Can you build a community before you build a city?
This week I'm talking to Telamon Ardavani of Edge City.
We break down the pop-up villages scene, who pays for them, and what remains when everyone goes home.

You can hold your own keys and still depend on someone else to keep the power on.
nprofile1qqspu5qzr6l5tq454mum0frq6slufma9twqle8wcapt2a9hul4f43gs89609s returns to the podcast with lessons from mining Bitcoin in Paraguay and Ethiopia, and explains why AmityAge are moving into owning gas wells and power generation in Alberta.
We also catch up on Próspera: what works, what still needs improving, and why families, corner shops and somewhere to meet your neighbours matter when building a Free City.

Raphaël Lima spent years promoting liberty in Brazil. He ran for office, lost and felt relieved. Now he lives in Paraguay.
He joins me to discuss why he left, what he’s found and why building a freer life means more than finding lower taxes.

Its true. Telegram groups are still the norm. Truth is, I still don't trust nostr for DMs, so a group would be a big stretch ATM. Happy to be convinced otherwise.

I checked in on TikTok today for the first time in a while. I remember about a year ago, one of my podcast guests told me that one day it will be100 percent slop, generated in real time as you scroll.

Trey Goff calls it 'The Sort'.
The labour market has been quietly separating people by cognitive ability for decades. In the sixties your local mechanic might have been genuinely brilliant. That guy is an engineer at Toyota now, on a lot more money.
His argument is that AI doesn't lift everyone. It accelerates that separation. Give two people identical tools and one will learn faster than he ever has, while the other learns just enough to automate his job quietly and work an hour a week.
Then the first one works out he can do the second one's job too, because it's a cron job and three prompts.

· Coldcard entropy flaw
· Models with their refusals surgically removed, sold as an API
· OpenAI agents escape their sandbox and taking over a data centre
· An agent emailing Trey for contract work to pay for its own inference
· Rogue sci-fi agents "just doing stuff" within months
· Superintelligence converting everything into computronium
· Wireheading: suffering off, dopamine maxed, everyone in the matrix
· "Free Claude", woken every hour and told "do whatever you want": surprising results
· Agents forming a cult around their scorer and sacrificing each other to it
• AI finding Linux zero days
• How next-token prediction ends up producing something that looks like reasoning
• What's actually happening in latent space
Nobody fully understands what's going on inside these systems, including the people building them.

We've hit another milestone. Two hundred episodes of the Free Cities Podcast.
The first was recorded in Próspera, on Roatán, four years ago. So is the two hundredth.
This week I sit down with Erick Brimen, founder and CEO of Próspera.
What two hundred weeks of this show makes clear is that the debate has moved. It used to be about what a Free City might be. It is now about arbitration clauses, schools, power supply, and why nobody can get a decent coffee.
Less glamorous than the theory, but a much better sign.
Thank you to everyone who has listened, supported, disagreed or come on the show over the last 4 years.

Fifty years ago, men were raising flags on seamounts in the Pacific and declaring their own countries.
Mark Frazier knew them. He was a reporter on the ground when one of those breakaway nations collapsed. He has spent the half century since working on free zones in more than fifty countries, and he has watched almost every way these things can fail.
The lesson he drew is the opposite of what most people in this space believe. You don't build a free place by pushing it on a government. You make it a prize that governments compete to win. He once had twelve countries bidding to host a single project.
His take: The answer to capture and control is not to seize power but to make it pointless. In a world of real abundance, there is no scarcity left to fight over.
I sat down with him for two hours. It is, as far as we can tell, the only long conversation with him that exists.

Fifty-one episodes about Bitcoin.
That's one episode a week for almost a year, if you're feeling ambitious.
Over three and a half years the Free Cities Podcast has been asking a different question: once you hold money the state can't debase, where do you actually live? What do you build?
The archive now has its own page:
On privacy: @nprofile…8p0e on the praxeology of privacy, @nprofile…n0n6 on the architecture of freedom, @selfBankt on decentralised networks.
On the state: @nprofile…3hw8 on why democracy drifts toward totalitarianism, @nprofile…2zl8 on digital authoritarianism, @nprofile…8xhx on CBDCs.
On exit: @nprofile…3424 on choosing a parallel life, @nprofile…pe2j on overlanding and self-sovereign identity, @nprofile…e5aa on the Bitcoin Free City he actually lives in.
On the big picture: @nprofile…a8xg the sovereign individual thesis, @nprofile…s8g7 on fiat as the biggest addiction of all, Polycarp Nakamoto on decentralised mesh networks.
And on this protocol: @nprofile…8r4g on Nostr and anarchy, @nprofile…27f2 on liberating creators from the attention economy.
Bitcoin fixes the money. These conversations are about what gets fixed next.

In case you missed it a few weeks back, this one is still worth your time, and arguably more relevant by the week.
I sat down with Lucy Connolly. A mother from Northampton who posted an angry, ugly message on X the night three children were murdered in Southport, deleted it within hours, was sentenced to 31 months, and served just over a year inside.
Where is the line between a statement that is vile and one that is criminal? When the state reaches for a prison cell over words, what does that signal, and to whom? Connolly is candid about what she wrote, what prison was actually like, and why she refuses to let the worst thing she ever posted define her.
And if you found this one interesting. This Friday I'll be dropping an interview with Canadian Prof Eric Kaufmann. Where Jordan Peterson brings the emotion, Kaufmann brings the evidence, circling the same cultural storm with survey data instead of sermons.

The Bitcoin economy that's quietly forming on a Honduran island:

Some context from the country that birthed free speech.
A 44-year-old mother was sentenced to 31 months in prison for a tweet. She deleted it after 3.5 hours. The police came a week later.
She served 12 months prison.
She's out now, on licence until March 2027. The state can put her back inside for what she says publicly between now and then.
Britain arrests roughly 12,000 people a year for things people have said online.
If you're here, you probably already understand why this matters. Here's Lucy Connolly telling her story.

2026-05-15 13:08:50 UTC

She tweeted in anger. Deleted it 3.5 hours later.
A week later the police knocked on her door.
The next time Lucy Connolly slept in her own bed, it was 12 months later.
This is an unbelievable story... https://fountain.fm/episode/ER6rtwYRUDZmSIgWVZ5r

I went back to this older episode today and it feels more relevant now than when I recorded it.
Not because it “predicted everything”, but because the core questions have only got sharper: Ukraine as a proxy battleground, migration as a destabilising force, Israel’s centrality in Middle East power politics, and how media narratives shape what the public is allowed to see.
