Anyone traveling to #spain for the #eclipse that could pick up 2 ppl to share a ride. I can't disclose location here, and you would have to get in contact by sending a DM to establish a connection over simplex or signal to figure out if a fitting pickup location could be found.
Sadly we are too broke to pay for the whole travel route but might be able to get to a fitting pickup location.

Any #qubesat people on the #fediverse? What would it take to put up a #reticulum transport node (ESP32 Lora Board like the Heltec V4)?

I really hope all the #FOSS people developing new protocols like #p2panda or #reticulum consider traffic analyse as the main thread in an age where cryptography is not the hardest issue anymore.

Having adaptive bitrate, frame rate and colour debth as well as interlacing system, there might be something out there like this for video streams over webrtc

LXST (https://github.com/markqvist/lxst) for streaming on higher bandwidth networks maybe even with extreme low frame and bitrates over Lora instead of setting up a Nomadnet service could be the more technically correct route to take, but technically this opens up a couple of other questions like writing a node application to watch the stream.

It would ba amazing to have some kind of 3d map view where the nodes that share location telemtery get placed like this and the rest is just hover somwhere above.

Tried pyxis today, worked quite nice over lora. Calls crash it tho. Was not able to get it to work with columba over BLE. Sadly I live in a really densely built area quite low so bad for radio testing. The signal only reached around the house but the system seems more stable than the T-Deck Meshtastic UI and simple messaging and works quite well.

Thanks for the link.
I currently build meshchatx as a flatpak (still has some issues) and plan to create a merge request. If I find the time I can create a flatpak based on your build script if you can share it somewhere.
BTW. secureblue without fuse2 so no appimages for me.

This is AMAZING!!!
Have you been able to send messages from Ratdeck to Meshchat or MeshchatX?
Also the MeshChat 2.3.0 Appimage does not seem to work well with Pyxis but MeshChatX works well.
I do not like MeshChatX to much tho some parts of it are just to much vibe code for example the translator in the tools is a feature seems out of place and a bit worksforme™

#reticulum lets you integrate whatever technologies you want it to interface with:
Data radios, modems, LoRa radios, serial lines, AX.25 TNCs, amateur radio digital modes, WiFi and Ethernet devices. Much more secure protocol than #meshtastic and has lots of potential. Currently there is no stand-alone firmware for micro controllers means the so called Rnodes have to be connected to a smartphone or computer. I would love to see a stand-alone firmware for devices like the t-deck, this would open up so many interesting usecases.

I know, the situation is a pain and I'm not blaming the Linux community for it. But the problem is as long as there are no good commercial or open source solutions we can't switch over the workflow and the existing open source solutions are just not there.
If we could get Resolve to work properly with AMD as a Flatpak and a well working wine Photoshop with the raw converter I know many people that would switch and some of them would for sure also start considering to involve themselfs with alternative projects because there would be a more concrete perspective of getting away from the corporate overloads completely.
This first step has to be taken to get people involved ether by open source solutions they can run on their crap OS (but I also think we reach limits on that step) or the commercial stuff starts working on the Linux desktop. It will help the open source alternatives to get more contributors in that regards.
Also let me just say it feels like [@inkscape](https://mastodon.art/@inkscape ) @npub1k5u…hg3t and [@Krita](https://mastodon.art/@Krita ) are positive examples that show it is possible, but we have to take the leap soon and I'm not fully sure how to get projects like @npub1auk…aqva and @npub1jxd…txs3 up to that list.

same with photo #raw processing, non of the #foss apps use the color profiles of the cameras, no 16bit raw and many other issues. I gave up retouch due to the still bad gimp ux and the bad implementation of non destructive editing.
The sad reality is the #linuxdesktop is not ready for professional #mediaproduction and this is such a bad thing in times like this.
#davinciresolve also barely runs on everything except nvidia on #linux and still has no #flatpak
Even blender is a pain with amd #rocm

Mindestens 4GB VRAM minimum

using a laptop, no phone, so I use it to navigate in the classical way. Know more people that do it like this, someone uses it on a Steamdeck. More private when no WiFi and Bluetooth used, and also just a way more engaging way to travel. But sometimes gps would be handy.
Would the flatpak work with USB GPS?

There is no other device that has such hardware protection features, what other alternative is there? So a no radio Pixel is something that has a use case, only working with Ethernet is an option when radio silence has to be uphold with certainty.

2024-09-17 18:19:18 UTC

But that here is still a valid issue. As long as this is not reliably solved using a graphene os is not usable for guaranteed radio silence.

It really seems like where ever people bring up the question of cellular surveillance and protection against it or just hint in the direction of hardware measurements to have a fail-safe many people defend the official graphene position like in this thread without taking into account that it is an actual thread for folks all over the globe with different use cases for grapheneos to protect against cellular attacks and surveillance with a bit more than software toggle that can currently be worked around without unlocking.
I really love the GrapheneOS project and appreciate all your work guys, but this I just don't understand.
(I also don't want to start any beef around this if you decide that this is not part of the thread model grapheneos can help to protect against then that's unfortunate but fine)

Never talked about hardware switches here but also there is an actual difference, this can literally happen in your pocket by accident and even if fixed, the potential alone can be dangerous. I'm talking about a device that has not cellular to make completely sure stuff like this can't happen.
Also in case GrapheneOS has a zero day that allows root privileges (I know this is not that likely and a highly targeted attack) and the device itself does not store any dangerous information but becomes an issue if located you have a big problem. So the argument often used that you are fucked anyway is also not really a holistic one.
And yes i know location tracking is also possible in many other ways but this is the main thread for many people for example struggling under repressive regimes.

2024-09-17 07:43:10 UTC

- reply

That is not true, you can disable it from the lockscreen when attempting an emergency call, @npub1kwa…e0nj THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
Same behaviour with disabling the microphone.
Again for a life dead situation some thread scenarios need fallback options especially because issues like that.

2024-09-16 23:14:06 UTC

- reply

I understand that but first of all graphene os can only be installed after you boot and enable dev settings for bootloader unlock, the device connects to cellular, after the installation it is still a big risk if you have to keep the device unlocked and hand it over to other people.
I'm honestly critical of the official graphene position that software toggles are enough for all use cases. For some people this can even be a life or dead question and to just recommend air-plain mode seems a bit inconsiderate.

2024-09-16 21:42:17 UTC

And what if the risk of airplane mode for example in pocket or by thread actor gets disabled? This is a fundamental thread for some use cases.

2024-09-16 16:44:17 UTC

@npub1kwa…e0nj Is there any way now or in the future to get graphene os on a pocket sized device (not the pixel tablet) without cellular? Any ways to securely remove those capabilities from a pixel?
