Happy to present my brand new PeerTube instance at https://video.joostrekveld.net . So much better in all respects than the overpriced and underwhelming commercial alternatives that I was using before !
So far I can really recommend this to all my filmmaker friends: migrate over to the non-technofascist side, host your work (and previews) on your own PeerTube instance and let us federate !

For those in Brussels who are interested in such things: Hold the date !
On the 10th, 12th and 13th of September, the friendly people of Cinema Nova will be screening many of my films, including the most recent feature-length one (pictured). There will be a small exhibition of plots, prints and devices, and also an event around the "Liberate the Machines !" book. Looking forward to seeing you there !

A rabbit-hole that exerts a strong pull, but so far I have been able to resist it: the history of techniques to display alphanumeric characters on cathode ray tubes.
This picture may very well be from the first fully electronic method proposed, invented at the Automatic Telephone and Electric Company in Liverpool in 1947. All glyphs are generated from sine-wave-like curves, truncated in different ways.

So not to give the entirely false impression that everything always just works: this is a piece of the inside of the oven that I thought I had successfully tested a few days ago. On tuesday I hope we can test version four.
[ Please refrain from giving unsolicited advice unless you have with your own hands built an oven that actually worked up to 500 degrees C. Thanks. ]

Had no idea that at the occasion of the publication of Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" in 1962, Monsanto published a speculative account of the devastation that a year without pesticides would bring to the USA.

I remember learning such facts in the early 1990s from the brilliant human being and composer Clarence Barlow. It is probably in his 'Musiquantics' text, found here (in case you didn't already know it):
