My approach is to dig through the LineageOS supported devices, find something supported that isn't ridiculously huge, and find it on eBay. Generally costs <$200. My current phone (Motorola Moto G7 Play) which I've had for a few years I got on eBay for $50 and it has better battery life than any phone I've ever had.

Discussing hypothetical "reasonable & ethical" LLM usage only feeds into slopaganda narratives and fundamentally misunderstands the problem. The only way some comparable technology might be "reasonable & ethical" is if the model was not Large, but then you're not talking about a Large Language Model.

This tracks with my interactions with slop lovers. It's not just that the slop generators suck, but the kind of people who think that the slop generators are great are also the kind of people who love taking lazy, ill conceived shortcuts. So the sloperators frequently tell the slop machines to do things that shouldn't be done in the first place, then the slop machines do the bad thing badly, and the result is an ever growing cascade of fractal dog vomit.

For a while I've been thinking about the Gaza genocide as Israel doing murder-suicide. The last few days feel like they're really leaning hard into the suicide part now. I don't think they can survive a war with Iran. They're high on their own impunity. They've faced scrappy guerilla resistance and postcolonial states dependent on foreign arms. Iran engineered and builds its own arms and has 8.5x the population of Israel. They're hitting Tel Aviv with success.
