Big thanks to @npub1dhj…74gv and [@durrendal](https://mastodon.social/@durrendal ) for the work done so far!

I know AI has been flooding the zone with vulnerabilities and that your computer systems are all on fire. It is inconvenient but the unpaid open source volunteers also need to take care of their family and friends, do doctors appointments, handle leaking roof, get the winter wheels on their car, handle daily job responsibilities, proper rest and recovery, and similar things.
Just saying

Hugs to everyone who has been doing security fixes, patching, upgrades and incident reports this week. The work you do is appreciated!

Alpine Linux releases:
https://alpinelinux.org/posts/Alpine-3.21.9-3.22.7-3.23.7-3.24.3-released.html

2026-10-21 21:02:17 UTC

People are asking when fixes for php are landing in alpine <old>. we have php85, php84 and php83. five maintained branches (edge, v3.24, v3.23, v3.22, v3.21). This is 15 packages that needs to be fixed. test suite regressions needs to be handled. It is not realistic to expect all that work be done for every php security fix for two years for free.
If you care about one branch, help us fix it. We may accept merge requests if CI is green, but don't *expect* anything
#AlpineLinux

2026-10-20 21:06:19 UTC

There is a lot work going on to get the fixes out for https://emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/ updated packages for ca-certifcates were bumped within a couple of hours and are out.
I am a bit worried for the extra load on our gitlab instance. If you want read git history etc, please use the mirror https://git.alpinelinux.org/aports
If you are not actively working on getting security fixes and stable releases out, please wait a bit if you can.
Thanks!

Seems like those RISC-V K3 machines with 32GB ram is sold out everywhere. Would love to have a couple of those for building Alpine Linux packages.
Are there anyone who could help us with getting one or two of those? Preferable the pico-ITX.

Alpine Linux 3.24.0 Release Candidate 1 is tagged.
The install scripts has support for ipv6, Limine boot loader and has got lots of man pages. serial console should also be set up in boot loader if you install from serial console. Raspberry pi now uses 6.18 kernel.
Please help us test!

Oh, and thank you very much for all the help getting this done! There has been a significant amount of work to fix all the issues along the way.

2026-03-27 19:46:32 UTC

I just pushed python 3.14 to alpine linux edge. It will keep the builders busy for a while to rebuild the 1900+ packages. There will probably be some inconsistency between main and community (we upload main before starting to build community). Hopefully it will not cause too much pain.
Thanks for your patience!

I would like to drop armhf (armv6) support in #AlpineLinux. The only current hardware I am aware of that is armv6 is Raspberry Pi Zero series (EOL 2030). I don't think it is worth the extra effort to support both armhf (armv6) and armv7 at this point.
Do you think we should drop armhf to free up some resources?

We finally got Alpine Llinux 3.23 out the door. It comes with 6.18 (LTS) kernel and zfs-2.4.0-rc4 (just like FreeBSD 15...). You may want verify that you have backup before upgrade if you use ZFS.

apk-tools 3 was merged to #AlpineLinux edge. Hold on to your hats!
Some of the new things are listed here:
https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/merge_requests/82593#note_520288

2025-06-24 13:48:10 UTC

We talked about the roadmap for #AlpineLinux 3.23 yesterday. So far we have:
- apk-tools 3.0
- gcc 15
- python 3.13
- improve/clean up Alpine user handbook (we need volunteers for this)
See
https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/issues/17294 if you want help or have things you are working on that should be included.

2025-06-24 12:38:27 UTC

We are planning to update apk-tools to 3.0 in edge repository on July 1, 2025.
We are keeping the apk 2 index and package formats for now, so everything *should* just work, but scripts parsing the output of apk may need to be adjusted.

it does what I need, but still relatively simple. It is well maintained. Lots of themes which probably means an active community. Will hopefully make it easier for others to contribute. And Go is nice.

2025-01-08 15:53:46 UTC

I'm thinking of starting test hugo for the alpinelinux.org website. I have already spent the time budget on browsing hugo themes without finding anything perfect.
Are there any good hugo theme that would fit?
Small and simple is good. no-javascript is a plus. (Alpine.js would be cool?) Similar layout or color palette from current is also a plus. No npm also a plus.

This week I have experienced both the good and the bad with working with open source.
The good: Today I asked in gcc IRC channel about build failure of cross compiler. They were able the help me in the right direction and I found out it must be a bug in busybox awk. Feels so good to find that out, after banging my head into this for a couple of days. Ask for help early!
(still don't know exactly how busybox awk is broken 😨 )

I just pushed linux-lts 6.12 to #AlpineLinux edge and this will be the kernel for Alpine 3.21.

Just pushed linux-virt 6.6.58-r1 and this boots. If you use edge, please make sure you have 6.6.58-r1 (not -r0) before you reboot.
