One of the best things to do about rents is to have a massive council house build, with the right to buy being changed from three years to 25 years, or abolished altogether. Cheaper housing and lots of it will force landlords to either reduce rents or sell-up. The sell-off of council housing led to rents in the private sector jumping hugely.
