How about Wikipedia? En.wikipedia *is* deluged in AI slop but has become increasingly strict against LLM usage, apart from very limited exceptions. There's a noticeboard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:AINB and LLM warnings are pasted in articles that are suspected of being LLM-contaminated.

Could it be that those worried about being witch-hunted are starting to feel guilty about helping to concentrate power in the hands of a few authoritarian organisations and helping to accelerate the climate emergency?

"In October 2025, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff declared his avid support of Donald Trump and urged him to deploy the National Guard to San Francisco ... That same month, Salesforce pitched the Trump administration on ways that Salesforce's AI tools could help Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) triple its staff to support the administration's mass deportation campaign. ..."

But forcing WMF workers into the arms of the Giga-dollar US corporation #SalesforceInc [1] that runs #Slack [2][3] is extremely unwise, not just as a matter of principle, but also for practical and legal reasons. Better switch to FOSS, which is at the core of the community of WMF wikis, now rather than later.
Salesforce Inc's respect for workers' rights doesn't sound great [1].

You have a much better perspective than I do to make those broad judgments about Pezeshkian; I can only point to the few bits of info that I see.
The Rudaw source also quotes #SattarHashemi, Minister of ICT: "fair access to the internet is the right of all people".
Is it actually the Ministry of ICT who controls the key internet nodes in a practical sense, not the #SupremeNationalSecurityCouncil (of which Pezeshkian is a member)?

I only meant that with their public statements cited by Rudaw mid-April, Pezeshkian's associates are siding with ordinary Iranians on this particular issue. I'm not generalising beyond that. That's also what I tried to imply by "independently of reform-vs-revolution debates".

It looks like there's a split on this between #Pezeshkian -aligned authorities versus #IRGC -aligned authorities - dating to around 22 April:
https://www.rudaw.net/english/middleeast/iran/24042026
Independently of reform-vs-revolution debates (Pezeshkianists siding with ordinary Iranians), it is *really* important to show that Iranians and Iranian citizens' associations are continuing to coordinate and prefer to *refuse* tiered access rather than accept it as a temporary compromise.

'Everybody says that "they" are against such censorship ...'
So if the IRI survives, it sounds like a 'second layer' internet freedom reform would be a potentially powerful change - much less than a complete overthrow of the IRI, but requiring a power shift within the system, and greatly welcome by most Iranians.
Have I understood correctly?
I think the IRI system is, at least, perturbed by the events from Jan to April 2026, so some shifts are plausible.

Mechanism: That petition [1] (and this Fediverse bubble) is (are) a small component of a complex dynamical system [4]. A positive feedback loop to #OpenTheIranianInternet could grow exponentially (beyond Fedi) to the point where the IRI/IRGC concede to external + internal pressure (such as son of President [5]). Whether it grows or is dampened will (partly) depend on arguments for or against.

Seems OK for me too. I find that often a new Wayback archive, after it's "saved" and has an archived URL, needs a few to a dozen or so hours before it becomes available in a practical sense. I assume that this is related to the huge amount of data and users and the way that Wayback is designed for long-term robustness.

Is this realistic? @npub1e8h…7zjt @npub1xw8…dcz3
While the sample is likely biased to those in contact with protesters, it still makes 1 in 10000 very low. Nobody has 10000 acquaintances.
A bias factor of 3, and 100 relatives/friends/acquaintances would give 1 in 300 => 300,000 protesters killed.

2000 would seem to make this the biggest protester death toll in the history of the #IslamicRepublicOfIran - more than during the 2019–2020 protests [4].
9000 would make this a bigger death toll than even the 1988 mass execution of political prisoners [5].
Likely a #CrimeAgainstHumanity .
This really does seem like the last gasp of a system that has lost its power to frighten people. Killing 1 per 10 thousand won't stop a revolution.

How many #Iran ian protesters [0] were shot dead by Iranian #IRGC/ #Basij /police on 8 + 9 January 2026?
* #Tehran: 217 [1] 1 per 50 thousand
* #Nishapur: 30 [2] 1 per 10 thousand
* #Rasht: 70 [3] = 1 per 10 thousand
Iran: 90 million people. So a credible interval is from 1800 to 9000 protesters shot dead in two days.
Protests are continuing.

And it's a special case of a polyhedral map projection [1]. My guess is that it's the Lee conformal world in a tetrahedron projection [2]. Cut the corners of the triangle and rotate and paste back together the cut pieces and the triangle becomes a rectangle where the mapping is continuous internally to the rectangle.

A Wikipedia article [1] has been suspended by court order to satisfy sub judice [2] and 3 Wikipedians are at personal risk [4].
Background [3]; ongoing debate: can the community prevent the WMF from putting three Wikipedians at risk? [4]

Building freedom takes time and effort. Keep working on things like Fediverse governance [1] and sooner or later there'll be new mass arrivals in the free world. And it does look like there's a bump up of about half a million in the last week [2] - though there was spam that might bias those estimates.

The description on the home page https://codeberg.org looks generally fine to me.
However, personally I would avoid the word "platform". My impression is that "platform" tends to mean that the organisation, servers and software are melded into one non-participatory, opaque black box, hiding the information on what it actually *is* beyond a god ("click and believe"). I would suggest replacing "platform" by "website", or maybe "platform and community"?

AFAIK Codeberg is a citizens' association based in Germany, and a website that runs a forgejo instance. @npub1fh7…ee83 could probably add some corrections or nuances to that ... :P

Are there any #mattermost clients apart from "the mattermost client" [1] provided by Mattermost itself? Since Mattermost is apparently Expat, #AGPLv3 and #ApacheLicense2_0 for various parts [2], it would be surprising if there are no clients done independently.

Excellent!
I disagree with the "hilarious" label. The fact that many of the points are perfectly serious and based on reality is not at all funny. The fact that the more reliable mainstream English-language media, especially the NYT, write just in this style is not funny either.

I see only one Brazil or portuguese-language related instance on
https://fediverse.party/en/portal/servers - https://colorid.es "Spanish LGBTQIA+ / queer instance primarily for Portuguese speakers (Mastodon)".
Any sub-5000-sized instances satisfying the criteria at https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/src/branch/main/ADDING-SERVER.md can be proposed at https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/issues or to @npub1xmq…slle .

In any case, Nogal is now Wikipedia notable in English [6]. After Delpino's interviews with Efecto Cocuyo [7] and the NYT [8], it seems like the big question is what Nogal really means by her brief public statement "yo no he abandonado a la oposición" and "yo asumo este chaparrón y nunca hablaré mal de la oposición" [9].

It seems that the CNE has so little respect for its non-Maduro-controlled members that it can't even bother spelling the name of #AimeNogalMendez properly [1], and the error propagated.
