It is illogical. But I do know that many people feels vindicated and relieved because the diagnosis enables extra help and hope of understanding from their surroundings. The fact that medicine often alleviates symptoms, also indicate that something biological (even if the exact mechanism isn't understood yet) is at play rather than just having morally "bad" personality traits, which is something these people has had to struggle with on top of their symptoms.
