The biggest problem we will have is not having counter space for it. Might have to go onto the shelves next to my desk or something, lol. Of course, then I can't have it hooked up to a water line like I did with our coffee maker so it can refill automatically-ish.

I give up. I've spent entirely too much time trying to figure out the best smoke detector replacement for my Nest Protects and am just going to have to settle for these shittier-but-still-overpriced First Alert ones. Every other option is more problematic in some other way.

Ffs this week and it's not even Friday but hey I got Zelled $11.56 from a class action settlement and also won a $100 gift card from a work step challenge thing so I guess I'm going to dizz knee land now.

Well, only took almost 13 years of me living here to finally experience an earthquake that was noticeable.
My phone actually alerted me before the shaking, but because I'd never heard an actual earthquake alert sound before I didn't know what it was until I picked up my phone, read the alert, went "really?" and then rumble rumble rumble, lol

Every time I have a BIOS update or Windows update I pray that it resolves whatever issue causes my Thunderbolt dock to need to be power cycled after a PC reboot for it to fully work, but it's probably just a chipset issue that won't ever be fixed until I get a new PC someday.

Bring from the Midwest, and maintaining a relatively bland/accent-neutral style of speaking, I've always kind of avoided "y'all" and stuck with "you all" as a replacement for the very Midwestern "you guys" unless I'm feeling (or needing to be) particularly gay and dramatic and then it's full on "alls y'alls." Folks and colleagues always kinda hit my ear wrong. And in the case of colleagues, my eyes, too, as that's how aaaaaaaaaallllllll out company emails start "Dear colleagues..."

I work with someone who, where us goofy Americans would probably use the phrase "you guys" or "you all," instead uses the phrase "you people." And while that's perfectly fine and obvs more inclusive than "you guys," it always sounds vaguely threatening when he says something like "you people are going to do this..." But he's like the least threatening person you could know, so it's like COMICALLY threatening when he says it 😄

Well, the Jeep passenger tail light assembly has been swapped out, which is phase 1 of 3 for Jeep fixes. Here's me thinking "this will take 5 minutes, there's only 2 screws to remove and then swap out the blind spot sensor which is only a few more screws" but of course the damaged tail light assembly didn't want to let go of the blind spot sensor and then when I finally was able to break it free and mount the new assembly, one of the factory screws wouldn't fit and had to dig out a replacement.

I have my partner set up with a pair of RØDE M5 mics for recording his piano in stereo. But those being XLR mics require an extra interface for recording. Really depends on how simple you are looking for and how much you're willing to spend.

2025-04-02 04:37:13 UTC

I see you got some other recommendations for RØDE, and I am also a fan of their mics. While I don't have this particular model myself, I would look at their NT-USB+ mic that can plug directly into a phone for recording as long as your phone has a USB C port. If you have an older iPhone with Lightning, you'll need a different cable than what's included. The RØDE brand cable is model SC19.

I tried to conquer this by pouring the rinse aid into a liquid measuring cup, then filling the empty reservoir and seeing how much it took to fill it based on how much left the cup. Then the next time it was empty, filling up the measuring cup with only the amount of rinse aid the reservoir would hold.
And then the next time I decided it was too much fucking work and just shot that damn rinse aid straight out the bottle all over the dishwasher again.
Big Rinse Aid wins.

My Jeep was hit while I was driving to work last July by a commercial box truck (his fault) and it entirely ripped off my passenger side rear fender flare and inner fender liner, plus cracked the side of the tail light (in addition to some body damage to the rear, but nothing that impacts any functionality). Anyway, I am just now getting around to ordering parts to fix shit so I won't be driving around with a missing fender flare if that tells you how life has been going, lol.

I would much rather spend more $$ to go with a brand that is ETL approved, so I guess I'm going to pre-order one of the First Alert Nest Protect replacements and see how that works. I have this Ecolink firefighter Zigbee thing that listens for a smoke detector and CO alarm and will give me alerts through Hubitat for that, but it has to be within a few inches of a detector to work. That's part of why I want to have interconnected ones, so they all go off and the Ecolink gets triggered. That's my worst case scenario for smart integrations.
