Every time I see the guillotine mentioned as a tool that might come in handy again I'm reminded that… you guessed it… its actual history is a bit embellished. It solved one problem: efficient, uniform judicial killing, so noblemen (only ~15%) no longer got the sword while peasants the wheel.
Not-so-fun fact: France used it until 1977. It remained a legal option until 1981.

Richtig gut besetzte Rollen die so geschrieben sind, dass es die Zuschauer nicht durch offensichtliches Erklären beleidigt, sondern ihnen zutraut mitzudenken.

@nprofile…qa04 @nprofile…av2g Erster Reflex: "was? Voyager?!" Aber ja… DS9 geht glaube ich erst so ab "älter", von der Tiefe her, und TNG ist inzwischen "dated", was die Sehgewohnheiten angeht. Voyager fand ich immer etwas unterkomplex und die Charaktere nicht so gut gecasted wie bei TNG oder DS9, aber vielleicht ist das gerade die Stärke an der Stelle. Wenn man Voyager geguckt und für gut befunden hat, kann man DS9 und TNG gucken, wenn man älter ist, und die Komplexität besser wertschätzen kann.

High-compression, air-cooled, often turbocharged piston based aero-engines are pretty happy with 100LL. Nothing else delivers that octane at the same weight, volatility and price.

@nprofile…lw2w I found it pretty helpful for openscad. It feels like having to describe geometry to a blind person, but once you get the hang of it and understand how to phrase your ideas unambiguously it’s a tremendous help to design more complex shapes. Where it really shines though is refactoring and (re-)parametrizing larger code blocks.

@nprofile…600e Really love how they now integrate cameras into many payloads to actually see the satellite after it is deployed. What also amazes me about those large mesh antenna structures… You can not unfurl them on the ground without a support structure. They break because they are not capable of supporting themselves in earth gravity.

@nprofile…tk8a I feel like the reverse is already somewhat working. German news items making it into adjacent EU countries’ news. But from a German perspective there is a lack of feeling that we’re in this together. That other european areas and cultures are a part of our collective narrative. For the next decade, I hope for a better feeling of togetherness - for we will have to rely on that what unites us in order to master the challenges ahead.

- but there’s still room for more lively cultural exchange. In the news for example I’d like to be more informed about what happens in France, in Spain, in Italy, not only regarding foreign relations topics or once every few years when there’s a major voting day. Day to day stuff. Treat it like was an adjacent region. Stuff that happens there is it as interesting as stuff that happens in Bavaria or Schleswig-Holstein.

Heute wars dann so weit… Mastodon hat twixer uberholt. Hab unterwegs ne Fahrraddemo gesehen und erst dort gesucht, aber nix gefunden - hier dann auf Anhieb. Das Fediverse ist wirklich mittlerweile zu einer wundervollen Bubble aus Bubbles geworden, und die Fahrradbubble ist robuster Bestandteil davon. Nice! 👌
