wrote an article with thoughts about atproto, AI agents, P2P, malleable software and permacomputing here, https://lichen.page/green-paper.html
the website also includes some beautiful pixel art by https://www.instagram.com/frsw_franz/
based on a fork of lichen-markdown which itself a fork of lichen in forth/php

⚘ nyc co-op cloud convergence #2 ⚘
this thursday february 19th at ridgewood commons from 8pm to 11pm
this one will be more hands-on than the first one
we will be looking at the ridgewood commons coop cloud deployment (to give a helping hand) and getting to know backup bot a bit better
the flowers in the flyer images were created by @frsw_franz

totally. a file listing torrent links (that get rehydrated via torrenting) and urls (that get rehydrated via yt-dlp) would be quite nice
all legally and respectfully ofc

- reply

minimal version of this is just a file listing albums by url and rehydration via yt-dlp

imagining a music library in nixos-style config form that then can reproducibly reconstruct/download it from various sources

if you are in nyc or nearby, come join this sunday for the first ever nyc co-op cloud convergence, at 2:30pm at ridgewood commons ❄️
co-organized with @npub1p0w…42wq and paul
flyer created by @halopoem

is anyone following any archiving projects of journalists and social media from gaza?
like of Saleh al-Jafarawi <3

2025-09-09 16:36:05 UTC

annoyed that atproto depends on dns, and dns is such a clear vector of censorship that seems likely to continue to be used more frequently
altho i guess browsers etc with alternative dns resolvers, or even dns-over-tor, is a pretty straightforward workaround, but i think not currently mainstream

2025-05-29 16:38:45 UTC

seeing under-funded projects not receive the care and maintenance they need,
again thinking about how the choice of simple and maintainable tools, is also often actually choosing something higher quality on a longer time frame

so the site is made with lichen-markdown, and @chillygorilly.bsky.social and I share a login to the admin interface. so we can both add and edit pages. we sometimes chat about it, or just spontaneously add things and tell the other. so far just the two of us, but thinking to grow

also this isn't even out yet, but i stumbled across https://preview.tone.sone.dev/ , by the creator of http://bndcmpr.co and it looks really nice and i want to use a music player that looks like that
curious if they are on the fediverse somewhere?

alternative thoughts on legality:
- if its broadcast privately to friends via iroh instead of on public internet do different laws apply?
- also interested in just broadcasting metadata, along with something that provides yt-dlp/soulseek commands to seamlessly find the songs from the metadata (rehydratable broadcast?)
- or it can just be anon and illegal like soulseek if thats the route with the most legal clarity (sometimes being illegal and uncensorable is more resilient infra anyway)

- imagining a terminal-user-interface for this whole thing kind of like cmus, but with an extra window to see all of my friends/peers who have play history in the last 24 hours along with a browsable timeline of their play history along with possibility to leave little notes with songs on your broadcast
... sort of a halfway-house in between soulseek, spotify friends are playing, and internet radio...

internet radio idea of the day...
*-*-*-*-*
curious how the following idea would relate to legal definitions of internet radio?
& the line between a livestream, and a store and forward network ?
*-*-*-*-*
p2p internet radio :: body-double-radio (inspired by https://drdevonprice.substack.com/p/being-socially-motivated-is-not-a) ::
- as I play music, what I listen to is broadcast as internet radio
and my friends can tune into my stream
- my stream is not just broadcast live, but broadcast with a 24 hour play history, so people can see the last 24 hour history and tune into any part (inspired by store and forward gossip networks with broadcasts via relays)
- the player that tunes into a stream "plays before downloading", so its a broadcast not reproduction (but clients have seamless built-in analog hole plugins to save streams with the correct metadata)

2025-03-14 17:32:32 UTC

today thinking again about music sharing and internet radio ideas ... the endless and perennial question for all programmers and computer users

2025-02-06 17:40:36 UTC

is there a tool that lets u share a playlist in whatever platform you listen to music, and it makes a link with duplicated versions of that playlist on every other music platform?
so when you send someone a playlist it doesnt say anything about how they should listen to it?
posse for playlists?

Excited to share https://infrastructures.us
A website archiving the first two sessions of Solidarity Infrastructures, a class at The School For Poetic Computation looking at and experimenting with analog and digital infrastructures in various forms.
The first two sessions technically focused on working with Yunohost, but many participants also branched out in totally different directions, from setting up a mesh network to a community fridge, to a forum about foxes.

I assume data centers are frequently decomissioning server hardware as new more efficient hardware comes out. who gets the old stuff?
anyone have any intel on this?

I've also often imagined that workplace surveillance could get even more bleak in the future for programmers via automated monitoring of exactly how you are using your work laptop during work hours, similar to how warehouse workers are monitored
