But also...as long as I'm alive I will carry Hampshire with me. The school might be closing, but it leaves behind fifty years of alumni. The living legacy of Hampshire that both refuses to conform and refuses to live in fear of others. That knows - to know is not enough. We'll carry Hampshire with us and maybe, someday, build a new Hampshire.
(Which should definitely be called New Hampshire College. That won't be confusing at all.)
In the meantime...thank you, Hampshire College. You weren't perfect, but you were what I needed: an institution and a community that accepted me and supported me for who I am. You will be deeply deeply missed.
