I would be very grateful if people out there could stop saying that "every FOSS project is turning towards AI" just because some prominent examples are.
My projects are not. And for OctoPrint I'm actually doubling down on the "made by humans" point in the upcoming website relaunch and am also considering adopting CASA¹
But it's really exhausting to fight this shit at two fronts.

Today I'm happy that I switched everything I could to static sites over a decade ago.

I did not have vestibular neuritis and/or full blown BPPV on my bingo sheet, but here we are.
Spent yesterday lying on the couch, trying not to move my head at all, and quite nauseous. At least I can say that today is already better, I can move again without wanting to puke.
Probably a side effect of the cold I had recently. I'm somewhat optimistic I'll get it managed quickly thanks to a lot of experience with vertigo.
But JFC, this year is really something... 😕

Finally managed to get #bouldering again this morning. Way to sporadic for my taste currently, but with health and sleep issues, and other stuff getting in the way constantly, I'm proud of every time I manage to make it there...
But oof, lost a lot of strength. Expected, but still, yikes.

2026-10-13 15:49:15 UTC

Things I enjoy as a maintainer: implementing features, fixing bugs, collaborating with people, learning, improving
Things I hate but now constantly find myself doing: interacting with slop bots from others who refuse to talk with me themselves
Things newly added today: disputing slop security reports from slop CNAs who reply to mails with the output of slop bots. At least successfully. But F*CK this reality.

I just watched a very interesting Arte Tracks episode on why we all are reading less, why it is a good idea to change that again, and how some people approach this challenge with reading parties.

Makes me even more happy to read more again, now that I have my ereader always with me.

Long time OctoPrint contributor and friend Jacopo wrote about his experience contributing to OctoPrint & I just have to share this!
Really love his conclusion!
> Working on OctoPrint has shown me sides of open source I never could have imagined when I first got involved: how much invisible work goes into keeping a project alive, how much care an ecosystem of third-party plugins needs to stay healthy, and how much everything ultimately depends on the people behind it.

As I'm still fighting off the first cold of the season 🤧 I've decided to open the tea season, even if the temperature out there is still above 20 degrees most afternoons...
And what better mug to start with than this one 😊

Still making my way through Dungeon Crawler Carl (now on book 4) and I can't help but feel it and nod along whenever he goes "You will not break me"

2026-10-01 17:16:42 UTC

Fuck... I have no clue how I managed to do it, but it looks like I lost my CCCamp23 zipper hoodie somewhere between the car and my flat or maybe somewhere in my flat on/since Sunday. I've looked everywhere. I have no clue where it could be.
I really hope it'll show up at some point because I have some memories attached to it...

2026-10-01 09:53:33 UTC

Lovely prompts for #Cosytober2026 ... but given how this year has so far been for me, I'm going with my gut feeling and not doing a month long art challenge. Self care and all.
But I love the prompts, so maybe I'll do some single pixelart drawings here and there based on them, if I feel like it 😊

2026-09-30 18:51:05 UTC

Note to self: regardless of the venue, indoor or outdoor, next time I go to a gig, I should take my sunglasses with me, not just my earplugs.
JFC, those lights at the Spiritbox gig tonight are something else 😵‍💫 At least during the support acts.

2026-09-23 14:18:31 UTC

Late to the party, but after seeing recommendations left and right I started #reading Matt Dinniman's "Dungeon Crawler Carl" on Sunday. Now already a third into book 2 after finishing book 1 yesterday 😅
Good grief, that is a TON of fun! 😊
Previously I binged through the Threshold series by Peter Clines, "14", "The Fold", "Dead Moon" and "Terminus". That was a ton of fun too!

2026-09-09 09:38:06 UTC

Despite sleeping like crap currently, I dragged myself to the #bouldering gym this morning, as I had a way too long break already *again*. This year is a lot so far...
Anyway. Strength could have been better, but that will come back. The most important thing is that I went and that I climbed.

After he mentioned that he spotted a hedgehog in the garden, I gifted my dad a trail camera to his birthday. He got it Saturday. This morning I got an excited message that there's apparently not only a hedgehog in the garden! 🦝
He's very excited, and that makes me INCREDIBLY happy! 🥰 Especially since he's sharing this excitement directly with me via Signal & the smart phone I also got him (not for his birthday, but on the same day - he didn't want one, but for various reasons it was time)

If you are wondering what that latin phrase was that I ended my talk with:
"Ceterum censeo genAI esse delendam"
Translation: "Furthermore I'm of the opinion that genAI needs to be destroyed"
This is in reference to "Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carthago_delenda_est
I thought long and hard about including this. And then I pondered whether I should go with "genAI" or "BigTech". I chose based on this specific talk's content. This might become a thing in my future talks.

Was ein Dreck.

@nprofile…kudx @nprofile…fnex I know. I wouldn't be surprised if they even shipped the dev's bash history, I keep seeing that on 3d printers.
No wonder shit like this keeps happening though if this is the general modus operandi.

@nprofile…fnex definitely. But such default settings shouldn't end up on production.

@nprofile…fnex and why would they bind it to 0.0.0.0?!

When I signed the order for my (first) EV on Saturday, I had a short talk with the vendor why I ordered two physical keys and why I'm not interested in unlocking the car remotely. Told him I'm a software developer with a personal interest in security, which doesn't help with trusting this stuff.
For some reason, a network interface on the public charging infra (that I'll depend on) wasn't yet on my radar though 😬

Wirklich zufrieden!

@nprofile…l7rx VW ID.Polo is the equivalent. The Born is the ID3 equivalent ^^
(I went down the rabbit hole hard the past months)

@nprofile…l7rx a mechanic did a quick fix that might have solved it, but my trust into the Nissan is a bit down... But even if it doesn't survive the next six months, at least now there's an end in sight of depending on it.

@nprofile…em59 yeah, that page is... Something else. But after looking at several EVs I can tell you, they are pretty much all like that

I just bought a car 😬 Most expensive signature of my life so far!
Will have to wait for delivery of my Cupra Raval Endurance until January (-ish).
In the meantime I at least have a model of it ^^
