Please don't share articles from "newspapers" that have pay/cookie walls. This includes the Guardian, most of the RW media, and reach newspapers. It's annoying to click on a link to find it's pay-walled or cookie-walled, and a great invasion of privacy.

I'm the same nowadays. I used to be so slim, and the worst thing is I'm diagnosed as being anorexic because I only eat tiny amounts just once a day. It's called starvation mode. Because I eat so little, my body stores fat (energy) and doesn't burn it off like it used to. 102 Kg I was weighed as at the hospital on Wednesday.

I stopped wearing my LBD as I got close to 50. I only have two items that I haven't worn for many years. Both full of sequins (one looks like liquid silver) and both size 14. So many memories that I can't bear to part with them even though I'll never get anywhere near a size 14 again.

Prospect, a UK right-wing union, just tried to pass a transphobic motion supporting the Supreme Court, that was heavily defeated by 65% to 35%. There then followed a series of trans supportive resolutions that all passed 80% - 20%. Made me LOL at the transphobes with the original motion.

One of the best things to do about rents is to have a massive council house build, with the right to buy being changed from three years to 25 years, or abolished altogether. Cheaper housing and lots of it will force landlords to either reduce rents or sell-up. The sell-off of council housing led to rents in the private sector jumping hugely.

Privatisation and underfunding is sucking the life out of our NHS. I live in Manchester and since 1980 the closures of hospitals has been enormous just within a few miles of here. Monsall Isolation Hospital (would have been perfect during Covid Pandemic). It is now housing, Booth Hall Childrens Hospital (saved my life in 1965), now housing. Crumpsall Hospital was absorbed into North Manchester General, and Delaunays Geriatric Hospital closed, Springfield Psychiatric hospital heavily downsized (Housing built on part of it). The latter two were also absorbed. Northern Hospital (Removed tonsils in 64 or 65), now replaced by houses. Jewish Victoria Hospital is now housing. Salford Royal Infirmary closed. Hope Hospital and Ladywell geriatric hospital merged, and ladywell was closed. Later changed its name to Salford Royal hospital, probably in the hope we would forget the infirmary with the same name. Ancoats Hospital closed and now housing. And the hospital I was born in, Withington, was first downgraded and now closed
All those hospital beds lost, all those doctors, nurses and other specialists lost. And they try to kid us that the NHS is doing OK. Bollocks!!!!

If the draft "Your Party" rules have protections for LGBT+ people, I would suggest some LGBT+ people apply for the regional Facilitator roles to get that extra protection for vulnerable minorities.

2025-09-16 12:50:37 UTC

Received this from "Your Party" to my inbox.
Dear Pam,
Today, we advance the process of founding our new party — one that belongs to its members, not to the establishment.
Britain’s political class is united. They pursue war and profit, while our lives get worse. For too long, the rich have set this country’s political agenda. Not any more.
Our party will take the power back.
Achieving this objective requires a mass democratic movement that meets people where they’re at, organises with them to build power in our communities and lays strong foundations to transform our country.
We can do this. But it’ll take all of us.
In the next two weeks, we will kick off the full founding process: opening our membership portal, initiating wide democratic debate and publishing draft versions of our four core founding documents — our Political Statement, Constitution, Rules, and Organisational Strategy. These documents will be drafts in the truest sense, ready to be edited and evolved. Members will be able to comment, suggest changes, and track how each document develops.
Alongside this online process, Your Party will host huge regional deliberative meetings where thousands of members come together to listen to each other, break bread and debate the founding documents face to face. From Norwich to Newcastle, we’ll foster a political culture of healthy discussion and disagreement, enabling thousands to weigh in with their ideas, questions and concerns.
In November, thousands of in-person founding conference delegates will be chosen by lottery to ensure a fair balance of gender, region, and background. These delegates will have a big responsibility – to debate the founding documents, propose amendments and vote on them at the conference. The final decision will be up to all members through an online, secure, one-member-one-vote system.
This process aims to combine the best of different democratic traditions: individual and collective views, in-person deliberation in assemblies, sortition to keep things fair and representative, and direct voting to give every member a final say.
And we want to go further. We know Your Party can - and must - be even bigger. Keep an eye on your inbox to get involved in The People Speak, a massive door knocking campaign to ask people what they want from a new party and inviting them to join in.
Timeline at a glance:
September: Membership opens, first draft documents published and regional assemblies start.
October: Assemblies continue, draft documents revised, online vote on party name.
November: Delegates selected, amendments submitted, founding conference takes place.
Finally, if you want to get more active in Your Party and help members take the lead then we need you to help run the regional assemblies. Sign up here to become a facilitator and help ensure we have fun, energising and inclusive conversations at these massive regional assemblies. We’ll be offering online training in advance.
Sign up to become a facilitator
Reject the drive to war. The rush to cut wages. The clamour to slash services. The attempts to divide us.
Fight for a different future: For your class and your community. This is your chance to be part of something new. Something different.
In Solidarity,
Your Party

The problem with the LINO party is that they are still working for big business and subsidising them with taxpayer money. If it needs a subsidy, it should be entirely in public hands as they pay the taxes. Imagine if we weren't subsidising business, we could put that money into the NHS, into schools, into council housing that shouldn't be sold off until it is no longer of use, into nurseries, care homes, even a few new-towns. They could be better spent on Adult education for all ages with proper apprenticeships and training and re-training. They could be spent on proper locally owned public transport that works with other modes of transport and is integrated. They could use it for our roads and decommission motorways for heavy vehicles and drive on-drive off rail services, similar to channel trains from out of towns to reduce fuel use.
There are so many ways that taxes could be spent better, rather than fluffing up big business who then give big wedges of cash to politicians.

Like it or not, Hamas were democratically elected. It was Fatah/PLO that abolished elections because they were afraid of losing the presidency too. But Israel and western countries make no distinction between the political wing and military defence wing of Hamas and that is shameful.

Looks like Zarah Sultana is now welcoming Mark Serotka to the new "Your party". He and his wife Ruth are both prominent terfs. Right, definitely out and I'm voting Green next election.

I already expected that as the party of No Hope. But campaigns could be Hope for the NHS, Hope for our Communities, Hope, for you see my point.

Well just got an email this morning asking me to put forward my suggestion of name and the reasons for doing so. I suggested Hope (aka Party of Hope). Because for starters, people are hoping this party will be different to others.

There is another problem. What miniscule gains we made in switching to renewals are now being discarded in favour of LLMs/AI which need an enormous amount of power and water for coolant. We are going to end up much worse off than before we started building renewables.

We need to do that in the UK. Lock up the various Friends of Israel, The JLC, CAA, JST, etc and the BoD.

English are a mongrel race and racists hate to be reminded that they themselves are descended from immigrants at some point in history. Even the "original" Britons came here across the land bridge from what is now Europe.

Mary-Anne Stephenson, the new chair of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, followed all these people before she deleted her account. See how many TERFs you know.

Brexit was more about simple racism. Lexit was more about being outside but with links inside. I have my own problems with the EU such as common fisheries policy which I believe should exclude factory ships, and a total moritorium for 5-10 years in order to allow fish numbers to rise again. I'm against Common Fisheries Policy where farmers are paid lots of money to NOT grow crops, and because of the lack of democracy caused by most decisions being made by the Council of ministers with the EU Parliament being nothing more than a talking shop. But I believe we are better in for our own protections now.
