I'm going to say it, I don't think that ANY woman in Britain (or anywhere else for that matter) should be wearing a niqab. I live in a small rural town with a growing Muslim population, and seeing these veiled women irks me on so many levels. It's divisive, I find it hostile, it's quite intimidating. Watching these women walk several steps behind their men is just so weird, this is so out of place. I admire what Kellie -Jay Keen is doing, I'm not sure it's wise, but if people don't speak out about this then who will? I used to be in the "Oh some women choose the veil" camp, I know women who equate it with Christian women becoming nuns. IT'S NOT THE SAME THING. I agree with Kellie, women in Afghanistan have no fucking choice, and anyone who veils themselves as a two fingers up to the UK should not be here, and it is totally betraying those women who are in a massive depression because their life is so controlled. There's a mosque or Muslim centre where I live, but no provision for women.
This madness needs to end....
