Not sure if people are aware, but there's been an increase in #GitHub suspending accounts. When this happens, their created issues disappear because the account is effectively disappeared. Beyond that, when it happens to a person who is a sole maintainer of a project, the impact is extremely high. We've seen at least two #Django community members have this happen to them in the last six months. I hadn't heard of this happening in my N years before that.

> A good solution would make so many self hosting options more viable to a wider audience
That feels like the evergreen problem in the web space. How do we make hosting and running things easier and more accessible?

A neat side effect of having an actual RSS feed was being able to look up who's blogs I read on a regular basis about Django content.

Have you been looking for ways to level up as a Django developer?
https://www.better-simple.com/django/2026/04/21/who-is-helping-you-level-up-as-a-django-dev/
I started a new business back in February, but did so with a "quiet" roll out. Here's where I start being a bit louder. Whether you want mentorship, coaching or tutoring, I'd like to help you.
Side note, it's a big win for me to be able to work with four people already.

I really enjoyed this #Django blog post from @npub12vj…0ak3
https://dev.to/rodbv/djangonaut-diaries-week-6-charting-the-unknown-unknowns-of-a-pr-3ba3
He perfectly captures the difficulties of a new contributor looking to add a new feature and the existing contributors evaluating a feature request. There's also a great section on comparing the difference in environment of contributing to Django compared to a job. It's worth a read.

Finally got around to updating my getting started contributing to #Django post, with recent talks from @npub10c6…0j74, @npub194x…edly and Jacob. I ended up removing the older GSoC pages because there's already a lot of links and people can probably guess the pattern after 3 😁

If you're new to contributing to Django and you're using an LLM, please consider reading this. We want to bring you into the community, but we can't do that only interacting with an LLM's output.

@npub1qsd…3jep is a wonderful resource for the #Django community. I'm always excited to read the latest edition. This week's included some love for https://django-antipatterns.org
The site includes extra context on JsonResponse(safe=) which clarifies why it's important. Thankfully, browsers have gotten better to the point where this feature (and antipattern) can be removed!

For people who use the #Django Debug Toolbar, what are your thoughts on having the toolbar allow you to run a non-select query in the SQL panel?
Today it allows you to run and explain on the query. There's an issue to better improve what is considered a select query (the existing check is crude), but it's making me wonder, should we allow a person to re-run an update, delete, create query?

@npub1nzc…yxy0 Hey, regarding https://github.com/wagtail/wagtail/issues/13570#issuecomment-3532398978, any chance you have that as a write up? I'd love to learn from what you did, and maybe wrap it up into a package if you haven't already.

Another stellar post from previous @npub1zcc…afwd, Philip Narteh 🚀
https://labs.quansight.org/blog/migrating-pyopensci-to-django
> This blog post is about that journey. It's about learning about tools, meeting brilliant people across Quansight, and discovering that open source is less about the code you write and more about the people you collaborate with along the way, as well as what you learn. The goal isn't perfection. It's progress.

I like the idea of more how to docs and blog posts to help counter this. Eventually we will solve the UI update, but we can use fresher content now.

to be honest, it was more of the conversation with Emily that lead to me being comfortable committing to taking an extended break than the festbier.
But also, the full day celebrations start Saturday 🪗🍻

Our local lager only brewery held their first night of Oktoberfest last night. There was a German food truck selling brats with kraut.
One thing led to another and when we got home I finally bought the violin for my sabbatical/retirement. It's becoming real folks!

my issue was that the dinosaurs looked like generic monsters. I felt that it was the worst of the bunch, but I could have been overly critical.
