My position is: PHP is excellent, and has been excellent for a very long time.
Open, easy and accessible to not just learn and read but tinker with, it's not a ridiculous quasi-proprietary labor-arbitrage exercise disguised as a toolchain that you need a contraption of a CI/CD pipeline to deploy and it works.
There might be better choices for professionals with green-field pro needs, but "one small, discoverable step up from HTML you can deploy right out of your VCS or editor"... that's a lot.

The LLM part is bad news but it isn't the sign. It's the talking about planning secession while simultaneously complaining that nobody new wants to learn, that's the sign.
Y'all the kernel is in deep, deep trouble. We saw what happened to Perl and the kernel is in deep trouble.

This is pretty cool - somebody retrofitted a boat with a hybrid drivetrain they pulled from a crashed Prius.
The implementation seems difficult - it's all custom work, obviously - but conceptually the idea makes a lot of sense.

I wish I'd internalized maybe 20 years earlier that the only way free software could be liberatory, rather than merely, selfishly libertarian, is if the goals became not to secure our own freedoms, but to grant them to other people. Today almost nobody can change the software they use, and as a measurable fact almost nobody who can the change software the use does. But even so: having those choices matters; securing the fact of them, evangelizing and defending that fact, matters.

... and I think frankly a lot of us forget that.
Some of us forget it pretty goddamn hard, so hard we give up on the whole idea of a we or an us and start getting delusions about genomes and politics. When literally the only special, exceptional thing about them is that they lucked into shelter and nutritional security for the first two decades of their lives, with enough left over that they could also have a computer at home at about the same time as they were learning to read.

I mean no disrespect to @npub1dhj…5qyd, who was clearly being sarcastic. Just that... in some total accounting of my life, most of my success has come from my parents having the resources and foresight to put an Apple ][c in front of me at just the right time of my life, at just the right time in the history of the computing industry.
It's just ton of work all the time to remember that if I've made good computing choices, it's because I had good choices to make, that I had choices at all.

My hard-won experience is that when Computer People like us say "does anyone still use these systems", the answer is _always_ "millions of Not-Computer People are locked into these systems via corporate mandates or enterprise contracts they despise and can never complain about because they have no say at all and pointing out how much these things suck the joy out of you just gets you fired."
It's easy to forget that for most people most of the time this is The Actual Experience Of Computer.

Mild culinary update, that the last batch of garlic-and-chiles fermented pickles really didn't retain that crispness I want, that snap you get from a really good sour dill pickle, but were still flavorful enough to make an excellent relish. If far too much of it, as usual. I have to figure out that crispness thing but I think it's time to switch back to kimchi with the fall coming up.

Few remember how hard we fought the wind in 1980s but every wind farm today is a testament to our rebuilding and rewinding efforts as we strive to rehabilitate the wind and restore it to its many natural habitats.

If you rely on Bitwarden, they've changed leadership and are now on the PE extract-and-exit track. Start working on your backup/exit strategy as soon as you reasonably can.
