GrapheneOS users using Obtainium, their latest release causes a flag if preventing DCL from memory is toggled on.

This place continues to churn out the 'best' of us...
@throwawayleaker@mastodon.social
Here decided to raid our room, our Off-Topic room (for security/privacy topics related to but not directly about GrapheneOS rambling on with text walls about AI like a drunk street preacher declaring all AI illegal (while sympathetic to the view in relation to creative media based stuff I've covered our code view below) and they refused to see the nuance or cease text walling when asked politely...

We don't like shady alternate OS marketing privacy and security they don't really provide, we don't like Google doing it either.
Read below the break to find out how Google and OEMs mislead you and what emboldens alternate OS and ODMs to market support they don't really offer.

2026-10-02 21:45:41 UTC

Google keep 💩'ing the 🛏️.
GrapheneOS' response 'We'll handle it'
Not just protecting users from adversaries.

If you have just or are planning on joining the global family of GrapheneOS users, you are doing so at a time of accelerated progress and change on a UI/UX basis. Great to have you along for the journey.

This issue is not public, but based on this information we deem it unlikely that Google will do anything about it. GrapheneOS is aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

Oversharing is NOT caring.
Privacy is not just a right but a DUTY and OBLIGATION.
Removing images is not enough, I note she didn't say she would be deleting her profile and stopping using any META services.

2026-08-29 14:34:54 UTC

Google have properly shat the bed.
I have a feeling the financial director asked AI/Gemini, what they could remove to save money, consumers wouldn't notice, that would create less issues for corporate partners being shown up for bad app dev practices.
It's answer MTE.
The device lauding AI removed a security feature protecting against the AI enabled vulnerability finding/exploiting future their partner Anthropic marketed as imminent and so dangerous Mythos was contained.
Pixel 11 is DOA.

#DidYouKnow the GrapheneOS Gallery is being entirely thrown out and replaced with a new app soon. Calendar, Clock, Contacts, Dialer and Messaging are going to be overhauled. Messaging overhaul is well under way and most of the UI has already been replaced with a modern one in the Messaging app development branch.

@nprofile…x48d @nprofile…8d0p @kiefac@eattherich.club the software isn't made for one specific corporations proprietary hardware. The software is made for any hardware meeting the minimum specification. Point to any other OEM with full HW parity, HW available, verified boot preserving, compatibility with alternate OS with Pixels? Motorola are making changes to support us, not the other way round, other OEMs therefore could do the sane. They don't. They gatekeep us from their users and HW.

@nprofile…fjfs so true and the fact they can't offer the choice of either keeping things as is on a profile plus the documentation or altering the profile similar to delrting an offending tweet that causes a suspension is beyond me. @nprofile…fjfs probably reported to end up on the radar. Beyond that they seemingly blanketed everyone who was on a list. Only those complying would get them back. TLDR: Gael Duval head of Murena and /e/OS partner of Fairphone declared privacy/security maximalists using 'hardened' OS/tools are paedophiles.
We pointed this & it's obvious PR grade targeting of us out.
People focused on the latter over the former because...? Reasons.
Reaction from privacy/security/freedom/civil rights advocates and organisations in response to the smear? Crickets.

@nprofile…z5wp Gael Duval claimed privacy and security maximalists who use the best tools are peadophiles. Wonder if others will communicate it to save us doing it or whether they'll play apologist because we emphasised based on the language used they were targeting us? Is there an issue with them taking a platform like that and comminicating this the way they did?

The European Flag and Open Source shouldn't be shields behind which ideological demagogues and bad faith actors should be able to hide behind.
You may not like our pedagogic approach but it comes from having faith in people to discern fact from fiction, and appreciate hearing from people auditing the claims. Those who can audit closed source code do, everyone can audit open source but 99% of people can't & don't. If they are why are we the only voice, what are the motives for staying silent?

2026-04-14 16:29:50 UTC

Everybody, Telegram is a scam, isn't as private or secure as Advertised. Pavel Durov is scamming people and shouldn't be trusted.
Everybody, Whatsapp is a scam, Meta harvests metadata, contacts etc Zuckerberg is scamming people & shouldn't be trusted.
GrapheneOS explains Murena scam people and /e/OS neither enables your privacy, respects your data or protects you with even basic security.
The fediverse? Mass cognitive dissident seizure saying we shit on projects/need social media training.

@nprofile…j3ls one is worse because of the popularity and exposure, the other is worse because of lack of security forward approach. Also a post from the Wireguard dev with their concerns is available here:
https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/issues/3110#note_1613430404
This led to them including a self-update system which was openly implemented and documented. F-Droid was unaware they'd shipped it for half a year, and by then WireGuard had essentially escaped from in their words being held hostage by F-Droid.

2026-04-02 08:31:46 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…j3ls I'd be worried about installing from F-Droid regardless due to very poor security practices including very delayed updates, downgraded dependencies, problematic undocumented changes and an insecure build server environment. Their own app has an abysmally low targetsdk also, despite newer versions for it an outdated one is linked on the website, which causes conflicts when people have multi users when trying to install across them as the preexisting one has updated. Shambles.

I can't keep ignoring this base approach, especially when if it comes down to me financially supporting a provider who claims principles and yet gives succour to companies and influencers who have none and whose own products don't stand up to even a basic cursory interrogation. Whats worse is the way these businesses don't lift themselves up when found wanting but resort to campaigns of excuses, word salad and redefinitions at best and outright abuse, libel and defamation at worst.

2026-01-02 22:51:37 UTC

The inter-financial/promotional capitalistic circle jerk by vendors promoting substandard privacy and security products in this space appalls me. It's the worst kind of human centipedal behaviour as they voluntarily swallow and regurgitate claims for each other to build SEO etc

GrapheneOS remains available for users in France, there's nothing illegal about it. All services still work in France. Our servers won't be hosted in France or providers based in France (OVH) anymore. We already moved all the main ones used by the OS away.
Connections from France to our website, connectivity checks, network time, network-based location and other services now go to a BuyVM server in Bern, Switzerland instead of OVH Gravelines, France. Services still work fine with low latency.

With the French media taking up the war on privacy, security and freedom in the connected world, they've decided to go all out smearing citizens across the free world using technology that provides those three principles as criminal elements. While they use that for cover the real underlying intent is what follows:
"These hitherto inviolate devices, which protect communications and which do not share data on servers, are a new challenge that the cyber prosecutor's office intends to take on"

2025-11-19 17:27:34 UTC

The latter suspiciously quiet on their low privacy and low security government funded offerings.

Nothing new about what is being offered. Everything we've done and do is provided without strings FREE, while Google moves to make you opt-in to their platform for less robust provision or to make OEMS pay for it.

Now as Google has begun to push AOSP 16 QPR1 out please keep in mind moving to a QPR release is no different to porting to a new major Android version. The work we will be undertaking to port 16 to 16 QPR1 is the same.
No ETA, no asking, allow resource priority to development.
10th Gen Pixel follows.

@nprofile…lfyh not had an army of miniatures since half a lifetime ago. The lore though, the written word keeps me hooked. Especially since writing to GW as a child and some amazing member of staff taking the time to hand write me a letter and send photo copies of all the Dark Angels/Horus Hersey stuff they had available in Codex, Rule Books and White Dwarf.
