I don't suggest using Apple products, but I will share this.
This hacker, Alyssa Anne Rosenzweig, from 2021 (and ending in 2025), as an Asahi Linux developer, reverse engineered the Apple GPU for the purpose of porting Linux to the Apple M1 processor. Kudos to her!
Then, satisfied, she stepped away from the Apple ecosystem (good choice!).

Same for me.
Just a static website, the only server it requires is a dumb HTTP server (it needs to be hosted, you can't just open the HTML file, but there is no server-side script) and, of course, Nostr relays.

The fact that there are people who are able to write in a language that uses the Latin/English alphabet but cannot write or even read cursive, or hardly can and regard cursive as "fancy" is an abomination.
Some of these people also write by hand. Writing by hand in print feels rather odd.

C++ is mostly a superset of C. Most valid C code is valid C++ (or can be converted to C++ with only minor modifications).
So whatever you say about C probably applies to C++ as well.

2026-08-02 03:27:25 UTC

In C, sometimes people discuss whether the * should go on the right or the left of the space when declaring a pointer.
I'm of the opinion it should absolutely go on the right, as that is consistent with all other declarations in C. In C, declaration mimics use. It's true you are declaring a variable of int* type, but the declaration should be based on how that is converted to int.
So:
int *a;
Good.
This is in contrast with, for example, D, where the type, simple or not, is on the left of the variable name. Declarations do *not* mimic use. So in D I write "int* a", although both C and D accept both syntaxes.
Now, C++ also has pointers, and of course I use the same syntax for declaring a pointer as I do in C.
C++ also has references, which are very similar, nearly the exact same, and possibly the same at the low level, but not actually the same concept in the language.
The fucking ampersand is used to declare a reference. This does not mimic use.
You cannot convert an int& variable back to int by using the & operator. The use of the ampersand is inconsistent with the rest of the style of the language.
So, if I use the syntax above for C/C++ pointers, with the * on the right side of the space, which should I use for references?
int& a;
or
int &a;
#programming #coding #c #cpp

This shit is useless until multiple NIP-05 identities are allowed.
This feature (multiple identities) has been discussed multiple times, is easy enough to implement, has compelling argument for it, none really against it and yet hasn't been embedded in NIP-05.
Currently, to have a pretty Fediverse username you'd have to renounce, for example, a proof of affiliation with your organization, or of ownership of your website. Or a Ditto account.
Amend NIP-05 already.

I don't know why Bill Gates is your example, considering he isn't leading Microsoft anymore and that Apple would have been a much better example than Microsoft.
That said, proprietary software developers aren't enslaving anyone, they are giving you a bad offer and it's your job to reject it.
If I offer you a bad deal and you accept, that's on you. I can offer to buy your hose for 1 euro. You can (and should) reject that offer.
There is at least one way proprietary software companies do "enslave" users: through education. Hence why I think education institutions, both public and private (but especially public) have a moral obligation (and should have a legal obligation) to reject proprietary software.

Quantum physics is unquestionably both real and incomplete (and probably at least partially incorrect), the scientific and engineering community has produced far too much evidence for it to not be "real".
The multi-world interpretation is also nowhere near close being the only one, nor the most prominent one among physicists.
There is also no such thing as a human playing with jumping from one quantum state to another. That's wowo nonsense. It has nothing to do with actual physics.

2026-04-01 04:59:27 UTC

Stuff like this has nothing whatsoever to do with quantum physics.
In fact, anything that doesn't involve hardcore mathematics and actual physical experiments has nothing to do with quantum physics.

In The Matrix humans aren't really simulated. They have physical bodies and physical brains, but spend their life connected to VR machines.
Usually those who hypothesize we are in a simulation mean the whole of our universe and the whole of us is running on some kind of computer and we don't exist in any physical sense in base reality.
The Matrix doesn't need to raise currently unanswerable questions about human consciousness, since human minds are still embedded in physical meaty human brains.

You can either create a derivative or something very sloppy.
We don't have a legal non-GPL Blender alternative, with the same level of functionality, and as good as it, do we?
Blender uses the GPL so that it stays free and open source software. Copyright is owned by contributors and this reassures everyone that the program will stay free.
Of course, you may point out the Blender Foundation is a non-profit, not a company and surely not a start-up. But, in most instances, software freedom is not the way to go when maximizing profit and hasn't been for decades.
When software freedom, not money, is the goal, free software licenses make sense. And while I'm not a huge fan of copyleft, sometimes the GPL makes sense.

The philosophy of Nostr and that of Bitcoin, however, are quite different.
In the case of Bitcoin, consistency is key, while with Nostr the philosophy is that each does what one wants. Bitcoin relies on economic incentives, while much of the Nostr ecosystem is maintained by volunteers who want to promote free speech, often even at an economical loss.
I have seen that post before.
Nostr events can be trivially collected, even across relays. One could make a dump of basically every reachable event. It would easily fit on a USB stick. That dump could then be uploaded through BitTorrent and, because Nostr events are signed, it would be the same as having all posts permanently on chain. So if that's unwise, so is Nostr.
You should assume someone will do this.
Nostr events aren't on a blockchain, but blockchains aren't the only way to store and share something permanently, as long as there is interest. Nostr messages, except for encrypted private ones, are publicly and permanently recorded as plaintext for everyone to see.
Now, I don't know if Satoshi here was talking about private messages or public posts (which can also be referred to as "messages"), such as Nostr notes. But assume public notes will be archived and forever provably associated to your public key.
I happen to see the archivability of Nostr as a feature.

So, now I too have the "verified" badge, on clients that support NIP-05, thanks to @npub1mha…9a4h (huge props and kudos!).
I think it's important to note what it actually means.
When a profile has a "verified" badge, it does NOT mean the user is genuine. It does NOT mean it's not a (spam)bot. It does NOT mean it's not an impostor.
The only thing it means is that the user has a (currently) valid NIP-05 internet identifier which can (currently) be used as a mnemonic shorthand to their public key. It's all it means, there is nothing else to it.
Whether an account has or doesn't have an identifier says nothing good or bad about it.
My NIP-05 identifier is now "aspie96@Nostr-Check.com" (in the future it might be tied to my own domain).
It's all the badge means.
