I've been watching some episodes of "Ask Hank Anything" on Youtube on the last two weeks. I've been aware of @hankgreen.bsky.social for a long time, but this is the most I've every focused on this work.
I find him very relatable and the show can be very funny. Most importantly, I learn some very interesting but weird facts. I'm also learning about some other interesting social media personalities.

I have to say, that going into the game last night I was optimistic about the Timberwolves chances of winning one of the last two games and the series. But, I was totally convinced we wouldn't have a chance against the Spurs.
But after last nights performance, I'm starting to dream a little.

Two episodes into Dune Prophecy and I'm still undecided. However, I really think you need to give a series like this some time.
Some similar series take 5-6 episodes to hit full stream. So many characters to introduce and so much world building to do.
Don't like that the set the series 10,000 years prior to the movies. This seems like an absurd abmount of time. Think about how things have changed on earth in 10,000 years.
But, this is a minor quibble.

It's a cooperative game where players are defending against invaders. Mostly by trying to manage/restore damage before it reaches critical state.
First few plays were interesting, we have yet to succeed in defending our homeland. It feels like it might not hold up to repeated play, but others suggest otherwise.
I believe that each game is only about 20 minutes, so that is nice for a tiny game.

I can sign up to a feed that will give me only the most recent post of anyone I follow.
I'm always wondering if there I people that I follow, who only post at times of the day when I'm not active.
With this feed, I can quickly see something from everyone I follow who has been active in the last few days - and the really active people in my feed, won't drown them out.

BlueSky has tools to help you build a personal algorithm. I have only started to experiment with them, so I can't say if I like them yet.
But, I would like to get some new content in my feed introducing me to new people I don't necessarily follow. I would just prefer to have some control over that and have it driven by advertising.
I would also like to be able to limit it. Say 90% people I follow and 10% 'recommended' content on topics that interest me.

2024-11-19 18:24:04 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…7y6q
An algorithm is a formula for deciding what content you see. In my view, the algorithms on Facebook and Twitter are distorted and broken. They have bad algorithms.
On Mastodon, when I add a hashtag to my feed, or multiple hashtags, I am building my own algorithm. I am no longer just seeing content from people I follow. I am also getting new content on specific topics.
If I say, add the most "liked" content on boating to my feed, I am building a personal algorithm.

2024-11-19 11:21:12 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…7y6q I have no objections to algorithms, if I have control over the algorithm. I don't like algorithms that serve the purpose of the corporation over my own interests.

2024-11-18 10:19:29 UTC

@stpaultim.bsky.social
Yeah, I'm experimenting. There are things I like here in the Fediverse, but there are things I don't like at all.
Too many jopurnalists and academics that I would like to follow, have been chased out of the Fediverse.
We'll see where this all goes. I like the idea of a Fediverse, but there are too many people here that want to keep things here the way they were 5 years ago.

Personally, I'm inclined to say it's just bad.
I just don't buy that almost any of the characters would behave the way they do in this show.

@npub1ulm…ug75 the drone is over a weedy corner of the lake with land behind it. I am nearby on shore.

Something different today. A little power boat racing, from the air.

FYI:
I work with a team in Bangladesh. Apparently, things are a bit crazy there right now.
Bangladesh imposes curfew after dozens killed in anti-government protests
* Nationwide curfew
* Clashes between police and various student groups killed dozens of people
* Schools and universities have been closed indefinitely
* Authorities have cut mobile internet services nationwide
* The country plunged into a near-total internet shutdown

Just watched last weeks 'House of the Dragon.' Enjoying this series so much.
Have officially decided that I like to watch shows like this as they are released, so I don't binge them all in 1-2 days.
Watching over 8-10 weeks, rations the enjoyment out for greater impact.
Looking forward to watching the most recent episode tomorrow.

Nevermind #darktable friends. The problem seems to have been on inputting the image into Mastodon. The exported image was actually fine.

Same bridge as in photo from yesterday, but different angle. I love this bridge.
Had some great photos of this bridge in winter, but lost them in an unfortunate drone accident.

#darktable
Any ideas what is happening here, when I try to export an image and get this?
It's been happening a lot lately.
