What Mastodon app are you all using?

2026-04-06 19:47:26 UTC

Switched over to the official Mastodon app. Openvibe hasn’t been working and I’m not going to bother with BlueSky anymore. It’s improved some I used it.

I'm mostly going case less with the 17 Pro but did give the Apple Silicone a test, it hasn't got better at not picking up pocket crud then. Setting up return.

I miss the time when technology was fun
I was looking at my RSS feed, the usual larger tech feeds and I really miss the days when I enjoyed catching up with the technology news. When we got excited for leaks of new hardware or the hundreds of apps pouring onto the store in the early days of the App Store. Nowadays I see posts about one of the many narcissists running things, AI and bit coin - it’s become a very negative space (for me).

A week with the Casio G-Shock 6900
For this past week I’ve only been using the G-Shock 6900. It’s a watch I’ve never previously owned and having worn the traditional square design I wanted to give it a test. It’s been a mixed bag. I like the design and ease of use but it’s too thick for me. It was comfortable in general but the bulk was getting caught on sleeves and I was always aware of wearing a watch.

No, I didn’t preorder a Nintendo Switch 2
I’m seeing a lot of folks, I mean like 80% of the people I know or follow preordering a Nintendo Switch 2. I’m feeling a little left out and was previously focussed purely on the fact that I cannot currently afford to buy one so didn’t even attempt to preorder. But what I’ve also realised is on a mini break this week I took my Switch and turned it on exactly once.

Whoever is in charge of colour at Apple needs to own an Orange iPod Shuffle
On my clear out journey I came across another iPod! the more I look the more I find! this time it's the turn of the iPod Shuffle 1GB in an outstanding orange colour. This got me thinking back to when Apple did great colours on their devices, if this orange was on an iPhone regardless of the model it would be a must buy for me. (I will say that the iPhone 16 gives me some hope, check out that…

Using filters in Reeder to make my RSS less negative
I know I can’t ignore what’s happening in the world completely but I recently realised my RSS feed had become more negative especially in the tech space. I didn’t want to move apps or to something else because I mostly enjoy my feeds. The good news is if like me you use Reeder you can add a filtered timeline. Just hit the + in the top right and then…

Posting from a single source
I’m struggling to keep up with posting across apps, I’m going to stick with the blog as being my source. I’ve deleted social apps from my iPhone and Mac, one to take a break but also to make things better for myself and the content here. For one I’m not seeing things I don’t want to, at times where I don’t want to.

Apple brings visual intelligence to the iPhone 15 Pro
I’ve been struggling lately with the camera shutter on the action button. I don’t know what’s changed but I’m finding that I’m taking a lot of accidental pictures. On looking at changing it to something else I realised that the latest iOS update brings visual intelligence to these older models. Given this is Apple we are talking about I’m sceptical it’ll work but I have used Google Lens in the past and found it…

Apple Intelligence continues to struggle with the basics
I’ve been using my iPhone and Mac without Apple Intelligence but I wanted to do some more testing so re-enabled it. I wanted to pop out for a walk so I asked it the above basic question. You’d think me asking an assistant what the weather is like in the afternoon would be basic. But nope Siri failed miserably at the basics.

iPhone 13 Mini As much as I try I still can’t use a modern iPhone one handed, it’s got me thinking have we given up trying? Using the iPhone 15 Pro one handed doesn’t work. My palm creates mistakes and added typing, I always almost drop it when I’m out and I end up giving up and using with two hands.

Bluesky? Mastodon? get your own blog instead
I’ve been thinking about this sudden rush to Bluesky and I have started to use it a little more but I keep coming down to the mindset you could just get your own blog instead. With more and more pulls to attention and places to post starting in a central place then propagate is the way to go for me at least.

I haven’t used the steamdeck to its full potential
I was super excited to finally pick up the steamdeck last year but after setting it up again it’s sat back in its case and I’m wondering what to do with it. I know it has potential, I can use it as a desktop machine, I can retro game and play cloud services but I’m just not. I’m a creature of habit that doesn’t get out much, I’m falling back on using my Xbox or PlayStation with the TV rather than picking up a portable.

I’ve already written about my love for the Casio F-91w but I’ve just put it back on and it’s a watch I go back to when I want to pair things down. I don’t worry about losing it, I stop worrying about my surroundings if I’m in a place I don’t know, it’s so light and comfortable and most importantly it does everything I need in a watch.
