Just went to check the post and had a chat with a neighbour over the road. It obviously turned to my separation with Carla. Between the other neighbour who seems to tell everyone my business and the fact she has a relative who works at the casino, she was basically fully up to date on everything.

A shipwreck survivor washes up on the beach of an island and is immediately surrounded by a group of native warriors.
"I'm done for!", he cries in despair.
"No you are not," comes a booming voice from the heavens. "Listen carefully, and do exactly as I say. Grab the spear from the one who is beside you and shove it through the heart of the chief."
The man does so, and the remainder of the band stare in disbelief. "Now what?" the man asks the heavens.
"Now, you are done for."

Question par rapport aux taxes foncières...

It's been just over two weeks since I badgered my shrink to supply me with HSV antivirals for my Ménière's disease and I've not had one serious episode since the second day. As a reminder, I'd been getting "lie down and close my eyes because that's literally all I can do to stop the vertigo" episodes roughly every two days for two months prior.
Apparently it's important to do this protocol within two years of getting Ménière's or it's less effective. And it doesn't seem to work for younger cases (it's considered idiopathic - of unknown origin and just a set of symptoms, so there can be multiple causes).
This is not a scientific study, IANAD, etc. But it seems to work for me.

I might have mentioned this before, but I was an odd fish as a child*. Mum thought I was a bit thick because I didn't start reading aged one like my elder sister. I actually remember thinking those stupid Janet and John books were just an annoying waste of my time. Literally the first book I ever read was Robin Hood, aged four, and I just never stopped for a decade. I was allergic to stuff that was transparently condescending to kids.
If anyone else was similarly odd, I'm guessing I'll find them here.

Had my first sesh in the gym for over three months. Did a "daily" session which is half the weight of the strength training sessions. Think I'll alternate weeks doing one or the other, until I get the hernia looked at.
Had been chatting to an old friend who is younger than me and currently in hospital having been unable to move last week. Turned out to be kidney cancer and some growth had impacted a vertebra. Even before he gets the overall cancer prognosis he's not sure if he will walk properly again, and he was talking about potentially doing resistance training if the physio gets better.
Kind of put my ennui in context, so I got off my sorry arse and profited from not being physically fucked up.

So I've just been diagnosed with ADHD aged 60, having been able to mask it as a child on account of being "gifted" and having a very protective big sister. This delayed the diagnosis because usually the score is higher as a child, whereas I had to confront reality later.
Is there any specific stuff out there to help someone my age in managing it etc? I'm due to see my shrink again in a month to possibly look at meds, so feedback on how all that works would be useful too.
We concentrated on a more pressing matter this session, once she's explained the diagnosis, so didn't get a chance to go into any detail about how to manage it and maybe be less dispersed in my thinking.
So, basically, this is all new to me (apart from the social anxiety, PTSD, crap coping mechanisms etc). It's also coming as I'm separating with my wife after 35 years, so it's possibly a good time to try to get on top of this. 🙏

2026-10-05 13:45:08 UTC

Well, just saw my shrink and apparently my lower (but still above the line) ADHD score as a child was because I was highly intelligent and protected by my dominant Mum and big sister, so could mask it and/or not have to confront reality. So, I guess the diagnosis is in. But I mainly badgered her about something else...
I came along with my trusty printout of herpes simplex antivirals for Méniére's disease. She ended up giving me a prescription and I'll see her again in a month. Plus blood tests etc.
Cost me over €120 though, because it wasn't for a known pathology treated by the antivirals. Ouch. And it either works or it doesn't, I'll soon find out...
She's bloody great!

They really don't help themselves.
Via Sabine Hossenfelder:
The British Medical Journal (BMJ) reports that during the COVID vaccine rollout in 2021, US health officials used a safety-monitoring algorithm that they knew was inadequate but ignored the problem.
At the time, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compared reports of adverse events after each vaccine with reports after other vaccines. But by 2021 more than 90 per cent of reports were about the (very similar) mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. Because of this, adverse events which occured for both vaccines would not have statistically stood out.
The BMJ extracted this information from internal emails it obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. These emails reveal that FDA employees Ana Szarfman and statistician William DuMouchel warned Peter Marks (then the FDA’s vaccine regulator) about this problem in early 2021. They proposed an improved method, but higher FDA administration ignored the warning.
As a consequence, the algorithm failed to flag myocarditis (an inflammation of the heart muscle), which was later found to be a side-effect of mRNA vaccination.

My 9/11 experience.
"Working from home" as a Solutions Architect ar Compaq, just watching the telly slack-jawed as it unfolded.
I called my little brother, saying "Are you watching the telly?!".
]He replied, "Yes, great innit?". Me: "What?". Him: "The TUC Conference". Me (after it sinks in)": "Change channels now".

Colin the crab lived a simple life. A happy life. He was engaged to Lily the lobster, and they were very much in love. However Luke, king of the lobsters, intervened.
"I will not have my daughter marrying a creature that walks sideways." Luke said. "It would bring shame upon the whole lobster kingdom."
Lily cried and begged her father to see reason, but to no avail. Distraught, Colin scuttled sideways into the murk of the sea, nowhere to be seen.
Two weeks later, it was Lily's wedding day. She had been coerced into marrying a fellow lobster. Silent tears streamed down her face as the lobster vicar read them their vows. At once there was a mighty BANG, and the doors slammed wide open. The congregation turned, astonished, to see Colin the Crab standing there.
Gasps arose as he fixed Luke, the lobster king, with a glare, and slowly put one leg in front him. He took a step. Forwards.
Not one eye in the hall strayed from him as he walked, one leg in front of the other, up to where Lily and her finace stood. There was utter silence as he spoke.
"Christ alive, I am so drunk."

So I've just taken 60mg of L-dopa. Now to see if it alleviates depression and improves mood or turns me into a quivering wreck...

Just got some L-DOPA tablets to help with concentration. I'm not particularly happy about taking them, as it will increase dopamine in the peripheral nervous system as well as in the noggin. Anyone got feedback?
My GP couldn't give me the antivirals to try to attenuate the Ménière's disease, but she gave me the details of the top experts in France. Either they give me the drugs or I get my shrink to do it, as it appears to be linked to stress. Why is it so hard to get drugs that could possibly attenuate the awful quality of life problems with this disease? They don't have serious side effects either. If I get blanked I'm going to have to go to the pharmacy and say I've had a flare up of genital herpes so I can try them...

I think I'm going to take a break from here until my various travails are sorted out. I don't want to just spend my time whingeing about personal stuff.
Hopefully à bientôt.

My rural 4G LTE connection with the dual mahoosive external Yagi antennas is looking pretty decent nowadays.
We're due 8Gb symmetric FTTH soon (unlike the rest of the village, Mwahahaha!) so this will probably be decommissioned and I could use the Yagi antennas for my daft long range drone experiments.
