Have a friend who dabbles with music (strictly amateur level though). Love his whoSampledWho deep dives, currently on the wave of How Much Is the Fish, latest take by dArtagnan which is ironically closer to the original than the Scooter version. The specific researchers are Nikolaos Papadis and Leandros Tassiulas, both affiliated with Yale University in the paper. Their work is “Deep Reinforcement Learning-based Rebalancing Policies for Profit Maximization of Relay Nodes in Payment Channel Networks”, first posted in October 2022. They model a relay node with two channels and an on-chain reserve. Payments arrive unpredictably from either direction. At regular decision points, the node chooses whether to perform a submarine swap into or out of each channel, and how much to move. Swaps incur fees and take time, during which payments continue arriving. Their question is: when does paying to restore liquidity earn more in subsequent routing revenue than the intervention costs? The Markov decision process describes that problem; reinforcement learning supplies an approximate solution. Their policy, RebEL—“Rebalancing Enabled by Learning”—uses the Soft Actor-Critic algorithm to learn decisions from simulated experience. They compare it with balance-threshold rules and a demand-based policy that favours large, infrequent swaps. RebEL performs better under most of their tested conditions. Met a book booth in the middle of the walk, checked inside and there were, among other things, a few paperbacks of Perry Rhodan. Took a few for a walk and explained to friends how rich and vast the story is, despite the run of the mill quality. Yeah, there is a reason why my head has problems remembering things - there isn't enough room next to the arcane knowledge of the obscure...

Someone I met at a meetup a while back just messaged me to ask if he should trade all his bitcoin for gold because he thinks “super intelligence” might steal his keys.
