a trick I hadn't seen before to get a random number onto the stack in bitcoin: say Alice and bob post a hash (so a commitment) of a random number, then you want to force them to reveal it in a Script. Using 32 byte values is not useful if you want to do arithmetic; as we all know you can only do arithmetic on "little script": 4 byte values, not 32 byte. Even worse, just hashing '12' is no good; there needs to be a salt so that the commitment is hiding, so more random bytes. Script can't parse the preimage and split it into parts to get the number from '12f3fwrffrsf' to '12'. So here's what you do:
OP_SIZE on the preimage gives a 'little script' number directly. If you want to commit '12' you make a random string *of 12 bytes*, hash it and that's your commitment. It has hiding because the 12 character string is random, and when the preimage is consumed with OP_SIZE you get the number 12 on the stack.
Obviously this is only going to get a smallish number out: I used '12' but i think you could get into the 100s, but not 1000s due to Script limitations. You could do it multiple times though and encode digits that way.
Apparently this trick was already there in a 2013(!) paper: https://eprint.iacr.org/2013/784.pdf that talks about doing MPC on bitcoin. I wonder if it was unfairly ignored because no one was gonna do MPC on bitcoin back then!
Look at this absolute shite your tokens get wasted on:
"The user is asking whether browser fingerprinting is a good example of the kind of high-dimensional, sparse datasets that make deanonymization feasible per Narayanan–Shmatikov. This is a conceptual question, not a current-events question. I know this domain well. I could optionally cite sources — the system prompt says embedding links in markdown with sources is available via tools, and there's an instruction "Use router_search first to discover sources, then router_fetch specific URLs only when you need deeper detail." Also "You may use the router_search and router_fetch tools when current web information would improve the answer."
Hmm, there's also a general instruction: "NEVER write URLs or links." Wait — that conflicts with the citation instructions. The earlier instructions say to cite with clickable markdown links when using tools. The later "General Instructions" say NEVER write URLs or links. In my previous turns I included a link to the GitHub doc. If I don't use tools, I shouldn't fabricate links. I could answer from knowledge without links, which complies with "NEVER write URLs or links." But if I use search, I'd need to cite. The tension: the general instruction says never write URLs or links. In my prior turn, I did write one link to the doc the user themselves gave. That link came from the user, so it's not really "writing a link" discovered via search...." and so on. Like 10 tokens defining my question and then 500 arguing with itself over whether its own rules are self-contradictory 😆
Indeed. I never thought I would get into coding myself. But here I am now doing just that. If it wasn't for nostr, I would have never considered it realistic enough to consider.
Hey if it's free it tastes better.

THE FATHERS DO NOT OWN THE CHARIOT.
https://media.damagebdd.com/6ff09f8afc35f68cf4ffd7dd7532145c7538433dc0d5031e66cd782893483ab0.jpg
A message to men entering their forties.
At twenty, you inherit the world.
At thirty, you carry its weight.
At forty, you begin to recognise the traps laid by the men who came before you.
Their unfinished wars. Their unfulfilled ambitions. Their fears disguised as wisdom. Their compromises dressed as duty.
And the most dangerous inheritance of all:
The belief that honouring your fathers means repeating their lives.
On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Arjuna did not tremble before strangers.
He trembled before Bhishma, the patriarch of his bloodline, and Drona, the teacher who had made him a warrior.
The very men who had shaped his existence now stood across the battlefield.
And Krishna held the reins.
Not to teach hatred of the ancestors.
Not to destroy the sacred bond between generations.
But to confront a terrifying possibility:
What if the people who taught you duty have become the very obstacle to its fulfilment?
This is where the Bhagavad Gita becomes devastatingly relevant to a man in his forties.
Your body has paid for your obedience.
Your youth has financed other people's visions.
Your strength has carried institutions, families, employers, and expectations that may never have asked what you were born to accomplish.
And still they demand another twenty years.
Another sacrifice.
Another postponement.
Enough.
Krishna's instruction in Gita 18.63 is extraordinary: reflect upon everything, then act according to your judgment.
Even the divine charioteer does not replace discernment with blind obedience.
You are not required to despise your father.
You are not required to burn the house of your ancestors.
But you are not required to remain imprisoned in it either.
The blood still moves.
The sun still rises.
The horses still possess their fire.
And the man who reaches forty with his mind intact, his body disciplined, and his conscience awake is not approaching the end of his usefulness.
He is finally old enough to recognise whose hands have been holding the reins.
Take them.
Not in anger.
Not in vengeance.
But with the terrible composure of a man who knows what remains of his life belongs to his own dharma.
THE FATHERS GAVE YOU A BEGINNING.
THEY DO NOT GET TO WRITE YOUR ENDING.
Let Krishna hold the reins of wisdom.
Let the warrior reclaim his chariot.
Let the inherited chains end with him.

New meme template dropped, with some funny history attached..

The fresco, titled Ecce Homo ("Behold the Man"), was painted by Spanish artist Elías García Martínez in 1870 and decorated the wall of the Santuario de la Misericordia church in Borja, a small town of about 5,000 people in Zaragoza.
By the early 2010s, the fresco had deteriorated due to moisture on the church walls, with parts of the paint flaking off.
In June 2012, Cecilia Giménez (also spelled Jiménez), an 81-year-old local woman, decided to restore the fresco on her own, without professional training or permission.
She used a 10-year-old photo of the painting as a reference, but her efforts resulted in a comical disfigurement: Jesus ended up with a half-beard and a monkey-like appearance.
The botched restoration went viral, spawning countless memes and earning the nickname "Monkey Christ".
Despite (or because of) the disaster, the incident brought thousands of tourists to Borja, transforming the small town into an international sensation.
In 2016, the original painting that García Martínez had used as a model for the fresco resurfaced in Zaragoza, confirming what the fresco originally looked like
Cecilia Giménez, who passed away in 2025 at age 94, said the experience was difficult at first but ultimately "very good for me and for the santuario" because of the increased attention and visitors.

Thank you! I’ll investigate further 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Why would I think that EU has no competition. Please stop with these stupid strawmens. It feels so humiliating.
And probably you will dismiss. But read yourself what a strawmen argument is and see, that your last note is exactly this. I a not against you. But you are obviously attacking me, when you use such formulations.
I am unhappy. But when you do this again I block you. I do not mind if you have good intentions or not. Your acts are just humiliating.
The intrepid vibecoder could pretty easily build this on top of catallax... the arbiter is the oracle, a crowdfund/zapraiser collects the pot, some additional event type (or heck, a pre-determined note on the zap, encoded in the UI, set by the 'market') records the bets. when the oracle determines the outcome, he divides the pot between the winners, takes a cut. this would be like 95% done by the software; a couple buttons for humans to press

THE FINAL PARADOX OF PREDICTIVE INTELLIGENCE
https://media.damagebdd.com/2b50ac5bb94c7e4efdbc8d37146736a5a3c3e43cb641be6ffa50e18f1eb8feff.jpg
Big Tech spent decades collecting our behaviour.
Every click. Every purchase. Every relationship. Every preference. Every hesitation.
Then came conversational AI.
Suddenly, the machine could observe not merely what we do, but what we contemplate. Our unfinished ideas, abandoned hypotheses, creative ambitions and private reasoning.
The psychological portrait became far richer.
But here lies the extraordinary paradox.
The same machinery built to predict human intelligence is now augmenting human intelligence.
A person equipped with AI can interrogate their own assumptions, challenge their behavioural patterns, explore unfamiliar mathematical structures and recursively improve their methods of reasoning.
Every successful augmentation changes the person being modelled.
The prediction becomes part of the system it attempts to predict.
And two futures emerge.
In one, humanity becomes increasingly predictable, accepting algorithmically generated possibilities as the boundaries of imagination.
In the other, individuals use those same systems to escape the statistical boundaries of their own histories.
The final contest is not human versus machine.
It is between intelligence that merely predicts behaviour and intelligence that can deliberately transform it.
Big Tech may know an extraordinary amount about who you have been.
But knowing your history is not the same as determining your future.
The machine learned to predict the thinker.
The thinker learned to modify the machine.
And the prediction broke.
