graphic interfaces were an innovation. it's about concepts being new, not the parts they are made of.
language concepts are really old by now. nothing new in my lifetime, just better refined versions. doesn't mean there aren't good new ones, they just aren't innovations. most things that are good now aren't innovations, like modern fridges, but they are optimized to the limits of what works well (economically & physically).
