The conference's theme has a direct and somewhat strange resonance with recent events, as the Italian hacktivist collective #AutisticiInventati just announced the shut-off of its online services offered to social movements across the world, following the sanctions issued by the Trump administration as part of its repression of anti-fascist groups. https://www.reuters.com/technology/italian-tech-collective-shut-down-after-us-terrorist-designation-2026-09-07/

MistralAI's, Arthur Mensch said during a parliamentary hearing 3 weeks ago that AI would contribute to significant inflation in Europe by driving electricity prices up. The European Commission's solution, as part of its "technological sovereignty" package? AI-powered "smart meters" to nudge Europeans into consuming less during peak hours. For real. https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-households-electricity-energy-artificial-intelligence-ai/

Although framed as a protection against AI surveillance, the #AIact is anything but: "Governments successfully lobby for freedom to surveil citizens in public spaces, target border areas with AI systems and exploit predictive policing algorithms, internal documents obtained by [@investigate_eu](https://bird.makeup/users/investigate_eu ) reveal." https://www.investigate-europe.eu/posts/france-spearheads-member-state-campaign-dilute-european-artificial-intelligence-regulation

The EU"s "Next Generation Internet initiative has supported Free Software projects with funding and technical assistance since 2018. Despite its proven success, the European Commission made the decision to cut this funding in the current draft for the Horizon Europe 2025 Work Programme." Why? to pour even more money into #AI... https://edri.org/our-work/european-commission-cuts-funding-support-for-free-software-projects/
