the Starlink satellite swarm burnups will be one of the biggest nails in the coffin of our warming world and it may not even be remembered as one of the principal causes. it's warming that has largely yet to happen, but the satellites are already up there, just waiting to reach the ends of their short lifetimes, run out of propellant gasses, deorbit, and take swathes of our fragile ozone layer as they do in droves. that ozone plays a critical role in our climate, without it, more UV light will reach the surface, be converted to heat and reradiated into our atmosphere only to be reflected back by an ever increasingly IR opaque sky. It's all just... going to happen. It's already done, all we can do is try to not send up any more LEO satellites than we already have, and prepare ourselves to survive in a UV harsh world.

It's one of the things I think about when I look at the Moon.

leftists need to recognize that we are at war. the fascists are here, they are dangerous, and we can't just put our heads in the sand and let them take all the power for themselves. the liberals may very well be among the targets of their war, but we are definitely on the list. get organized and absolutely get armed. we most learn the mistakes of the Indonesian Communist Party before it was massacred and disappeared. This is not a matter of revolution vs reform, it's a matter of collective and self defense.

2024-11-27 04:27:58 UTC

so I've just spent the last however long reading about left-communism and generally the history of the New Economic Policy, and generally diving into just what all this schism was even about. Here's my takeaway:
There are always going to be differences in tactics and strategies in how we approach the project of building socialism, and also, we really shouldn't let the rifts formed by extremely dead europeans over the tactics and specific policies over extremely dissolved nations define us today. the discourse seems, frankly, bad. Thankfully, it seems that the frankly abysmal discourse surrounding this doesn't seem to be present in the leftist communities to which I have found myself, including this network on fedi.
It is factionalist disputes like these which is why I just call myself a communist, or even a socialist in some company, because getting more specific stinks of a certain, almost protestant sort of denominationalism over things we really can bridge the gap about. hell, I can even reach across the aisle and shake hands with anarchists and call them comrades. Lenin was pragmatic, we must be pragmatic. we get so caught up in looking backwards that we forget to look forwards, to envision a new socialist future. we cannot lose sight of that, even as understanding the history of the imperialism and of previous revolutions is paramount. As zorotl has said, "I am with whatever revolution educates the kids."

We are entering the time of the Seventh Fire. The time of choosing. This time is short, however. The window of time in which the choice can still be made shrinks. The choice, to abandon the false promise or to embrace it, is all the time left civilization has. If we abandon the capitalist way, the imperialist way, and embrace humble and sustainable living in equality and as one, then we may yet save the dying Earth. It is my hope that you all will help make the right choice, walk the right road. This is what drives me onward.

2024-11-06 01:43:42 UTC

The Seventh Prophet that came to the people long ago was said to be different from the other prophets. This prophet was described as "young and had a strange light in his eyes" and said,
"In the time of the Seventh Fire a Oshkibimadizeeg (New People) will emerge. They will retrace their steps to find what was left by the trail. Their steps will take them to the Elders who they will ask to guide them on their journey. But many of the Elders will have fallen asleep. They will awaken to this new time with nothing to offer. Some of the Elders will be silent because no one will ask anything of them. The New People will have to be careful in how they approach the Elders. The task of the New People will not be easy.
If the New People will remain strong in their quest the Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge will again sound its voice. There will be a rebirth of the Anishinaabe Nation and a rekindling of old flames. The Sacred Fire will again be lit.
It is this time that the light skinned race will be given a choice between two roads. One road will be green and lush, and very inviting. The other road will be black and charred, and walking it will cut their feet. In the prophecy, the people decide to take neither road, but instead to turn back, to remember and reclaim the wisdom of those who came before them. If they choose the right road, then the Seventh Fire will light the Eighth and final Fire, an eternal fire of peace, love, brotherhood and sisterhood. If the light skinned race makes the wrong choice of the roads, then the destruction which they brought with them in coming to this country will come back at them and cause much suffering and death to all the Earth's people."
Today, it may seem like capitalism's headlong rush towards a technologically fueled apocalypse of its own make is inevitable. It may seem like war and exploitation and industrial excess is the only path there may be, but we have already lived in harmony with nature once. We can learn to live it again. Indeed, we are faced with two roads, and with dwindling time to choose our path. In the prophecy, it is not the New People who must make this choice, but rather, the light skinned race. Capitalism's promise has come in a false way, it is not sustainable. It is a fire that is going to burn itself out of oxygen.
Industrial capitalism is a tremendously alien state of affairs, one enforced through violence and it poses an existential threat to us all, in the end. There is a choice, thankfully. What choice is made is yet to be determined.

Another prophet spoke.
"In the time of the Sixth Fire it will be evident that the promise of the Fifth Fire came in a false way. Those deceived by this promise will take their children away from the teachings of the Elders. Grandsons and granddaughters will turn against the Elders. In this way the Elders will lose their reason for living ... they will lose their purpose in life. At this time a new sickness will come among the people. The balance of many people will be disturbed. The cup of life will almost become the cup of grief."
A new sickness. The balance of the many people will be disturbed. The cup of life will almost become the cup of grief. This is recent history now, the Sixth Fire is ongoing. Many of the elders have indeed fallen silent, Edward Benton-Banai himself who recorded the prophecies died of Covid in 2020. The boarding schools beat the very will to live from many of us. We have lived long in this dismal age, I have seen its many predictions come true. But we are entering now, I think, the beginning of a new age. An age of change, and choice. Capitalism's time is coming to an end, one way or the other. We do not need divine revelation to see this is coming and know it to be true.

Another prophet spoke.
"In the time of the Fifth Fire there will come a time of great struggle that will grip the lives of all native people. At the waning of this Fire there will come among the people one who holds a promise of great joy and salvation. If the people accept this promise of a new way and abandon the old teachings, then the struggle of the Fifth Fire will be with the people for many generations. The promise that comes will prove to be a false promise. All those who accept this promise will cause the near destruction of the people."
Benton-Banai adds,
"When indeed the Fifth Fire came to pass, a great struggle did indeed grip the lives of all Native people. The light skinned race launched a military attack on Indian people throughout the country aimed at taking away their land and independence as free and sovereign people. It is now felt that the false promise that came at the end of the Fifth Fire was the materials and riches embodied in the way of life of the light-skinned race. Those who abandoned the ancient ways and accepted the new promise [capitalism] were a big factor in causing the near-destruction of the Native people of this land."

The fourth prophet was given to the people by a twin spirit, two prophets of one body. They spoke as one and the first said,
"You will know the future of our people by the face the light skinned race wears. If they come wearing the face of neekonnisiwin (brotherhood) then there will come a time of wonderful change for generations to come. They will bring new knowledge and articles that can be joined with the knowledge of this country. In this way, two nations will join to make a mighty nation. This new nation will be joined by two more so that four will form the mightiest nation of all. You will know the face of the brotherhood if the light skinned race comes carrying no weapons, if they come bearing only their knowledge and a hand shake."
The other one said,
"Beware if the light skinned race comes wearing the face of death. You must be careful because the face of brotherhood and the face of death look very much alike. If they come carrying a weapon ... beware. If they come in suffering ... They could fool you. Their hearts may be filled with greed for the riches of this land. If they are indeed your brothers, let them prove it. Do not accept them in total trust. You shall know that the face they wear is one of death if the rivers run with poison and fish become unfit to eat. You shall know them by these many things."
In the time of this fire, the wemitigoozhiimo (wooden-boat people), the French, arrived. They traded with us, and initial contact was actually quite friendly, but then the Zhaaganaash (off-shore ones) the British, arrived. To be followed by Gichi-mookomaan (big-knives) the Americans. Many nations did indeed become one nation, the mightiest of all...

The second prophet came eventually to the Anishinaabe,
"You will know the Second Fire because at this time the nation will be camped by a large body of water. In this time the direction of the Sacred Shell will be lost. The Midewiwin will diminish in strength. A girl will be born to point the way back to the traditional ways. She will show the direction to the stepping stones to the future of the Anishinaabe people."
Eventually, a Potawatomi girl had a dream and pointed the southern group back towards and past the "Round Lake" (lake St. Clair)
In this time, the Anishinaabe fractured into Ojibwe (also known as Chippewa), Potawatomi, and Odawa, but after this girl's dream they would be reunified not as a united people but rather as an alliance of three sibling tribes, the nation Neshnabek - the Council of Three Fires. The Ojibwe, the eldest kinsmen, ignited the flames of the Council and were entrusted with keeping the sacred scrolls and teachings of the Midewewin (medicine) Lodge. The Odawa were second, and were the Keepers of Trade and were fierce warriors. The Potawatomi were the youngest brothers, and are responsible for nurturing the Neshnabek council fire.
The Council crossed a series of small islands, "the stepping stones" until they arrived at Manitoulin island, the fourth stopping place.

Let me tell you a story. The story of my people, a story still being written.
Many years ago, seven major neegawnnakayg (prophets) came to the Anishinaabe. The first of these prophets came to us when we lived in the Dawnland, the modern northeastern coast of North America. The first of the prophets said,
"In the time of the First Fire, [the first age] the Anishinaabe nation will rise up and follow the sacred shell of the Midewiwin Lodge. The Midewiwin Lodge will serve as a rallying point for the people and its traditional ways will be the source of much strength. The Sacred Megis will lead the way to the chosen ground of the Anishinaabe. You are to look for a turtle shaped island that is linked to the purification of the earth. You will find such an island at the beginning and end of your journey. There will be seven stopping places along the way. You will know the chosen ground has been reached when you come to a land where food grows on water. If you do not move you will be destroyed."
The people moved and arrived at the first stopping place, an island near Niagara Falls, following the Sacred Shells. 🧵

I've finished reading The Jakarta Method and it's a good read to follow up having just recently read Blackshirts and Reds. Blackshirts and Reds was about the fall of the Second World, whereas this was the same story but centered around the Third World, it's about the killing of the dream associated with that phrase. Third not to mean third rate, but Third sequentially, having learned from both before.

the SWIFT system and international banks such as IMF and World Bank are distinctly US institutions, designed over 100 years ago for the benefit of the western powers when they all still had control over much of the world. these institutions, which are necessary pillars of neocolonialism, must be made obsolete. The US maintains sanctions on a third of all countries on Earth, sanctions which only have the power to freeze assets and halt dealings only while these institutions remain the only way.
The US and EU have raised interest rates, shooting their own economies in the foot, but by doing this they massively increase the value of their own currencies against global south currencies, making it even harder to pay off their debts or to raise interest rates themselves and destroy their own economies in the process. This is the flow of money and development away from the poorest counties, to the richest.

The fight against climate change, and the growth demanding economic mode called capitalism, is existential. TAKE HEART IN THIS: The system of imperialism, competition, and capitalism is far from inevitable. It is fragile, and cracking. A new world is being born! We will pick up what was left by the trail, we will forge new, harmonious ways of life with ancient wisdom and modern brilliance all the same. The alien state of things under industrial capitalism is far from natural, far from sustainable. It is destroying the very world, yes, but it is not done and for so long as we all still breathe and dream it will not be.

So called environmentalists cannot imagine civilization living in beneficial coexistence with nature. This is a failure of imagination. For thousands of years, societies lived not only in harmony with nature but actively contributed to the wellbeing of ecosystems to which we are a part. It is a total failure of imagination to think that we can not do so again. Short sighted exploitation of nature pushing natural systems and relations into a position of collapse is not an inherent quality of humanity but rather the result of a system of incentives--global capitalism. We can set up a system of incentives otherwise, a sustainable and co-beneficial system is possible. Humans are clever and nature is resilient, but so long as capitalism continues to exist, the antagonism will remain.

how am I meant to hate China when the headlines coming out of China are like "China has a 96% home ownership rate" "China invented a sodium-ion battery" "China accounted for 59% of the world's renewable addons this year" "China's cell therapy cures diabetes" "Chinese Billionaire guilty of bribery put to fucking death"

there has never yet been a successful revolution in the imperial core, not really, not since the paris commune. There is resistance and that is good but I really do fear that the crumbs offered in combination with massive oppression will always keep people docile enough to prevent radical change. There is a way but it is unprecedented, narrow, risky, and daunting. What gives me hope is that revolutionaries in many successful revolutions often had it much worse in many ways than we do now. Perhaps it will need to get worse before it gets better. I do know that revolution and change elsewhere, outside the imperial core, can force change. It is my hope that the global revolution will eventually reach the imperial core after the empire itself falls.

the West is a lost cause, the middle class is far too content for revolution, even peaceful. the cowards won't even be radical enough to vote green as opposed to blue

let the birth rates fall actually, it's fine. It is to the dismay of racists, landlords, evangelicals, and capitalists that people are having less kids. I'm not an antinatalist by any means, mind you, but it is worth reminding everybody that falling birth rates is not in fact a problem at all.

the US has done a pitiful job, the reliance on "the market" to fix climate change is ludicrous because there will never be a world where the initial investment is worth the payoff from a profit seeking prospective. state intervention is required.

the US, and indeed the democrats more broadly, have shown they are more interested in protectionist policies aimed against China than they are interested in investment into clean energy alternatives and vehicles. all their clean energy bluster is just that, talk.
