"The report cites the experiences of 11 women, FBI records, and documents released through the Epstein Files Transparency Act. At least five women accused Trump of sexual assault in Epstein’s company, according to interviews conducted by the committee. Others said there were “apparent attempts” by Epstein and his longtime girlfriend and associate Ghislaine Maxwell to traffic them to the real estate magnate."

"I’d also like to point out the history of the Teamsters strike in the thirties—the general strike and the conspiracy charges that followed that—as something that we’re reliving in many ways. There were twenty[-nine] people brought up on conspiracy charges in the forties for what happened in the 1930s; these were all unionists who the federal government was trying to throw under the bus for Minneapolis becoming a union town, effectively. Again, when we see the federal government attacking labor organizers—eleven of the fifteen of us have been labor organizers; eight of us are current and very active—it’s very telling what they see as a threat, who it is they’re trying to make an example out of.
It’s people who are able to talk to other people, who are able to organize with their neighbors and coworkers and their friends and family. They are coming after us for our speech, for our power that we have together—not for any illegal acts that we did."

"Opponents of a proposed Google data center shut down a city council meeting in Hermantown, Minn., before it could begin Monday night, preventing councilors from voting on key permits.
Hermantown Police Chief Jim Crace declared the protest an unlawful and unsafe assembly approximately two hours later, giving everyone 10 minutes to get out of the building or face arrest.
Protesters, many wearing red “no data center” T-shirts, alternated between several chants, including “Let us speak!” and “Shut it down!” Several police officers guarded the doors to the room, restraining and shoving back a few people who initially approached the chambers."

"Chavez has not been charged, but the Trump administration has been more than willing to go beyond persecuting a journalist’s source. In his first term, Trump took the unprecedented step of prosecuting publisher Julian Assange for WikiLeaks’ publications, years after source Chelsea Manning had been convicted for their release. Earlier this year, the FBI raided the home of Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson, allegedly pursuing an Espionage Act investigation into one of her sources. Agents seized her devices, severing her ties with more than 1,000 other government contacts. Months later, the administration arrested Courtney Williams, an alleged source for investigative journalist Seth Harp’s expose The Fort Bragg Cartel, in a clear effort to attack Harp’s reporting.
Defending Rights & Dissent remains steadfastly opposed to any use of the Espionage Act where the government does not intend to prove the accused acted with the specific intent to damage U.S. national security.
Brinksman’s initial hearing was scheduled for today at 2:00pm in the Eastern District of Virginia. Defending Rights & Dissent will continue to cover his case as developments unfold, and we’ll continue to advocate for an end to the abusive use of the Espionage Act to punish whistleblowing, intimidate journalists, and undermine the public’s right to know."

"As a revolutionary pole in the disintegrating liberal order, what we offer to the mass movement must be more than a combative tactical repertoire. Rebellion will certainly be necessary, and we should encourage it and participate. But without revolutionary organization ready to usher in something new, "election riots" will be only the extravagant edge of protest, a more militant way to "make our voices heard." Instead, a dual power, with the active participation of hundreds of thousands, ideally millions, of people must be poised to take over where the warring elite factions fail. "

"The Folkston facility, owned by the notorious GEO Group, is already facing scrutiny over poor conditions. Earlier this month, roughly 500 people at the facility went on hunger strike, and organizers with the Shut Down Folkston Campaign say that 12 people are still maintaining the strike. It’s unclear if Sandoval was a participant.
Those on hunger strike say that they have faced torture, including solitary confinement and force feeding. They are protesting conditions at the facility as well as violations of asylum protocols, advocates have said."

“Human rights are Trans rights — we know that — but also workers’ rights are trans rights,” said JackieMae. “It’s crucial for Trans people, because we don’t get the same workers’ rights as everyone else does. Trans women make less than Trans men [and] cis women, and for Trans women of color, it is worse. [By unionizing], together we are stronger — that is the bare minimum of it. "Between 2002 and 2024, Texas sharply cut its major air pollutants — particularly from transportation, industry and the power generation sectors — even as the state’s population grew by millions and its economy roughly doubled, according to the report, which used federal and state agencies’ data on air emissions.
At least 288 data center projects are planned across the state, according to a recent Texas Tribune analysis. The scale of the projected data center build-out means that the sector’s future emissions trajectory now depends heavily on how electricity is supplied. According to the report’s modeling, emissions could plausibly range from a marginal increase to a reversal of two decades of progress in reducing air emissions."

"The attack on RDTW is not an exception but another all-too-common example of the state’s reification of all space as governable through police enforcement. The settler project is intimately bound with how space is organized, and any act that transgresses such rigidity is met with violent force. The heightened policing and criminalization of Black and Brown youth in the teen takeover movement further demonstrates this paradigm: conservative aldermen call for “snap curfews” and increased policing while they sell off public parks to Riot Fest and hassle people selling water outside, running off street musicians and unlicensed vendors; the cops even stopping people waving Mexican flags out their cars during Mexican Independence Day. Many of the same cops who attacked RDTW just days later brutalized and arrested people for simply drinking lemonade in public, nevermind the city salt trucks blocking protests off from ever going north of the river or outside Trump Tower. The space of downtown Chicago is reserved for the ostensibly white, masculine, capitalist class, while Black/Brown youth who righteously defy the city’s deep segregation are subjected to not only increased surveillance and violence, but also subjugated to liberal conceptions of morality which say they do not belong. In this the public space becomes legible as space defined through colonialism, genocide, ethnic cleansing, slavery, segregation, and of course the prisons, detention centers, and jails."

"Across Europe, there is new life in the streets. Across France, students are in revolt against a state that has abandoned them. Recently, this revolt has spread to Belgium, and there are early signs of it in Italy—now [Albania’s education ministry has caught fire], and it may go further still.
To break out of the pincer movement in which the progressive government and the CCOO and UGT have trapped us here in Spain, we must ensure that upcoming mobilizations, especially the general strike in November, do not turn out the way they want them to. The streets must not fall in line behind any government. Both our demands and our forms of action must outflank all of these actors from the left, placing them once again in an untenable position. We need to become unacceptable to the institutional left within the state apparatus once more. Otherwise, the window for mobilization that has opened up could close far too soon. The general strike must not become the end of this story, but only one additional chapter, one which we here must struggle to leap past and continue to push beyond."

Those agents would coordinate with nearby ICE offices, as well as with a central hub located in Washington, D.C.
The published plan doesn’t specify what these agents will do while in the field, but it does indicate that they will analyze classified and nonclassified information to create “network, link, and relationship” analyses. Such research examines not only a specific person, but also their connections — including members of their household, extended family members, friends, and even acquaintances."

"We are living under a fascist, authoritarian administration. It has not yet fully consolidated power. Some of its efforts to do so have been frustrated. Trump is a doddering, confused egomaniac who started an unpopular war that's costing everyday people a lot of money. His demagoguery doesn't work as well when people are paying high gas prices. The GOP is in bad shape ahead of the midterms. This is going to be a time of desperate Trumpian shenanigans because, as we are all aware, they don't believe in fair fights and never admit to losing anything.
Some people in this administration have been crossing lines, committing crimes, and making enemies with abandon, as though they would never again face a consequence. They never planned on losing power. Now, they are being confronted with that possibility. That means there are a lot of desperate moves ahead."

"After some initial hesitance, unions and nonprofit groups responded in force to the case. Days after the indictment, some labor groups signed onto a joint statement denouncing the charges. After a court filing from the defendants revealed the subpoenas of the unions’ financing, more labor organizations raised their voices.
“Generally speaking, the labor movement is awfully conservative — too conservative — on issues like this, and can sometimes be scared out of solidarity with people who are fighting back,” said Kieran Knutson, the president of CWA Local 7250 in Minneapolis.
More unions rallied, Knutson said, as it became clear that prosecutors could not point to examples of physical harm, as union locals pressured statewide organizations, and as the defendants themselves articulated why the case was important.
A broad coalition of labor groups including the state AFL-CIO endorsed an October 3 rally and march in support of the defendants, another sign that skepticism of the case has gone mainstream.
Hundreds of janitors, teachers, public employees, and hospitality workers joined the march, said Isaac Sant, a defendant and longtime labor organizer. He said seeing them on the streets was “humbling.”
Sant recently joined defendants from other cases with political overtones, including Prairieland, to form what they are dubbing the NSPM-7 Defendants Union.
“I can only speak for myself, but I don’t have any problem linking my case to the Prairieland cases. I think what happened to them was a travesty and a miscarriage of justice,” Sant said. “I think it’s very important that we stand in solidarity with people who are in that position, and especially with people who are getting railroaded even worse than we are.”

From Stop ICE:
"Community members in Salem Oregon confronted ICE agents at a gas station on Lancaster dr, Friday Oct 9.
The convoy of agents, who had been previously documented on stopice.net targeting workers at Home Depot’s, chasing vehicles on public roadways and attempting to intimidate legal observers in Washington, returned in Oregon earlier this week to lead a new surge in kidnappings targeting “sanctuary” cities in at least 12 states.
ICE leadership issued a verbal directive instructing agents nationwide to increase daily kidnappings by 1,000, bringing the target to 3,000 per day (or roughly 19,000 per week), according to CNN reports.
But people everywhere are tired and fed up with ICE terrorizing their community, terrorizing families and children. "

72 year old man shot a drunk off-duty ICE agent in Fresno, after the ICE agent, who had passed out in front of his house at 3:30 AM, attacked the 72 year-old man and his daughter, who had attempted to make the man leave their yard.
The 72 year-old shot the ICE agent in self-defense, and an off-duty police officer who was the boyfriend of the daughter arrested the ICE agent.

"On Wednesday afternoon, a protester locked themselves to moving construction machinery, according to a statement from activists. Border Patrol agents attempted to remove the protester with “extreme pain compliance” and pepper sprayed the surrounding crowd, the activists said. Protester continued to lock themselves down after construction came to a halt and construction crews left, the activists noted. “We do not intend to back down,” said Adriana, a Tierra Libre activist identified only by first name, in a statement on Wednesday. “Our resolve only grows with their violence.”
Jason, an activist from the Tierra Libre protest camp in Lochiel who declined to use his last name due to concerns over state repression, said roughly two dozen people have been arrested. Some received citations on the spot, and others were taken into custody and released onto the streets of Nogales or Tucson hours later, he noted."

Protests continue in #Vermont today, demanding the closure of a key piece of ICE's surveillance and tech infrastructure.
According to organizers of the ongoing 'Week of Action' against ICE in Vermont:
"Through the Law Enforcement Support Center on Harvest Lane and the National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center at White Cap Business Park, both located in Williston, VT, ICE collects tips on our immigrant neighbors, spies on civilian social media accounts, and builds lists of targets for kidnapping and deportation. These sites, as well as over a dozen other offices scattered around Chittenden County, provide the bureaucratic backbone and surveillance infrastructure for ICE activity nationwide."

"For more than 70 days, dozens of activists and an ancient cottonwood tree on the Arizona–Mexico border have successfully disrupted the construction of President Donald Trump’s ruinous $50 billion border wall.
Since July, one protester at a time has occupied the cottonwood, or the grandmother tree, as it is locally known. After three other cottonwoods in the area were torn down by government contractors, the remaining grandmother on the U.S. side of the border became the site of a growing protest camp in the remote town of Lochiel, Arizona, and neighboring Sonora, Mexico, where organizers gathered for more than a year to oppose the border wall’s construction.
On Monday, heavily armed federal agents moved in with force. Activists on the ground estimate that 150 Border Patrol officers — many of whom masked their faces — raided the encampment during the protesters’ morning prayer ceremony. At least 10 demonstrators were arrested, and the 200-year-old cottonwood was bulldozed."

"Advocates estimate at least 73 detained immigrants are participating in the hunger strike inside the Folkston D Ray James ICE processing center in south-east Georgia. The Folkston facility, a former state prison, is run by the private prison company GEO Group under a contract with ICE.
The hunger strike appears to transcend nationality, language and race, according to the detainees’ video, letter and report. The majority of the men who signed the letter are asylum seekers from a wide range of countries, including Russia, China, Sudan, Afghanistan, Nepal and others.
One of the lead organizers of the hunger strike, a Russian asylum seeker named Idris Makhmudov, has reportedly been placed in solitary confinement this week, according to Monica Whatley, an organizer in Georgia from the Campaign to Shut Down the Folkston ICE processing center.
The letter further reads: “We come from different countries, races, believes [sic], and background, but we share one thing in common: we came to the United States seeking protection and have been detained since then.”

"Fighting diasporic fascism is part and parcel of fighting fascism in its entirety, but it’s a part that requires special attention. The old, shrewd activist adage that, “Not all skin folk are kinfolk” bears upon this urgent task, in that certain community members—as a result of their material interests, indoctrination, or both—may never dispense with their fascistic politics, though that should never be a blanket justification for half-hearted community engagement. At the risk of stating the obvious, anti-fascist political education can only be effective in diasporic communities if carried out by and with aligned community members, some of whom might not already be politically active. It must draw upon their communal knowledge and sensitively navigate any cultural, ideological, or strategic differences while maintaining a principled line. Winning the war of position in these communities will further require multiple, interlinking counternarratives that challenge imperialist misinformation alongside skewed, manipulative identity-based claims made by reactionary communal elites. Anti-fascism is also a political floor rather than a ceiling: foundational but insufficient on its own. The United States will only stop incubating fascism, diasporic or otherwise, when its settler-colonial, capitalist, and imperialist cogs grind to a halt."

Peckels has been the subject of community complaints, including for punching a resident in the face during a traffic stop, making the records vital for oversight and their release clearly in the public interest.
The city’s response is beyond belief. "The 427-page document recommending “terrorist” designations for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and its Florida chapter was approved over the course of just 30 seconds at DeSantis’s cabinet meeting on Tuesday, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Contained within the approved packet, submitted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, were also recommendations for “antifa” and dozens of other groups already named as foreign terrorist organizations by the federal government to be listed as “terrorist” groups.
The ACLU and other legal partners have pledged to file a legal challenge against the designation on behalf of CAIR and CAIR-Florida, preventing it from going into place. ACLU counsel say that, at the meeting on Tuesday, they were barred from being able to present arguments against the designation, which they say was done simply because DeSantis and his Republican cabinet see CAIR as a “threat” because of its faith-based mission.
“Gov. DeSantis’s use of Florida’s dangerous new ‘terrorism’ designation regime against CAIR and its Florida chapter is baseless and unconstitutional,” said Hina Shamshi, who directs the ACLU’s National Security Project. “As the country’s leading Muslim civil rights group, CAIR is being targeted not because it poses a threat to public safety, but because doing so serves a political agenda at the expense of Floridians’ rights.”

"I’m sure there is a lot of becoming human going on at this conference, but it is not a good place for it. Indeed, my point at this point is that the evil conference center is emblematic of the problems we face, and maybe conferences are too. If we can all agree we need more becoming-human, then there need to be better formats and spaces more conducive to the kinds of connection and development we want to see. But this is—as anyone who has ever organized such a thing knows—very difficult. How to rebuild the socialist beer halls of the workers’ movement when beer and rent are so expensive? But the problems may also be cultural. Over the last decade, I have watched a continuing dominance of discourse in anarchist, communist, and socialist spaces by professional or semi-professional writers like myself, and a decline in writing by non-professionals. This leads to a situation where there are talkers and then listeners rather than talkers and listeners. Part of this has to do with a change in literacy and in habits of reading and writing in the age of smartphones and now artificial intelligence that must be addressed directly."

"ICE’s invasion of Chicago during Operation Midway Blitz sparked a range of organized community responses, from rapid response teams to fighting detentions at Broadview ICE Facility. In this interview, Heather, a teacher with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU), reflects on their organizing experiences during that wave of struggle. Drawing on their work in school and supporting a picket line in the Little Village neighborhood, they describe building and mobilizing sanctuary teams while connecting immigrant defense to worker struggle.
This ground-floor recollection shows self-organization in the face of fear, few options for durable collective infrastructure, and uncertainty as to what the deportation siege might bring. It practically outlines the importance of solidarity and connecting struggles across sectors and sites. As the leadership of ICE/Border Patrol continues to change, bringing a lower-key (and successful) tactical shift, we must revisit our approach. This interview provides insights to apply to future struggles against ICE, Border Patrol, and whatever other forms of domination capital and the State throws at us."

Three cases from 2021-22 that Cepar has worked on have yielded positive results, which he said free speech proponents must continue to fight for, lest they lose freedom of speech."

"The eviction of 87-year-old María del Carmen Abascal Martín in Madrid, after an investment fund bought her apartment building and more than tripled her rent, has become a symbol of Spain’s rising cost of living and sparked nationwide protests against corporate greed and wealth inequality. Over 600 protesters are now camped outside Madrid’s regional government headquarters demanding new tenant protections.
“What we have is a lot of furious people, enraged people, that are demanding from the government and from the public institutions that they give us give us some sort of solution,” says Sabina Carrau, a spokesperson for the Madrid Tenants’ Union, which is supporting the “Maricarmen decree” named after Abascal, set to be debated by Spain’s government this week."

The campaign is also demanding a path to citizenship or residency — permanent protected status — rather than a return to temporary status."
