The fact that you think Haiti is a failed state and yet know as little as possible about how it got that way is an indictment on your country and its historical narrative.
The US was one of the countries most invested in ensuring the failure of the Haitian state from the very beginning—they still had slaves. They didn't want Haiti to become a beacon of hope.
The Haitians won over of the biggest underdog wars in modern history and were immediately pressured by the US and other White countries to pay reparations to the French.
Reparations. To their former masters. For the theft of their own bodies.
Haiti was immediately cut off economically at the knees. There is a long history of the US interfering with Haitian affairs ever since. When we say Black people can do anything, Haiti should be example number 1: because when we do amazing things, there's always White people who want to stop us.

Haiti and Haitians have been and are being punished for staging a successful Black slave revolt against rich White masters.

This is starting to make sense to me. I watched a tech review yesterday where the guy said that it feels like only tech reviewers want small phones.

2025-03-22 11:07:43 UTC

do people not want phones that are light and fit in their hands anymore? or are most people using their phones as they primary digital device?

Real talk: Google, Meta, X and Amazon have been stifling innovation in the tech space, for decades at this point, by eliminating competition via buying or burying them. They're at the top of the pile not because they're the best companies, but because they're the most ruthless.

Billionaires don't deserve to exist because the biggest one is doing straight supervillain shit and nooooone of the other ones are lifting a finger to stop him.

I haven't lived in the United States for a long damn time, but I'm still a goddamned American, and I still want to see the people gutting my country to pay.

What is the consequence for unbridled rage?
Rage comes for you. Your enemies from without start working together. Your enemies from within suddenly have nothing to lose anymore and lose their fear of you.
You have broken the social contract, and there's a price to pay.
A certain portion of the American people has been, for hundreds of years, under a spell. It's a spell cast by wealthy land owners since plantation times that you too will become rich and powerful so long as you do the bidding of the rich and powerful.
So long as hate the rich man's enemy and hurt the rich man's enemy, you will be the rich man's friend.
And he will make you rich, too.
Some of you are still waiting. Some of you are conscious enough to know you're going to be waiting forever.
I'm starting to think that's the true source of your anger. You're never going to be rich, no matter what the rich man tells you. You get angry at the rest of us because he's been making a fool out of you. For centuries.

The Americans that live vicariously through Trump's power and Trump's anger are happy for the suffering of trans people, happy for the immigrants (and even Natives) who are being harassed by immigration officers, happy that women don't truly have a say in what they do with their bodies.
And they're happy when any attempt at undoing the effects of centuries of systemic inequality she discrimination against everyone who is not White and cisgender Male.
Their God smash, smash, smashes their enemies. He starts fights with his neighbors. He starts fights with his citizens.
And they love it. Until the chickens inevitably come home to roost.
We live in a world of consequences. Me, you, and even the god-damned president of the United States.

I've been thinking about this for a while. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the US is the only country with mean people—but it feels like the only country that's really *proud* of how mean it can be, whose people take pride in the suffering of their own countrymen.
In no moral, rational person's imagination could Donald Trump become the president of the country—unless you really understand how many mean and angry Americans there are, and then it makes perfect sense.
He is what they want their God to be.
He is all powerful. He is merciless. He is not less angry after gaining power, he's angrier than he ever was. (An assassin barely missed a headshot and nipped Trump's ear. And his response, his immediate, unplanned, unrehearsed response was to raise his fist in the air and yell.)

Being mean as a cultural characteristic is a uniquely American trait.

The room is spinning, in a good way, I think :)

It's okay to be angry. Just don't let it consume you.

"NFT" didn't have any hooks in our cultural consciousness, so that's why when people started kicking the tires, the hype quickly died down.
"AI", on the other hand, is something we've been promised (and warned about) for decades. Also, the term is being misapplied to all sorts of commercial products, some of them that existed before the ChatGPT hype which is confusing the uninformed person because since now "AI" means whatever the company says it is, they can over-promise and under-deliver, as long as they deliver *something* sometimes.

All you have to do is *be* *Black* *online*.
That's it.
That's all it takes to make a racist angry.
No—that is not hyperbole.
And if you don't get it, it shows.

I think people don't really understand how finishing your university education at the same time a major worldwide financial disaster is beginning can destabilize your entire life.
Time doesn't stand still. You have to find ways to survive. And even after the worst of the financial crisis' effects pass, the number of years you spend on a divergent path may be the same or more than the number of years you were preparing for the future.

Passively watching the Olympics and it just occurred to me how there's so much variation in body types. Literally the most athletic people in the world and there's a world of difference among them.
Almost as though there weren't one ideal body type...

If UBI was a thing, far from having no motivation and doing nothing, I would be so productive that people would be telling me to take a break.
The difference is I would (have the time and freedom to) be doing the things I *want* to be doing.
