#ScribesAndMakers August 19. If paper books stopped being produced, how much would you miss them?
I think I'd miss them a lot. I read mostly ebooks just because of convenience but I really love holding a physical book. I do think something is lost when you don't feel the heft of a book or turn a physical page. That's not to say ebooks aren't wonderful, but I would miss paper books if they weren't around anymore.

#ScribesAndMakers August 14. Our next featured creator differentiates himself from his "name buddies" on his website. Do you share a name with anyone famous?
Nope, just a tree.

Happy Birthday! What are your favorite things to bake? And do you prefer to bake for yourself or for others? Any recipes to share for a novice?

#WritersCoffeeClub June 14. Talk about something you’re willing to endure in order to write.
Missing out on other activities. I don't have a lot of free time and the time I do have, I spend writing, which means I don't always get the chance to do a lot of other things I have once enjoyed. I try not to let it take over but it takes a lot of time to write

2026-06-11 10:01:00 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers June 11. How much do you worry about what others think of your creative work?
It fluctuates. Sometimes I care a lot about what others think and say about my writing. But other times, I don't care much at all. I write mostly for myself and a few close friends/family and they're going to be supportive with whatever I do. I try to stay in that zone as much as I can.

2026-06-10 09:59:02 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers June 10. (Excluding time travel) Do you have a preference between books that progress linearly and books that jump back and forth in time (flashbacks etc)?
I don't think I have a strong preference for one over the other as long as the story is good and the flashbacks are worthwhile.

2026-06-07 10:01:02 UTC

#WritersCoffeeClub June 7. Do you avoid expressions, idioms, colloquialisms, or embrace them?
I embrace them but in a specific way; I make up my own for the world and cultures that I've created. It's one of the more enjoyable parts of writing and world-building.

#WritersCoffeeClub May 26. In what ways does your work defy expectation?
I'm still amazed I published a book at all

2026-05-21 10:01:02 UTC

#WordWeavers May 21. How do you make your MC likable or relatable to in the first chapter?
If we're talking the first chapter of the series, I show him trying to steal some food for him and his family and friends when they don't have enough. The next book's first chapter is probably not so relatable or likeable.

2026-05-19 09:30:02 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers May 19. You get locked in Ikea for a week, what will you build?
I'm the guy still trying to figure out the directions when they come rescue me. I seriously am inept at putting together ikea style furniture.

2026-05-15 10:32:48 UTC

#WordWeavers May 15. What type of writing (novels, shorts, poetry, etc) comes more naturally for you?
Novels, definitely. I'm too wordy for most other forms.

2026-05-14 09:00:02 UTC

#WordWeavers May 14. Which of all the characters you’ve ever written are you most proud of?
A parent doesn't choose between their children! I'm proud of all my characters.

#WordWeavers May 9. Are there any unusual societal norms in your world?
Very unusual things like nature being revered and respected. Women being actual equals, there's no division of labor by gender. People sharing food they've grown themselves with their community.

#ScribesAndMakers April 29. Someone else promotion day. Tell us about someone else's work. Let's boost away.
I'll spotlight @nprofile…2dm2 The Night Plummer and the Mockemortician. It's a wonderful fantasy that is very silly in the best way. But it's also very creative and clever and deep. It's worth a read, especially if you're looking for something a little different than the traditional fantasy story. And, if you haven't seen it, it's got a great new cover!

2026-04-28 09:59:07 UTC

#WritersCoffeeClub April 28. How magical is your work?
I classified Shadow of the Elders as low fantasy in that there wasn't a lot of magic in it (until the end) and it takes place in a earth-like secondary world. But the sequel is different and there's a good amount of magic in it. The other stories I'm writing in that world include some magic as well. So I think overall it ranges from a little magical to very magical.

2026-04-21 09:59:00 UTC

#WritersCoffeeClub April 21. What's a (maybe silly) hill you're willing to defend?
I love prologues! Both writing and reading them.
It can expand the story, or foreshadow events that don't occur directly in the plot. You can add POVs or add some important world-building that may set up the story. There's so many fun things to do with them.

2026-04-20 10:37:36 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers April 20. Have you ever read or performed your work in front of an audience

#ScribesAndMakers Feb 23. Reveal your answer to yesterday's poll.
The choices again:
1. But at some point, her legs could not carry her anymore. Whether they gave way or the ground's uneven mud finally caught them, she did not know. But she tripped and fell to the earth. It was hard and cold and wet.
2. His thoughts moved faster. Frantic. Suddenly, an idea overcame him. With shaking hands, he pulled the die hanging from his neck.
3. To be safe, without pain, in the one place no enemy could reach, freed from his memories and promises. He would live forever. All he had to do was let go of his insistence on retaining his painful shell of flesh... all he had to do was forget.
-----
The majority of you got it correct. Choice 1 is mine, from the sequel to Shadow of the Elders, currently under revision. Choice 2 is from Ayrton Silva's Unfortunate. And choice 3 is from L.L. Stephens Sordaneon. Both awesome books!

2026-02-23 12:52:44 UTC

#WordWeavers Feb 23. What word/phrase do you use too much? Has it changed over time?
I overuse filler words like just, but, even, only. The individual words might change as I pay attention to one or the other but I still use them. It's the way I write. Then I worry about it during the revisions.

2026-02-11 12:09:17 UTC

#WordWeavers Feb 11. MC POV: Sit down, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. What do you see in your mind’s eye?

2026-01-24 11:37:06 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 24. What's a work of science fiction that you love? What do you love about it?
I love the book version of the Martian. The hard sci-fi aspects of it are interesting and it balances humor with adventure and tension well. I like Mark, the main character, a lot as well.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 23. If you garden, do you give away anything that you grow? If so, what do you give away the most of?
We do grow a garden in the summer and we give a ton away. We just can't eat all the veggies we grow since they all seem to blossom at the same time. Cherry tomatoes we gave away the most of this past year, probably half of what we grew. We had so many, we made pasta and pizza sauces with them and everything and still couldn't eat them fast enough.

The best is yet to come.

2025-10-12 10:36:41 UTC

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 12. Do you prefer to use real-world settings or to invent new ones?
I like to invent new settings though, I base it strongly off the real world. My favorite worlds are those that feel very much like ours but have a hint of something fantastical. And that's what I try to write.

2025-10-11 10:46:15 UTC

#WordWeavers Oct 11. Tell us about a strained but important relationship one of your characters has.

2025-10-08 10:32:49 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers Oct 5. Do you make your creations available for people to read/view/use? If so, where, and why there? If not, why not?
I do. My books are available at most bookstores. I don't have a particular reason other than wanting to make it available to people who use different storefronts and draft 2 digital makes it pretty easy to do so. I don't make them available for free because I value the labor of creating a book but I keep the price pretty low.

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 5. Have you ever included real-world disproven science in a work?
I guess it depends on how literal we mean by disproven. I write fantasy, so there's a whole lot of things that happen that couldn't happen in the real world. But I don't think people are doing experiments to prove or disprove their existence.

#ScribesAndMakers Oct 2. Are you harder on yourself or others when critiquing creative work? Why do you think that is?
I think I tend to be harder on myself because I have high expectations for my work. I don't think I reach them and so criticism comes easily. I often try to tell myself to be kinder but it's not easy when it's ingrained.

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 2. Do you tend to include prologues? Why?
I included them in my main story books because they are big and epic and the prologue allows me to show some of the background information that the characters aren't necessarily aware of but it's still important to understanding the broader story and context.
I haven't included one in my spin-off because it's a more personal story and I didn't think a prologue fits.

#ScribesAndMakers Oct 1. How are things looking for you creatively this month?
I'm hoping to finish the first draft of this spin-off prequel I've been working on for a while. It'll be close, especially since I seen to be adding more scenes as we get to the end here but I'm hopeful.
Alt: Pigeon?
Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. A classic!

#WordWeavers Sept 29. If you could treat your characters to a meal in our world, what would it be?
I really don't know. I think they would be shocked by a lot of what we eat and it would be too sweet or too rich for them. Just taking them to a supermarket would be mind-blowing. But, since this is all for fun anyway, I'd love to give them some ice cream. Because who doesn't love ice cream

#WritersCoffeeClub Sept 29. Speaking for yourself, what would make a work ‘obscene’?
If a work intentionally promotes ideas and theories that call for harm to or subjugation of real people or peoples, especially those who are marginalized in our society, that would be obscene to me.

#WordWeavers June 20. If you could write a tie-in novel for any movie, tv show or game, what would it be?
Another question with just an innumerable amount of choices. Without having to deal with the toxic parts of their fandoms, I'd love to write in the Star Wars universe. And Dragon Age. And Jurassic Park. And Earthsea. And ATLA. And BioShock....Heck, I've had dreams of trying to write a Slay the Spire tie-in 😂.

#WordWeavers June 19. If you could choose another (living) author to remix your work, who would it be and why?
This is a really hard question but I'd probably go with Joe Abercrombie. I love his worlds and characters so it would be awesome to see what he would do with mine. But maybe Robin Hobb too. Or Ann Leckie. Or George RR Martin. There's just too many to try to choose from.

@nprofile…myfn Ha! I probably should have cut those out for the few who know. But yeah, the WIP is a prequel with Eyvo as the MC.

#ScribesAndMakers June 18. Share pic(s) of something you've created. (Don't forget the alt text.)
Sharing a snippet of what I wrote yesterday from my WIP. Still first draft quality.
