scrolling on tiktok and I just got hit with psychic damage so.many.times in a one minute video:
Why is eTalk (Canadian entertainment news show) talking about AO3???
This host is so in the weeds on AO3 that she’s quoting from the status update (if you’re on tumblr too, I’m a big fan btw)
about a third of the way through the video, she pivots into “Black October” (aka the current cybersecurity nightmare caused by AI hacking)
almost immediately, there’s another pivot, this time to crypto and sports betting (as another victim of Black October)
back to AO3 as the hook to remind people to protect their online data
reminder of the cyberattack AO3 suffered in 2023
this is all timed to coincide with the US midterm elections??
end on a screen showing the link to the AO3 status page
I’ve been on rollercoasters with fewer twists and turns

Actually, there is an indie web ring/index of authors who self-host their own works! It’s the Fanfiction Webring !
You can find me at Drink More Tea ! Unfortunately, most of my works aren’t up there but I’m planning on putting more up over the weekend ^^’

Femslashfete is a dreamworks weekly one word prompt event for relationships between canonical female characters and all works have to be posted to dreamwidth, the next prompt should be up tomorrow around 2 pm eastern. (the current is fanatical).
Someone made a multifandom oneshot-athon, and it looks like they have a drabble-athon and a ficlet-athon open for fills but not prompts.
There’s a tokusatsu ficathon someone’s running
I know a few more non-time limit prompt events but I don’t think they count as ‘memes’
also you can find new fannish events almost every day over on the fandomcalendar comm

Permanent Dreamwidth kinkmemes that I, personally and specifically, want people to get into:
The Silmarillion Kinkmeme, silmkinkmeme on Dreamwidth (also has a tumblr @silmkinkmeme)
The Lost Boys (movie & musical) kinkmeme, santacarla_kink on Dreamwidth (I mod this one!)
Smubbles’ (a portmanteau of “smut” and “drabbles”, but they do not require works to be either of those) brand new panfandom kinkmeme, smubbles on Dreamwidth (and their main blog is @smubbles-etc)
There’s also plenty of writing communities you can find on the unofficial community promo comm under their “fandom - writing” tag, and they also a tag specifically for comms dedicated to fandom fests/fications and another one for kinkmemes, so if you’re looking for a specific fandom’s kinkmeme, that might be a good place to find it. (But not all kinkmemes are indexed there, so if you don’t see it there, you might also try asking around.)
NB that Dreamwidth has a captcha for all non-logged-in users to access the site rn, due to its servers being overwhelmed by LLM scraping spambots. It can be annoying, but it’s what it takes to keep the site usable for humans instead of exclusively a content farm for LLM scraper traffic.

I’m a big fan of the 100ships and 100femslash communities so definitely check them out, too. The premise for these prompt memes is to use their prompts to write 100 unique ships.
There is also 10trueloves for multishippers looking for something more bite sized
And finally, since it doesn’t seem like the rarest of rare pairs fic-a-thon is coming back for 2026, I’ve taken this as my sign to open a copycat prompt meme on my dreamwidth page

I know the account admins aren’t on the tech side of things that’s working towards repairs, but anyway I wanna say thank you so much for manning this account!! Cannot imagine how hard it must be to handle the influx of asks and questions and etc. etc. right now, I hope you’re doing well/taking breaks as needed :)
Thank you so much! (Also, sorry bc i'm going to use your ask to low-key answer some of the flood of questions in the inbox)
There is no Staff at the OTW. We are ALL volunteers.
There is not a mod team on tumblr (there are mod teams on the other socials tho!). On tumblr it is only I, Mod Remi. (Hi!)
The people working on the Fixing are being informed of all the well wishes and such - there are lovely threads of kudos/lovenotes for them to see when they take breaks
There is no way for folks to give money/snacks/coffee/etc to volunteers (we are all here for love of the game) - but if you Very Much want to express yourself via donations, the donations form is always open.
If you are wondering why I haven't reblogged a specific meme - a lot of times it is because there is an image with no description, and I very much to not have time to write them all myself.
Everyone is being so kind in the inbox and I appreciate it SO MUCH and I love you all okay? okay

I’ve got a Neocities! I started working on it last year, and it’s super fun tbh. Not only do I have all of my fics on there, but I also can cover it in all kinds of cool decorations I’ve both found and made >:3
For anyone who’s interested in giving it a shot, some fanfic-specific code templates people have made include Archive of Your Own, which is a filtering system made by Coyote, and Ao3 CSS, which is a pre-written stylesheet for Ao3 HTML downloads made by fan.kingdra (who also has other templates mainly for filtering systems as well)
EGGRAMEN also has a collection of CSS templates for sites in general, and W3Schools and MDN have lots of tutorials on HTML and CSS as well
But even if you’re not interested in making your own site, I highly encourage you to browse through Neocities and Nekoweb and click through the webrings people are in because there are a lot of cool sites out there. A lot of them even have resources pages of links to other cool places (like mine! Which is one part a collection of all the graphics I’ve made and one part links to sites I want to keep track of ^-^)

AO3 Down for Maintenance
ao3org:
ao3org:
ao3org:
ao3org:
AO3 is down for maintenance.
Refer to our status page for more information.
Posted: 07:34 UTC 29 October, 2026
AO3 maintenance is in progress. We expect it to take at least 12 hours, but it may take longer. We will provide updates as necessary.
Refer to our status page for more information.
Posted: 09:04 UTC 29 October, 2026
We estimate that service restoration for AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. If that does happen, there may be times when the site has to be brought down temporarily until this is fully resolved. Please stay tuned for further info.
Refer to our status page for more information.
Posted: 17:45 UTC 29 October, 2026
Earlier today, we detected evidence of a security incident on AO3. We are still in the early stages of response to this security incident and determining its scope. AO3 will remain down while we continue investigating and addressing what has been found so far. However, we want to make some things clear:
First, no AO3 data has been deleted. All your works, bookmarks, kudos, etc., are safe.
Second, while we currently don’t believe that the user database was stolen, we are also unable to rule it out. The AO3 database contains account information that may include your username, email address, IP address, and a hashed version of your password.
We use industry-standard techniques for storing passwords in a scrambled form that cannot easily be reversed. Even so, no hashing method can fully protect a weak or reused password from being cracked. As a precaution, we recommend that you change your passwords on any other sites where you use the same password as on AO3.
AO3 does not collect real names, so none could be exposed. Additionally, our donor information is held in an entirely separate system and is never linked to AO3, so that data has also not been exposed.
We will update everyone as our investigation continues; we may be unable to respond to individual inquiries from users. Please keep an eye on our official outlets for updates. Our next update will be posted when we have further information available.
Our current expectation is that AO3 will be down for a minimum of two weeks; however, it could take up to four weeks. During that time, we may be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state, meaning that not all features will be available and/or the site may be read-only. If we are able to do that, please be aware that we might have to bring the site back down unexpectedly as part of our recovery efforts. We will keep you in the loop for any developments

WELCOME TO THE AO3 SHUTDOWN FEST!
ao3shutdownfest:
With AO3 being down for 2-4 weeks, have you found yourself feeling adrift? Fearing a disconnect with your fellow fans and fandom? Well, I have a (possible) solution for you: JOIN THIS FEST!
GOAL: Being productive in these dark times, and hopefully having a BUNCH of fresh content to post on AO3 once the site is back up!
METHOD: If you are a creator (writer, artist, podficcer, moodboard creator, etc) then create as much postable content as possible! If you are a consumer (reader, viewer, listener, etc) then interact w/ creators’ works and be a cheerleader!
TIMELINE: This fest starts NOW (yes, NOW) and ends when the AO3 Shutdown is over!
For now, anything that’s considered “postable content” is something that can reasonably be one AO3 post (a one shot, a single chapter of a fic (pre-existing or not), a single piece of fanart, a single moodboard, etc).
Feel free to TAG @ao3shutdownfest AND THIS BLOG WILL REBLOG YOUR POST whether it be content from a creator or cheerleading from a consumer!
I’ll flesh stuff out some more later, and figure out the logistics of making an AO3 Collection (once the site is back up) and coordinating posting there so that hopefully AO3 doesn’t get overwhelmed, but for now, GO FORTH AND CREATE!
