A survey recently made me think about why, exactly, I even created an account for our studio here on the fedi.
I created it as a way to gain feedback from people interested in our game, people who perhaps thought that making a forum post or leaving a comment in a matrix room was too difficult.
I'm going to retire this account to being just updates. For issues or questions, please see our forum or channel.

Thanks!

It does appear to have been a poor choice on their part though:

With the AI voice transcription?
https://alternativeto.net/news/2024/10/shotcut-24-10-adds-initial-ai-features-through-openai-s-whisper-audio-transcription-model/
I wonder how much "AI" is really involved in that considering that voice transcription was a pretty mature product before OpenAI the company ever existed.
https://github.com/openai/whisper/discussions/1463
Looks like it runs locally (or can), and is not a genai, which reduces two of the larger concerns.

Tried visiting reddit again recently - what a troll farm that place is. It's always been bad, but the super obvious political trolls seem to make up a majority of the posts.

I suggest all #indiedev and #indiefilm folks grab the Quixel Megascans now, while they're free:

You can argue that "quiet public" and other changes to the buttons in the new version make sense or not, but the hard line for me was reducing the font and requiring me to literally go change my browser setting just to be able to read the site.
When a user has to go reach for the browser settings, your UI is bad

2024-10-21 19:50:36 UTC

- reply

Not sure if that captures it well, but they reduced the font size like 2pts, possibly more.

2024-10-21 19:47:44 UTC

Here's how it looks for me without overriding font size, and with.
Previously, I never had to override it, the default accepted my brower's setting for minimum.
The other stuff is annoying, but par for the course with what passes for "design" in 2024

I took a good week or two off from it just to see if the web interface was going to get patched.
Apparently not, or not yet anyhow.

Those things didn't change for me, but what did was a new unreadable font, a weird new version of follow/unfollow, filtered topics/words showing up as huge flags, CWs being super obnoxious instead of tags.
I am happy it's more functional for you, though!

2024-10-21 16:50:37 UTC

Thank goodness for @npub18wv…53pp not updating to the awful new mastodon UI.
I like that I can still easily read and use it.

I like the concept of gemini quite a lot, especially the part where the browser controls styling, but I think it's honestly a bit *too* far.
I think what I'd really prefer is something more like elinks/lynx to get a few more GUI options so that I can choose to enable some additional GUI features (like images, for example, since some things really need pictures - like recipes and photography sites)

I can't speak for others, but for me of the 50 or so people I used to watch on youtube, almost all of them have left.

2024-09-26 18:05:25 UTC

That's what I'm feeling too.
The number of people whose content I consume has dropped off such a sharp cliff.
Now it's down to about 6 people, and only because that's where they post their patreon videos.

2024-09-26 17:59:19 UTC

Loads :D
But mainly - I tried it, it had all the same discoverability issues of youtube with none of the perks.
So if I already need to advertise and direct people to content one by one, it might as well be as simple for me to host as possible.

Big update:
We're in the process of retiring our youtube channel.
Content will be moving to our forum and our site.

Reminds me of the Star Fox solution.
Expanding a system's capabilities via the game cart is a very cool (if expensive) technique.
I'm interested in the final outcome of your game.

I find it odd that there's an entire tier of indiegames made in a few specific low-income countries that are incredibly poorly tuned for 'normal' computers.
If your game will barely run on the average computer in your country, wouldn't you want to tune for that?

Anyone know a good android app that displays full-screen album art for music that's playing?
Thinking of making a little display to sit on top of my hi-fi to show the album. I used to do that with the record sleeve, and CDs are just a bit too small... but I *do* have a really bad old android tablet...

Neither of my adult children own a "real" laptop. Or a desktop.
The closest one has is a steam deck, the other has a chromebook.
Even amongst the fairly technical millennials the owning of a real computer is becoming rarer.
I'm glad Graphene can install via browser.

Never fails. I download Euro Truck Simulator 2, play for a session or two, they needlessly update the nearly 10 year old game, and break it again.
So I delete it. Again.
At this point, I'm just going to delete it from my steam library. What a regrettable purchase. I hate steam's forced update of single player games.
