I didn’t vote because I didn’t feel I had an informed answer. But now I’ve read the reasons you added post-poll, I’m not sure I see a meaningful difference between a relay and a server in this instance. If a troll finds my post through a relay, I can still block them and their server, right?
If that’s the case, my vote would be ‘no’.

What might someone think are the negatives of having their content shared to/by a relay?

Tbf that’s the native mastodon app being crap. When I view the post in Mona it looks like a quote post, and tapping on it keeps me in the app. Whereas tapping on the post in the Mastodon app takes me to my browser. Which is frickin stupid.

Predictable. The Australian government is (at long last) seriously considering a tax on natural gas export. Only at 25% vs Norway's 78%, but hey I'll take anything.
But here comes the IEA suggesting the poor little mining companies won't like it. "Energy investors are like butterflies. When they are scared, they fly away,"
Somehow the companies keep investing in Norway, but Australia implementing a 25% might scare the investors away? Just shut up, IEA.

I don’t want to get y’all too worked up but quote posting just got ‘closed as completed’ on GitHub. So, coming soon I guess!
Very satisfying to see a feature completed that was first requested in 2016 😄

Android and iOS seem to be slowly converging in their gatekeeping of their app ecosystem. Seems like soon neither of them will be good for apps that want to operate outside the standard system for whatever reason. Not great for open source or living in restrictive, authoritarian countries.

In utterly unsurprising news, geoengineering will only delay warming not fix it, and cause other problems in the process.

The European Court of Human Rights: “failure to adequately address environmental pollution violates the human right to life. This includes the obligation to inform individuals living in areas affected by pollution so that they be able to assess the risks to their lives and health.”
Incredible news for human and environmental wellbeing!

Called it. All those articles predicting peak emissions were utter bollocks, there was no way emissions were going to go down this year.

Excellent long read on biodiversity, how to measure (companies’ impacts on) it, and greenwashing.

To be fair, if you go to their website it does say that you can also use SMS, but there’s no mention of that on the message that was displayed on the train.

The rise of Mastodon has made me so much more aware of government services requiring us to use private companies’ systems to communicate with them and access services.
Sitting on a Dutch train just now I was shown on a screen “feeling unsafe in the train? Contact us via WhatsApp”.
What if I don’t use WhatsApp? (I do, but I wish I didn’t have to) I’m forced to share my data with Meta to use it.
Public systems should not require use of private services.
