yeah. I'd be curious to see what percentage of visitors go from the airport to the strip and then never leave the strip area, and how many rental cars just absorb parking in that area
I am currently here on work, and walking half a mile each way with no shade, since many big blocks lack alleys or similar
Oh and next to one part of my walk there is pristine perfectly green Kentucky bluegrass, watered nightly and on the other side of the sidewalk desert is xeroscape, *siiiiigh*

Vegas lacking a fast reliable connection to the strip and downtown areas is such a failure

by the same token most "work requirement" programs for assistance and other beaucratic mazes setup to push people deemed unworthy end up costing more than not having, because operating the programs cost so much more

hmmmmmmm I haven't implemented anything yet but one brand I've used for shades just came out with a curtain rod kit and it is tempting to get that so I can have the curtains close as someone walks up to the house.....

So currently I generate my Talos configs via Terraform, but tbh that system is a bit more brittle than I'd like.
The idea was I could integrate the Talos config generation with other terraform, but in practice, no not really viable for my setup.
I don't trust terraform to not explode the rook cluster in particular
What do people like for templating Talos configs? Talm? Talhelper?

This is a really neat blog post on bootc and OSTree:
https://a-cup-of.coffee/blog/ostree-bootc/
If I had more VMs or physical systems to manage it would be really neat to try bootc for the base images, lots of potential there

However the best place to plant a tree 20 years ago is *not* directly against the foundation

Ok, I still need a task app to replace google keep
Problem is I have yet to find anything that meets these requirements
* Able to be self hosted
* Native android app
* Fast/smooth
* must work when offline, and sync seamlessly
* Must support reminders, including recurring, location based reminders a big plus
* Must have a very minimal interface, with the option to add checkboxes/lists
I have yet to find something that meets all of these requirements, maybe there has been some polish in the year since I looked last?

Huh so currently I have DHCP updating DNS records for each lease it gives out
So question for the ipv6 inclined:
But I've been reading up on SLAAC and stateless dhcp6
Is there a common system to update DNS based on ipv6 records in such a system or would I need to use stateful dhcp6? #Homelab #Networking #IPv6

I'm fairly convinced that being on small instances blunts the problems since the worst instances are least likely to even see us unless we federate with enough people in common

Iwish trains were real :sobMeltdown:
(ok, we have a train, it stops at an empty tiny station outside of town, no scheduled transit goes to the station, the busses come every 90min, there are 2-3 trains per day at that station, good luck with layovers, it is rarely faster than driving)

an option like follow-requests for lists, or a disable option for lists would make sense as well

eh I'm still salty over the kde plasma 4 release and also how amarok chasing after that lead to a huge feature regression that changed how I listened to music in a negative way, so very specifically salty lmao

So I hear that kde is still kinda half baked
What do people like these days for desktop environments on Linux? What should I try on this laptop? I've been out of the game for way too long (work computer comes with whatever bs Ubuntu is up to)
Actually what is everyone's favorite laptop linux that isn't Gentoo?

Also @npub1frk…5a27 has a really robust config in a public gitlab, which can be really good for inspiration, I have a bunch of things on my to-do list after browsing!

there are two ways to approach it imo:
1) My current solution, nfs-subdir-provisioner
Pros:
* dead simple
* supports RWX volumes
* low effort to maintain
* Nodes just need to be added to /etc/exports on the fileserver
Cons
* Does not support some volume features
* NFS can be weird sometimes, sqlite hates it unless you set async which is not ideal
2) Ceph/Rook?
Pros:
* Not NFS
* Can deploy volumes with nodes, and build a system more resilient than a single fileserver
* Can use proxmox to build the ceph cluster then use rook for volumes
Cons:
* Far more complicated
* Ideally wants 3 nodes minimum, preferably 4+???
@npub1ngg…6agg can talk more about ceph tho

I have a draft of deploying sharkey* to kubernetes, highlighting some interesting features of kuberetes
partly holding back because there is one part of the networking I need to figure out. I am currently routing all outound sharkey traffic out via wiregard VPN so the exit is the cloud VPS but I want to do it cleaner

it is why I love ArgoCD so much
I can see how the app is deployed, how the running instance differs vs what is in git (and I can set to auto sync git to the cluster) and it'll also show untracked things in the namespace, or things that are missing entirely on one side

the main thing with Ansible in a Homelab is you need to be disciplined, sometimes it feels easier and faster (because it can be for sure) to edit things directly and you have to be sure you update the Ansible config when done then run Ansible to make sure that worked

So we started the breakout session by someone giving a slide brief of the goals and strategy of the technical breakout session
Said person was not super technical so generated the slide with Google Gemini
Was any of the slide or brief meaningful or useful?
No, of *course* not
