Was in no state to meal prep this weekend so I'm making quiche at 9 PM on a Monday night. A little overcooked, but that's the way I like it.
Tomato on top, lots of fresh basil inside, and I'll drizzle it with balsamic glaze to finish. The Holy Trinity.

I have a sense that it has something to do with math.
Mathematics is the abstract scaffolding of the universe (at least in many peoples' view, including mine), and music is a way that people can really feel math, without the laborious process of learning all the rules and notation.
Having gone a decent ways into math and physics, I can feel a similar transcendence when flowing through derivations and proofs.

It's the early hours of the morning where I am. It's dark, I'm alone, and I've got a fever so these are the kind of thoughts I'm having:
You ever notice how the name of the entity itself (United Kingdom) is focussed completely on the nature of its own government?
Peru is the given name of a specific place, as is Liberia, Estonia, and many others. The word means the place, as my name means me.
"The UK" means a place as well but, fully spelled out, it is a self-referential description of its political power structure. United: this is a union of preexisting power structures. Kingdom: this place is, ostensibly, ruled by a monarch.
The United States of America is similar, but at least retains one proper name: America.
I don't know if this means anything, or is just the curious observance of a fever-addled mind. It is worth noting that both the UK and the US are, culturally, highly heterogeneous. Melting pots, they say, though not all the ingredients seem pleased to be melting. A single cultural identity is not so fiercely guarded as it is in, say, Japan. Perhaps a unique, given name is an important point of stability and unity to hold onto in times of turmoil. A sterile description of a political system inspires less loyalty, it would seem.

I know those devices well; that will pay for itself many times over in time saved over the years.
Nevertheless, it is quite an undertaking to make pickles at volume. My wife and I pickle a bunch of different stuff each fall to distribute at Christmas, and we've never failed to underestimate how much time it will take 😂

BTW, if I understand correctly it's just web based for now. Is the plan to eventually make it an app?

I like Yaki, but I don't want to be an undue burden on relays.

Day 3 of getting my house in order, physically and mentally.
Dragged my fat ass to the gym for the first time in over 2 months. Modest start, just a few k ran and a few k walked on the treadmill, followed by a thorough stretch.
I run in thin sole shoes, rubber slippers basically, so it's going to take a few weeks to get my calves tuned up again. Once they're conditioned though, it's the way to go. Wearing shoes without a padded heel forces you to land and push off with the front of your foot with each step, essentially turning your foot and lower leg into a spring loaded joint centered around the ankle. It's like you're Oscar Pistorius, the blade runner, except without the murder part.
This was a lot easier before I was carrying these 30 extra pounds. Only way out is through.
🤘

This is NOT how you're supposed to hike, in steel toed work shoes and jeans, but that was what I was wearing when I snapped out of it (I accidentally wore these home on Friday, leaving my daily driver shoes at work).
By "snapped out of it" I mean that I've been going through a nasty rough patch lately, living like a real piece of shit. Eating garbage, not exercising, drinking on weekends sometimes. Bear Market of the Soul vibes.
I suppose I could try to explain it away with the fact that my mother died in August but let's be real, this started well before then. I've become fat and lethargic over the past year and no doubt the new job I took last September has something to do with that, but it's no excuse. My wife's been going through a similar thing, but that's not my story to tell.
A couple hours ago I was hit with one of those slap-you-in-the-face, what-the-hell-are-you-doing-with-your-life moments. This is not the way. You need to wrench yourself out of this, and you need to be the pillar of strength that your wife can grab hold of to pull herself out of it too.
So I left the house and just started walking. Luckily there's a small mountain nearby in the middle of the city, so I'm doing a 14k loop that'll take me around the backside, then all the way up, then back down and home. It's a start.
I've been staring into the abyss for a long time without realizing it. Time to look forward.

I will agree that it's a unit of measurement that has outgrown its usefulness for amounts that matter to the average person.
Furthermore, I will conceed that it's an arbitrary construction and that sats are what actually appear in the base code. It's as if we treated Avogadro's number as the "real" unit and small numbers of atoms as fractions thereof. Kind of ridiculous when you think about it that way.
I do think this will be a hard thing to change though. Cultural inertia and all that. Maybe what ends up changing is just people's familiarity and comfort with sats as a unit.
I have to ask though, does your excited nephew understand that you haven't gifted him $8.5 billion equivalent?

I think I'm getting to the point in my life where
1: My increasing desire for a clean home, and
2. My sustained desire for animal companionship, are
3. Starting to override my distaste for the appearance of hairless cats.
I've got two short-hairs right now and I swear, 95% of the food these things eat just goes towards superfluous hair production. It's fucking EXCESSIVE.
Maybe I oughta get into snakes...

Jesus man, just watched MK's 41 minute hit piece on you (the first 20 mins, rather; that's about as much of that shite as I cared to listen to). The vibes are getting ugly over there.
There's problems on the main chain, sure, but I think that's where the battles need to be fought (and won). I can only speak for myself but I'd be happy to see you back.

I suspect he agrees with us a lot more than he pretends to.
He's too smart not to get it at some level, and there's something overly theatrical about his naysaying that makes me doubt whether he really believes it. I suspect he may be playing a long game of some sort.
If nothing else, he already publicly holds at least 5 million sats which is more than 99% of the world.

I think step 2 is where the schism originates.
While you and I might agree that the defensibility of the network is paramount, many people, it would seem, do not value it. They are concerned with other things, like jpegs and convoluted taproot constructions.
