I think your fundamental premise about the parallelization of processing game events is complicated. As you know much better than me, many of those events depend upon the other events, so they are not parallelizable. Two agents cannot both pick up the same item - one must get priority, and the other's outcome depends upon that.
But maybe there are ways to partition the events into sets such that the content of each set can be processed in parallel.

As a pro programmer and hobbyist game dev, I am curious whether Structured Concurrency can be useful here. In an async context, it makes reasoning about parallelism easier, and can make some correctness guarantees that conventional async API's, thread launching very prominently amongst them, cannot ever provide. The canonical blog post bringing it all together is this one: https://vorpus.org/blog/notes-on-structured-concurrency-or-go-statement-considered-harmful/ and these ideas have since been merged into Python's stdlib.

I don't think I'm usually very conspiratorial, but I can't believe you haven't already written off your various packs of naysayers and detractors as 100% a concerted, organized sabotage. You give them too much credit by even engaging with them.

oh and then describe the ways we can make small repayments. Let our developers spend a little time contributing small fixes or improvements back to the libraries we use. Open source some judiciously chosen component we've written ourselves. Contribute financially to one of the services like Tidelift, that distributes money to authors, in proportion to the amount their work is used by others. Or adopt a particular project that is critical to us, and pay the developer of it directly.

But wait, I forgot to include the giant dependencies we rely on, like Django or Postgres. All boxes shrink by another order of magnitude revealing these whale sized new ones.
Finally, I add in Python and Linux themselves. Our original code has shrunk to the size of shoeboxes resting on mountains, invisibly small.
Instead of paying for the colossal amount of work to create those things we rely on, we've been gifted them for free. It's ok that we've taken them…

Then I compare that to the size of all the dozens of small open source libraries we use. This frequently outweighs the code we've written ourselves around 10:1. The boxes shrink to make room for bigger squares holding them up.
Imagine if we'd had to write those ourselves. Or pay someone else to do it. We would have spent ten times more on salaries than we've currently spent on development. It's often unclear that the company could ever be viable under those circumstances.

I have a short brown bag presentation I give at employers who aren't sufficiently enlightened about open source. I start by showing the amount of code we've written as a company - for a software start up, that might be on the order of 100k lines of code. I'll show a slide representing this amount of code as one or more boxes. I'll make some arm-waving equivalence between that, and the amount of $ revenue we earn from it, or the number of person hours it took us to write it.

right, but if someone getting fired, or even just promoted sideways, can result in a policy reversal, then that means *all* corporate promises are worthless right from day one. It doesn't matter whether some individual in the company *meant it*. It's systemically impossible for the company as a whole to stand by its word.

I just showed this to our 13 year old. They thought it was hilarious. Also it was a great excuse for us to pause and chat about things along the way, causing some very serious discussion, and some very frivolous. Much more so than most other movies. If we aren't allowed, or given opportunity like this, to have those discussions, then the next generations would grow up even more uninformed and oblivious than we already are.

It's funny to me that, for all the billions spent on tracking and analyzing advertisements and their effectiveness, they still haven't figured out that, while some people mostly kinda sit through adverts, there are whole swathes of other people who relentlessly stab at the mute and skip buttons, yelling "FUCK YOU! I anticipate this isn't going to be a popular answer, because it isn't new or expensive or high powered, but I've been using my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ daily for five years, and still love it. Lots of reading, web, comics, drawing in various apps using the pen that came with it. It has never had any slowness that I'm actually aware of, except perhaps it takes a minute if I have to reboot every few months.

Perhaps I'm naive but I assumed that usually this happens because one organically follows a lot of people out of enthusiasm, but then later one is unhappy about some aspect of their timeline, maybe simply the quantity of it, so they unfollow people to try any curate their own experience.

I'm getting into the structured concurrency primitive, asyncio.TaskGroup. Although overshadowed by the volume of other stuff in asyncio, the structured concurrency folks make a good case that it's the only way that async should be done. A delighted #Firefox user for what, 15 years? Maybe more? I've LOVED it every step of the way. Right up until the recent plain as day bad faith signalling from #Mozilla management. Slightly heartbroken to have to nope out, but I've made the jump. Just to a fork, for now. #LibreWolf is up and running, we'll see how that fares.
Took 5 minutes, what with installing extensions, a theme, and exporting/importing bookmarks & passwords. Did it over on four different machines. A chapter closed.
