch-a-day sketches and fix the RSS.

I like being able to quickly rename files so that the stem (the part without the suffix/extension) matches the parent folder's name. This is handy when working on my sketch-a-day project that has folders containing images with the ISO YYYY-MM-DDDD dates on their names just like the folders, I then get to use other scripts to post automatically the images. I love that on XFCE's Thunar I can select a file and call my renaming script from a contextual menu!

I was asked today how do I make the GIF animations from my #py5 sketches, and this is more or less what I replied, with a few code examples:
I use multiple techniques, depending on the day. Sometimes I trigger a call to save_frame('###.png') when a key is pressed (like in the 2025 new year sketch code, the ### gets replaced by frame_count automatically). With a few PNG files I then use this script: pngs_to_gif.py. There are other strategies you can adopt if you want to save a few frames from inside draw(), be careful to set some limits...
There is a py5 helper function you can import from py5tools called animated_gif() to export a GIF directly from your sketch example here.
And sometimes I use pypeek to record the screen, specially when I'm doing an interactive sketch.

Aproveitando o assunto (que não é a minha especialidade) @nprofile…0anz comentou que está rolando muito legal a "engine em C" #raylib (https://raylib.com) e, eu se tiver a chance, quero olhar o wrapper em Python #pyray (https://pypi.org/project/raylib/) - tem um outro pyray no PyPI mas esse é o mais ativo e sincronizado com as evoluções da raylib.
