Hit a local cafe as soon as it opened and finally had a little quiet and alone time away from the TPAC chaos. Cappuccino, joined only by Notorious B.I.G., is a nice way to start the day.

I feel there’s nearly a decade of evidence suggesting he doesn’t give a shit about accessibility except as a virtue-signal-slash-cudgel.
Also, his Gutenberg push drove blind users away. But he’ll use that result to blame the WP-a11y team anyway.
This guy is WordPress’s biggest single risk.

Bomb it with what? Raw sewage from the USS Abraham Lincoln?

@nprofile…j290 This might be useful to you (anchor link):
https://adrianroselli.com/2023/03/css-only-widgets-are-inaccessible.html#Tabs
You’re right that HTML has no tab element. Until it does, ARIA provides it. Just like ARIA provided dialogs and disclosure widgets and accordions and landmarks and more until HTML caught up.

@nprofile…j290 `appearance: none` :
https://www.scottohara.me/blog/2021/09/24/custom-radio-checkbox-again.html
But don’t use radio buttons as a tab widget. That’s not their purpose and will confuse some AT users. They are form controls.

It’s important to know (IMO) that headings can never go beyond level 9 with this feature:

And avoid pushing past 6.

If you hate that largely pointless LinkedIn sidebar:
```
.scaffold-layout__aside {
display: none;
}
.scaffold-layout--reflow .scaffold-layout__content--sidebar-main-aside {
grid-template-areas: "sidebar main main";
}
```
Because I was forced to use LinkedIn today.

I am vaguely annoyed these are called ‘enhancements’.
Animated GIF alt:
App menu → Settings → AI Controls → “Block AI Enhancements” (toggle).
Then scroll down and find Translations. Change from “Blocked” to “Available”.

@nprofile…tuer Yes. It has focus and you have hidden that focus. That’s a 2.4.7 risk.
Without knowing _why_ the page focused the thing, it would be irresponsible for me to assume the user doesn’t need to know where focus jumped.

I asked on Masto (https://toot.cafe/@aardrian/113782246553032503) then on BlueSky (https://bsky.app/profile/aardrian.bsky.social/post/3lf67olt5gk27), but I think Smashing is only active on Twitter (ugh) and LinkedIn (also ugh).
This time I screenshat the comment in advance of submitting.
Anyway, it’s 2025 and articles are still promoting poor contrast, color alone, and broken errors.

And Meta / Facebook / Instagram / Threads bringing Dana White onto the board (to replace former MP and Brexiter Nick Clegg) is absolutely pre-emptive Trump bootlicking.

I understand many people use those platforms for reasons, but maybe continue to find ways to not.

Folks, you don’t need URL shorteners here like buff•ly, bit•ly, etc.
In fact, I am *far* less likely to click a link using a shortener. It’s a signal that you are tracking clicks, that the content is just marketing chaff.
Share it because you see value, not for the engagement farming.

So Windows Notepad got spell-check.
And it defaults to auto-correcting what you type.
So it corrected “accessiBe” to “accessible” and now I have to go fix my post update.
Anyway: Settings (gear icon) → Spelling → Autocorrect: off
