This is basically what conversations and debates around sex sounded like before the internet ... especially if you were a kid or a teenager. No one had a clue and every once in a while, some idiot with a bit of information would come forward and confidently make statements like this and we couldn't agreed or disagree with them because no one could verify the information.
I remember one conversation when I was about eight and some older kid telling us that the number of thrusts you made when you had sex was the number of children you would have. And for the longest time I believed that.
Another one I heard as a teenager had to do with Asians ... specifically Chinese women .. people said that they had a vaginal canal that was like a corkscrew and it was really hard to get in there.
The dumb shit we heard and believed or semi-believed when we were growing up .... which is why people like Sue Johanson on late night TV in Canada was a breath of fresh air ... she had a talk show on late night TV with sex education and she talked about all the factual, scientific, medical stuff about sex and we learned lots from her. Seriously, look her up and find her videos.

Some poor young girl got knocked up and she didn't want to say who the father was so she made up a story about how a spirit had impregnated her.
I think that one got way out of hand

I just finished watching a couple of the Bourne movies and I always enjoy a good fantasy break from reality once in a while. But as I watched it again, I began to notice more and more plot holes to everything and it became a game to me as I watched and noticed how in so many instances, Jason Bourne just wanders around in public with no masks or facial changes, yet in the background, they keep showing these sophisticated control stations by the CIA/FBI/Secret agencies that can monitor and scan literally anything and everything all at once. I know its movie magic but the film at one extreme leads us to believe that they can monitor everything ... yet on the other hand, their key suspect is able to just wander around in public without anyone seeing him.
So I thought to myself how it would be hilarious if someone digitally remastered one of the Bourne movies and turned every single character and person that appears into Jason Bourne ... even the women, black guys, Middle Eastern people, Asians, big fat people, children, old ladies ... main characters, officers, government officials, the president of the United States, waiters, agents, soldiers, background people ... make them all Jason Bourne.

'The customer is always right' ..... doesn't mean anything any more.
Don't get me wrong - actual customers will always have no power no matter what platform there is.
The problem these days is that sellers, competitors, marketers and salesmen have co-opted the idea of 'customers' to screw over the entire system for everyone - customers and sellers.
Whatever you do in online sales, whether it is selling or buying ... never trust anyone and don't promise anything beyond what you are originally expected to do.
Capitalism is like a cancer that invades, infects and destroys everything it touches. When you think it about the definitions for successful capitalism and cancer are exactly the same .... runaway, unrestricted and unlimited growth is the goal.

I generally find most average people, no matter their race, religion, colour, creed or location to be very decent human beings.
It's when you put those same people into groups that they all become a problem because they'll be swayed by the loudest most obnoxious a-holes in the community.

I just finished watching DS9 Season 7 Episode 14 'Chimera'
The episode is one where Odo, the only Changeling in the Federation happens to meet another lost Changeling which sets off a series of conversations of what it means to be different in a society that is not like yourself. I immediately understood all the conversations, ideas, perceptions and perspectives as I watched this episode ..... because I've always felt this way. And even after many years, I still feel this way.
I'm Indigenous Canadian and I grew up and was born and raised in a very different world from the rest of Canada. I had my own language, my own culture, my own traditions, my own way of doing things and my own sense of strange humour and identity. I moved away from home about 20 years ago as an adult to live out my life doing something else in order to make a living and ever since then, I've always felt like an outsider everywhere ... I've never fit in and I always felt different. Many people were kind, helped me and did things for me but I always knew I could never properly fit into what is considered by most Canadians as a normalized white Caucasian man. It's also weird to call myself a Native because most people I meet, especially internationally outside of Canada ... seldom believe that I am Indigenous Canadian. Native Canadians are thought of as some sort of strange fairy tale that don't exist any more. I've been called Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Peruvian, Asian or the best one was being thought of as an overweight Thai person. And after spending 20 years in the non-Native world, I talk like a white man, walk like a white man, think like a white man .... but I am not a white man.
This whole DS9 episode really struck me because it talked about all those feelings of being completely different from everyone else. That difference upsets me .... and it upsets me even more knowing that since I am different, everyone sees me as different and more often than not see me as unusual and probably a threat. Which is why the following dialogue from Laas really struck me:
"But even when you make yourself in their image, they know you are not truly one of them. They know that what you appear to be does not reflect what you really are. It's only a mask. What lies underneath is alien to them, and so they fear it. And that fear can turn to hate in the blink of an eye. "
There are a lot of good people in the world ... and I've met many of them online in this digital community and here at c/tenforward. But it always disturbs me that when worse come to worse and people are under strain and stress ... any amount of fear because people are different can turn to hate. Not just for a brown long haired Native guy but for any of us that have any perceived difference from the supposed 'norm' of society.
This episode of DS9 was just a striking reminder to me of that reality. But it also gives me hope that it is shows and writing like this that remind us of that reality and prevents us from falling into those fearful, ignorant states of mind.

I think the biggest flaw with modern Trek series is that they spent more money and time on the imagery, picture, special effects and action scenes and presentation rather than on the actual story, writing and dialogue.
The old James Bond films were famous for this. In some of the films from the 60s and 70s, they first created the stunts and action scenes and wrote the story around them. In the end, they looked great fun and exciting but didn't mean much to the audience. It's a fire works show ... it looks neat but it's forgettable the next day.

Don't know how you guys feel about comparisons to Star Trek but I thought this was interesting.
Also, Mods ... if this kind of post is not allowed, I don't mind it being taken down.
I've only watched about half of all Star Trek content with series and movies and animations. I thought I had years of content to watch in the future ... but after hearing about other series from other people over the years, through comments in this community and through lists like this Youtube video ... I think I'll be spending the rest of my life watching scifi, the majority of which will be Star Trek.

Publically owned or controlled (or at least majority owned and controlled) news services in major countries
CBC - in Canada (where I'm from)
PBS - in the US
ABC - Australia
BBC - in the UK
France 24 - in France
NHK - in Japan
DW - in Germany
Although there are criticisms for each, at the very least, they give a good guidance to relevant straight forward news without too much spin.
