I think our brains are barely able to wrap around the paranoid idea that we might be overheard or spied on, or have our private mail read or be eavesdropped upon from a bug in our home or phone, or stalked by someone who wants to hurt us.
We are not prepared for the new circumstance of datamining automatically and scanning at scale for the purposes of a larger evil having nothing to do with us personally. We are being farmed and harvested much like the nature that we have always destroyed.
