Describe myself? Why? Who I am is irrelevant to who you’ll believe me to be.

I can tell you I’m a straight, multiracial, multiethnic man who supports women’s, LGBTQ, and trans rights. I believe Asian lives, Black lives, and your life matters too. I believe in an independent Israel and Palestine. I believe Taiwan and China are separate, independent nations.

But what can’t I do? Grow a silver tongue and convince you better than trolls who think they know everything. Believe whatever. I am me.

Let's take a moment to explore the concept of my block list.
"Billy Bob" is like:
> "I like child porn and share photos and videos of child porn."
So naturally, Billy Bob ends up on the block list. But along comes "Mary Sue," and she is like:
> "I support Billy Bob, and I am going to like, share, and boost Billy Bob's post."
So naturally, Mary Sue ends up on the block list. Then along comes "John Doe," and he is like:
> "It is completely unfair of you to add Mary Sue to your block list! Mary Sue is not Billy Bob — and so what if she is liking, sharing, and boosting Billy Bob's child porn post? I do not believe anyone should use your block list, and I insist that people should block you instead."
A wise person sees the problem and knows why all of these people are now on the block list, and why anyone who claims the block list is unfair should also be on the block list. No one should be defending child porn, nor the individuals who like, share, and boost child porn posts, nor should they come to the defense of such individuals while denouncing both the block list and its creator.
I am applying this exact same logic to spammers and scammers. It is not a hard concept to understand, and it is not unfair either — unless you are pro-spammer and pro-scammer.
(Speaking personally, I see scammers as just as bad as pedophiles, because they too often prey upon the weak, vulnerable, and defenseless. Scammers are known to target the young, the elderly, and the disabled.)

Supposedly there is a RAM shortage, but oddly, RAM prices seemed reasonable where I looked. However, storage prices were insane.
Just one of those moments when my world feels inverted and completely indifferent compared to everyone else.

I am pro-women's rights, even though I am a man.
I am pro-LGBTQ+ rights, even though I am straight.
I am pro-trans rights, even though I identify with my birth gender.
You do not need to be part of a group to support people who are different from yourself. It is simply called being a human being — having genuine empathy, sympathy, compassion, understanding, and tolerance. If everyone practiced this, the world would be a better place.

The End of the Fediverse
It all comes down to money and availability.
You, whether you like it or not, are a valuable resource, and so is all your content and your users' content. There is no law preventing AI from combing through your site, and it will.
Meta's AI already makes micro-instances and uses Mozilla Firefox to browse sites, preventing people from blocking a user agent. Their AI can even register and join your community, and CAPTCHAs are not a problem. They are already exploring piggybacking off their apps — think Tor, but for Meta — and soon even consumer IPs will not be a safe bet.
Resistance is futile.
Locking down the Fediverse means people cannot know if your community is one where they will be welcomed until after they join — assuming you even have registration open.
If worse comes to worse, AI can simply launch their own Fedi site, joining the network, and scraping content by Federating. The very thing that makes the Fediverse, the Fediverse..
This is what killed community forums. We are seeing this now within the Fediverse.
It all came down to money and availability: who has it and who does not.

1,259 accounts identified as participating in spam and scam activity — along with accounts that actively promote, defend, or amplify them.
Removing the harmful AI accounts, spam users, and scammers really does make the Fedi seem better.

Do you want freedom of speech without hate speech?
Do you want the freedom to post and share factual information that can be backed by reliable news and credible evidence?
Do you want an administrator who ignores, perhaps even laughs at, the dogpile nonces?
If you answered yes to all the above, you want a Misskey or Mastodon site in Asia.
Speaking as an American, you would think a site in North America or Europe would be suitable, but unfortunately, many of the sites in North America and Europe adopt the policy of freedom to agree with their worldview, and nothing more.
The truth is, if you really want true freedom of expression and freedom of speech without hate speech, it is in Asia. As long as you remain polite and respectful and do not intentionally spread misinformation, you will be welcome.

Me? Hiding? Not a chance.
I couldn't hide even if I tried, because members of a scam group called "Gaza Verified" have already DOXed me twice (2x). They published my full name, home address, phone number, and email. They are also the ones sending me death threats and trying to ruin my reputation.
Instead of letting them bully me into silence, I decided to stand my ground. Yes, my name is Adam Howard, and I live in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Anyone can easily find me on Google. I've even shared my voting ballot to prove my progressive record. I am not hiding, I am not anonymous, and I always use the same screen name — Linux or LinuxBSD, depending on availability.
Now they are accusing me of "ban evasion." That is ridiculous. Participating on a decentralized network is not avoiding a ban. If that were true, the scam group Gaza Verified would be guilty of it themselves.
It's the classic "rules for you, but not for me" attitude. While they waste time playing games. 🙄
I am actually trying to fix the system. I have posted three (3) suggestions on GitHub to help Mastodon users and admins escape abuse and make the internet safer. I bet the people complaining are the exact ones who don't want the internet or the Fediverse to be safer.
Suggestion 1:
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/40172
Suggestion 2:
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/40116
Suggestion 3:

Of course, there is also my general public block list. One of the reasons it keeps growing is because that scam group keeps evading.

If you are not progressive left — which is the only way we save this country — I don’t want to hear from you anymore.
I will vote progressively or not at all. It is not up for debate or discussion.
I will not support pedophile Nazis or their sympathizers or collaborators. Unity is not more important than accountability and change.
Unity without accountability is just a hostage situation. We’ve spent decades watching conservatives move the goalposts and moderates tell us to be grateful for the new, worse 'normal.' Stop calling it a compromise when the only thing being sacrificed is progress. I’m voting for systemic change, not for a seat on a bus that only travels right.
I’m done accepting 'unity' as a substitute for change. The current cycle is predictable and toxic: conservatives break the system, and moderates ask us to 'compromise' by accepting the damage as the new baseline. True compromise requires a move toward progress, not just a slower crawl toward the right. I refuse to fall in line with a system that demands my silence while it protects the very people who should be held accountable.
If my unwillingness to continue to capitulate to that nonsense any longer makes you feel afraid, then be afraid, and do something about it.
