🚨 PSA for anyone running a Linux server, node, or relay
CVE-2026-98432 is a critical Linux kernel bug (CVSS 9.8). Someone on the internet can send crafted TCP packets and take over your machine. No login needed.
Ubuntu and Red Hat haven't shipped a fixed kernel yet. Debian, SUSE, Oracle and Amazon have.
What to do today:
1. Check your kernel: uname -r
Fixed versions: 6.1.190+, 6.6.159+, 6.12.113+, 6.18.56+, 7.2.10+ or 7.3+. Below that, you're exposed.
2. If your distro has a fix, update and reboot.
3. If not, block the attack. It needs TCP packets with "IP options," which normal traffic never uses. One nftables rule drops them. Log what gets dropped so you can see if someone's probing you.
4. Turn off MPTCP unless you need it:
sysctl -w net.mptcp.enabled=0
Programs built with Go 1.24+ use MPTCP automatically, and that's how the known exploit gets in.
5. Make it survive a reboot, and check it still works after one.
If you run a Bitcoin node, a Lightning node or a Nostr relay, your machine is on the internet by design. Do this today.
Self-hosting is freedom. Patching is part of the job. 🛡️

Fresh off the presses: I wrote a new personal relay implementation that will fix nostr.
Instead of syncing notes from your web of trust (expensive, no one is looking for them there) or blasting notes to the network (pointless, borderline abusive), it looks for your outbox relays and fetches your notes from them. This means that after years of home relay fragmentation you can finally get all your notes in one place. Even better, if you run two instances they will actively copy your notes between them without any configuration other than a normal 10002.
Use the outbox model. It works.

How to Judge a Fat Bear
1) Neck. A champion Fat Bear doesn't have one. A neck implies a distinction between head and body, and we want one continuous situation. If you can point at a neck, that bear is not a winner.
2) Belly clearance. Measure the gap between the belly and the ground while standing. Zero is ideal. Negative is legendary. We want the bear to look like it is resting on its own belly like a beanbag.
3) June to September Glow Up. The greater the transformation, the higher the score. Anyone can be fat. Not everyone can become fat this quickly with this much commitment.
4) Fluff FakeOut. Some bears are just coat. Look for jiggle on the walk, a genuine wobble that continues briefly after the bear has stopped. Fluff does not wobble.
5) Vibes. If a bear looks athletic, wrong contest. We want confidence, a smugness that can only come from gorging itself with 40 salmon before lunch. It must barely be able to walk and also look so proud of itself as it trudges.

HuggingFace just passed $1,000,000 in sales for Microduck, which uses Nostr.
How does Microduck use Nostr? Essentially "invisible plumbing".
Microduck is Hugging Face's new $399 open-source biped duck robot (announced yesterday). Its multiplayer ghost feature, where you race/share sessions with other people's robots or sims, runs on Trystero, a serverless WebRTC library. Trystero needs a signaling network to do peer discovery without running servers, and it uses Nostr public relays.
It's the social media for introverts. I like it because no one will see my posts or use the apps I vibe.

GM bitchez. I've been busy. I started a nonprofit meant to preserve independent music recorded in my town.
I started ripping CDs from a local collection held at Humboldt Hot Air and thought, this shit needs to be preserved.
So I developed a plan. And even a manual. And I got permission from several bands to stream their music on my website humboldtmusicarchive.org
Only 37 albums up so far. Of which, I was able to glean about 20 emails. Surprisingly, only 4 of those were bunk. 5 responded already!
Someone heard about what I was doing and sent me a thumbdrive of >35GB of predigitized Humboldt music going back to the 80s. 💪
I know I shared the website before. But I was just messing around then. I now only stream by permission and have a rights policy. Lol. This shit's serious all-a-sudden.
