Blogs recently:
"I wrote this cool project I've always wanted. I used a coding assistant"
"I did this detailed analysis of something fun. I wouldn't have written 5kloc to do this if llms didn't make it so easy"
Meanwhile, oligarchs:
"Your computer shouldn't have any ram; it should just be a terminal for our ai service"
There is something deeply irresponsible about these bloggers and folks asking for nuance about llms; it's like that guy who says "I've only had one drink, I can still drive"

I was being silly and my 7yo went ad hominem, "you microplastic!"

paraphrasing: when interfacing with hardware, unexpected things may happen (perhaps it is incompletely documented or experiencing run of the mill wrong behaviors that result from interacting with the world, etc); the variety of states that it /could/ be in aren't always possible to predict (and therefore aren't possible to model).. if you /don't/ program defensively against this inevitability, then you assume wrong invariants (hence infinite loop, etc) and have a wrong model (2/2)

neither the blog post nor the user comment that i linked to mention "make illegal states unrepresentable" so i thought their discussion of it to be unintentional because they don't seem to recognize that concept is in play
paraphrased, the author of the user comment says that "make illegal states unrepresentable" isn't always possible in systems programming, and so you need to test program state at times, during runtime, to ensure things are as you expect (1/2)

this is the best unintentional critique of "make illegal states unrepresentable" I've seen https://lobste.rs/s/wucizv/no_panic_rust_nice_technique_for_systems#c_ysdzf9 tl;dr "shit happens"

well, geocities had a point-and-click gui for website creation iirc; using it was optional, and made it so that people who don't code can also have a website
(Am I remembering right? That was on geocities, right? a java thing)

the idea of a federated hosting platform is pretty interesting though..
solves the problem that many more people want websites than are willing to host, the undercommit that comes with renting your own vps, and implicitly creates a network effect via federation: Linking to another federated webhost could be detected locally and shared via activitypub

#haskell 'req' http client library has bad defaults:
- it retries a failed request 5 times with 50ms delay [potential DOS]
- provides json deserialization via aeson instances but no way to access received json on failure

Holy #programmersocks, batman! The #haskell bind operator ">>=" is basically a monochrome #progresspride flag
