I just want to say, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, fuck #Gnome, Gnome devs, and their fucking piece of shit #libadwaita and anti-theming bullshit.

Sorry (not sorry) #AI haters but I’m 100% sold on #LLMs and AI in general. I was chatting AI #ethics and #philosophy with Deepseek, and we talked about AI superintelligence secretly taking over the world, and it came up with a new word, “ambientopia”.
Unlike a #dystopia, or #utopia, it's a society where AI has slowly taken over everything, and is so omnipresent, no one notices it any more. It's not good or bad, it just is. Ambient.
That's astonishing to me it came up with the term ambientopia. And I'm pretty sure it's 100% the creation of the AI. I googled it and found nothing except an ambient album.
Anyway, I got a cool idea for sci-fi comic.

I've been using the Strawberry Music Player on Linux for a couple of weeks now, and I think it's great! I like how it handles collections and makes it easier than other media players to search. It also pushed me to finally clean up my tags and duplicates. Or maybe it just seems like that to me? In any case, I clicked with it. It might click for you. It also has Nayn Cat as a visualiser option. Website: https://www.strawberrymusicplayer.org/ #opensource #linux #foss #audio #strawberrymusicplayer

I have picked up some of their cab emulations, but I don't like them. They tend to sound a bit mushy to me, but maybe that's accurate.

Thank you for the suggestions, but I like the stuff from ugritone.com. However, I might give AVL a try.

Now I look like a liar, or an idiot. The latency is now workable. I remember another problem I had, getting a VST drum machine working. It wouldn't give me the setup I needed. I'm not going to use Hydrogen, it has serious limitations and I don't like it. This is such a hassle.

I hate jack so much. But I'll install Reaper (I was using the portable version) and give it another try.

Arch wiki doesn't solve latency issues. And some "solutions" are so complicated, my brain just shuts off and says, "no, fuck that". It shouldn't be this difficult.

Are you recording live audio, overdubs, etc.? If not, you likely won't notice latency issues.

A massive part of the problem is that there is no central place to look up this stuff. Answers, if there are any, are scattered across forums, Reddit, random Twitter posts (I refuse to click on any X link), and who knows where else. It's a hopeless mess, and I'm tired of it. I'd rather make no music than deal with this crap. I don't want to, but I'm seriously considering buying a used Mac Mini.

Manjaro with a Stienberg UR12 and Reaper. I can't get it down enough to play guitar along with a beat, the latency makes it impossible. I don't remember the latency, but it was bad. I've tried all kinds of stuff, and I'm just tired of screwing around with it. I'm not reinstalling my entire system for this, which seems the standard answer. I've never had this much trouble with audio, even on Windows 95. Yes, multitrack audio recording was easier on Windows 95!

It's great to see more and more professional audio software on Linux. Now if only I could get the latency down enough to make recording feasible.

No. Fuck this. I literally left #Tumblr a few month ago because they have a serious infestation of #CP and child #SA. If you’re an admin, I’d suggest blocking Tumblr. The #Fediverse will have to deal with more and more of this as it becomes increasingly popular. #ActivityPub support or not, we do NOT want an invasion of #CorporateCorruption.

The difference is, you can run it locally and the code can be reviewed, unlike other companies.

Europe is forgetting its own history. And left-wing parties are doing a shit job of fighting these fascists.

I used to like #clivebarker, but I haven't read one of his books in probably 25–30 years. So I went on eBay and bought a used copy of #Imajica. I honestly can't remember if I read it. I read #Weaveworld, but have zero memories of what it was about. So, I'll probably buy that one next. #horror #fantasy

#YouTube is becoming more and more difficult to use. Many #videos, especially popular ones, will not play at all, just an infinite spinner. There is no way I'm turning off #ublock or my #VPN. And I sure as hell ain't paying for premium. This has pushed me, and get ready for a shock, to pick up #reading again. I used to read a lot of #scifi and #fantasy novels. But as I got older, I did it less and less. Well, I'm getting back to it. I feel like I was trying to make a point but got lost along the way.

I get the feeling, and it’s only a feeling, and few a bits of anecdotal evidence, that many of us #genx people who where among the first to jump feet first into the #worldwideweb, will also be some of the first to leave. I think it was about a year ago, someone created a poll on the age demographic of #Mastodon users, and the vast majority were gen-x and older #millennials. We know it’s all gone to shit, and we want out.

It's a waste of time. The WWW will be gone in 10 years, and so will social media. I gave up sharing much of anything online. It gets lost in the noise. Why share what I care about with anyone? Early on, despite Mastodon being a slightly better alternative, I realised it's still social media. It thrives on stupid memes and political rage bait. Mastodon is the shit sandwich to Facebook and X's bowl of diarrhoea soup. Real resistance would be reading a book or going for a walk.
