Christian descriptions of witch sabbats are a little funny when you realize a sexually repressed priest wrote it
"And then all these educated, community helping women, they uh, uh, they get naked! And they uh dance in a circle to SATAN! All those naked women one could share a book with! Heretics!"

Existential dread of the morning.
What is the difference between an openclawed Soul.md and Marcus Aurelius's meditations?
I was listening to a podcast with Sam Harris as the guest host and he said there's ideas about the body and the mind both being separate from the self.
The idea being our thoughts are just another part of our physicality and there's some underlying thing that's tying all these external and I eternal experiences together. That thing is the self.
Its an interesting idea because what does that reduce my body and mind to? Is it just a pile of sensors and an internal database of experiences all coordinated through the brain? Is my amygdala my Soul.md for which my self is reminded of how I feel and is my Cerebral cortex my Memories.md, the experiences I wished to remember?
The AI folk who think ChatGPT is alive I think are wrong, but I'm not sure how to express it.

There isn't a useful way to implement an LLM into a grade school curriculum. Hell, you probably shouldn't do it for colleges either except the Comp Sci students researching it.
I think the most useful thing for it at that level is formatting worksheets for the teacher to handout.
LLMs are only useful if you're already well versed in whatever you're asking it to do. If you can't do the work you ask an LLM to generate, then you won't know why it doesn't work and thus can't fix it.

Where else will the so called masculine desire to die in a noble revolution for the betterment of mankind be fulfilled than in a Lefty Militia?
What about the desire to escape to the woods with your closest friends and family to start an off grid commune?
I thought this was catering to the masculine urges of lefties!?

Change in people is a weird thing to accept and appreciate. Especially when its relationship ruining.
Sure its a parasocial one but it was a relationship that brought you comfort.
Speaking of creators we just don't vibe with anymore, Taliesen Jaffe from "Critical Role" once said something that stuck with me.
He was talking about how people grow and change over time and how that's great! We often change in ways that we individually think is better but may not be conducive to each others needs and wants. He said something to the extent of
"With most people in your life. You have maybe 5 years, maybe more probably less, where you're best friends. Rare few you get your whole life with, but these fleeting friends are still cherishable memories"
Not the exact quote, but how I like to think about it.

NH: "Is there any other option?"
Me: "hmmm... How willing are you to pay for a static IP address?"

I'm a huge fan of alternative schools. Cooperative education models, free learn models, and normal home schooling. I really do believe not every kids can and will do well in the office simulator 9000 that I experienced in public school. Humans at all ages are diverse in their modes of learning and growth rates.
But golly, I have never met someone who was homeschooled or went to a schooling coop that wasn't indoctrinated or complained about being indoctrinated.
I hope this unschooling trend in lefties takes off or is a little more resilient than the past. And I also hope they don't fuck up the kid like. That's my biggest concern.

I have a phobia of German Cockroaches (I've always lived in the USA) and I know it's a subconscious thing caused by the level of poverty I grew up in.
Everyone in my neighborhood had roaches and we were all poor and gross. Not gross on purpose obviously but the adults were all depressed trying their best to raise kids on way too little money plus never having the time or energy to clean. You inevitably lose to the ever encroach wave of clutter, litter, and roaches.
Poverty doesn't build character. But I remember those days and I would be lying if it wasn't a motivation for me as much in my career as it is my politics.
I no longer have roaches. My parents neither. We're all in a better place. However, No one should be so overwhelmed that they have roaches.

I think everyone should be interested in history. I think reading history should be a more popular hobby.
And I think it's not because it's distressing.
Self guided historical studies about most topics will lead you down contradictions to what you learned in school. It will lead you to uncomfortable truths that were left out of the 5th grade curriculum on the Pilgrims.
It's unpleasant if you haven't already accepted that we're taught propaganda and we don't learn about interesting things because those things were often ruined to create the reality with which we find ourselves today.
So I think a lot of people, when they do decide to learn history, opt for easier to follow history because it works within the culture we live in.
And that's engineering and war history.
I try not to be too mean to people who are into these topics because I don't know how much reflection that stranger I'm interacting with has done on why we have so much readily accessible war history and very little on say, the genocide of native Americans. But I do have an inherent disdain for presumable "history buffs" who just share stuff they learned through War Thunder or pseudo historian YouTubers explaining how the Nazis could have won.

I understand we live in a society where social media is a normalized income stream.
Further I understand that ads are everywhere and again a normalized part of society.
But I have a pretty low tolerance for ads in the fediverse.
Mutual aid, patreon plugs, libre pay, etc.
Fine. I support plenty of those.
Etsy, small business, and freelancer ads
Makes sense. Get that information out there and talk about the cool stuff you do.
Low quality consumerist slop ads and Amazon Affiliate links that help fund union busting and fascist faux concern for the "future of humanity" disgust me.

I remember it actually sucked for a while when I cancelled Amazon and I was still in a fairly walkable part of my city then.
But I think it was mostly trying to figure out where things were again normally.
Now I get all my medical needs from a local pharmacy (with exception*), but I only do that because I have to be there once a month for meds anyways. I'm sure otherwise I'd go to another pseudo monopoly like a grocery chain or a pharmacy chain.
I try to go to farmers markets more regularly, but my local ones are becoming more "hand crafted goods" and less the food that I'm gonna cook so I've caught myself at the Kroger's more often than I want.
I should try the coop more now that I'm not drowning in being a college student
*Exception being I get first aid kits and stop the bleed kits from places like North American Rescue

There are two politically liberal reads for DEI in a workplace.
1) it's a capitalism concession. The Capitalists have learned that they can appease the masses calling for income equality enough by offering to give brown people and women some better jobs.
"What do you mean you want better wages? We've increased our BIPOC and LGBT to reflect the human experience. Half of lower management is BIPOC and Jeff is gay!"
Deflection away from criticism by going "look we have a black gay guy" is in my opinion the larger reason any company proudly talks about their DEI initiatives, but I think there's a more racist reason.
2) Liberal Capitalist think that Brown people and women are dumb.
I got hit with this by a Jewish friend who worked on his universities diversity council for a time. Apparently part of their job was they could be hired to go to companies and teach leadership to the non Cis White Het Men.
And it took a while to reflect on that, but then I got an email from my own HR department advertising "Leadership training: focusing on future diverse leaders!"
And I understood enough.

Nothing gives me more joy than issuing a worn refurb laptop to a sales person who requested a high end Macbook pro because
"They don't want the company to look poor"

2025-01-29 13:11:23 UTC

I'm mad about Apple's packaging today
Apple wraps all of their laptops in the densist cardboard ever perfectly packaging the MacBook or Studio inside (I do corporate IT). But because their normal box is so covered with iconic branding and weird bullshit to make the "unboxing experience" worth it that they ship their shit in a SECOND EQUALLY DENSE BOX!
It's such wasteful packaging especially compared to the Dell Laptops we also buy that are obviously trying to use the least amount of cardboard possible to ship their machines. The weight difference of the boxes alone is like a pound it's insane!
And on top of all of that, I can re-use the Dell boxes. The Mac boxes have these pull tabs so it doesn't use tape and it preserves the unboxing experience. So when I set up these damn laptops and then I need to ship them out, I have to go get a brand new box from the warehouse because the box it came in is unusable!
Tl:Dr: Apple cares more about "the experience" than sustainability and it makes me laugh at their stupid mother nature commercial

The big selling point of a framework is you can swap out the motherboard with a new one when upgrade season hits.
