WHERE IS THE MENTION OF THE 60,000 VOLUNTARY BUYOUTS, FRIENDS?!
So sick of seeing these big corps ruin people's careers and lives, then post record profits, then have those harms immeidately laundered by the press.

I'm a co-founder. We publish queer-normative hopepunk fiction for adults, and we just started this year. Five books so far! https://shirakipress.com

It feels hard to justify yeeting Meta into the sun when running an online business, but I'm building an increasingly solid case that their supposed reach and monopoly on attention simply don't inure to the benefit of most businesses or creators any more, thus nullifying all claimed advantages. I look forward to the day when I can confidently pull the plug on their entire rotten ecosystem and know the business will remain healthy.

There's a dust-up over an AI ad from Bookshop.org. But they didn't use AI; Meta's ad platform automatically created an AI "variation" of the original, non-AI content.
I went to disable this crap in our Shiraki Press ad account, and got served a popup *demanding a reason why*.
Fuck Meta for this. Consent matters. We've just pulled all paid advertising from their platforms.

When you're looking at an account on any social media platform, what are some signals that scream "bot" to you? (I have a list of my own, but I'm curious to see what else I'm missing.)

Mini-Eggos as breakfast cereal sounds like the GOAT 👀

I bought the Oreo cereal somewhat ironically... but it turns out to be kinda lit?!
Alright, share your most unhinged cereal recs!

Wow it turns out if you don't tax your millionaires and all you have are millionaires then you get yourself into some trouble! If only anyone could have foreseen this!

Yeah, soooo Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX all going IPO within close proximity of each other feels like a death knell for the US economy 💀
I just can't imagine how this doesn't crash absolutely everything.

Okay, #Mastodon #Android app question... I'm starting to see more and more very long posts from users at wordpress.com, which is fine as far as it goes, but they suck in the app because they're like eleven screens long. Is there some setting that could detect and truncate over-length posts, or alternatively a way to filter (NOT block) posts from the domain?
(These are not people I follow; they land in my feed because of followed hashtags. Content is fine; only length is an issue.)

Tech these days: "You have to work from the office so you can have serendipitous interactions with your colleagues that we replaced with the AI that you have to prompt from the office." 🤡

I've been cross-posting to both Bluesky and Mastodon for a few months now, and this comparison is pretty emblematic of how that's been going:
Masto: 40 total interactions
Bluesky: Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
Numbers aren't everything, but this is an observable pattern that tells a very different story than the one I keep seeing in "mainstream" discourse.

How are they doing this this fast? Are there like daily rocket launches and multi-satellite deployments per launch? I feel like this should be a way bigger deal?!
